How to Replace the Screen on a PSP (1000 Model)

Having now successfully restored my busted up PSP, here is a video showing you how to replace the screen on a PSP 1000 model. It's pretty straightforward and doesn't require any soldering, but there are some delicate connections inside the PSP so make sure you go slowly and you should be fine.

Nice tutorial! I used to do replacement screen and umd disc drive a lot and selling back on eBay way back! Not that hard to do when you have the right tools! Great video and keep up the good work!

I changed my screen on PSP back in 2019 and I felt like a god cause I never really fixed anything (successfully) before lol.

Thanks for your video, I was able to fix my screen "issue". My PSP 1001 had a speck of dust between the LCD and the shell for ages (since someone gifted it to me in 2009!). I was a child, and thought it was a crack inside lmao.

Was it the optical drives I'm guessing?

@@YourPlayer2 repaired the optical drive on the ps2 and on the dreamcast I had to fix the controller ports. I also installed a 120gb ssd in ps2.

I see so many ads for these screens and they always mention shorting some pins. I noticed you didn't solder anything. How would we know whether to solder or not solder these pins? Also, does the clear plastic screen come off the black shell easily or is that glued on ?

No soldering needed! If there were I wouldn’t have done it as I’m not that great with a soldering iron just yet. And yup, comes off fairly easily just go slow!

I accidentally broke the small plastic part that holds the smaller cable of the screen in place (5:32), I put the cable into the port pretty good and it probably won't come out unless I drop it or something but out of curiosity do you know what is that small cable responsible for? I want to see if its something that I can live without I can use a small bit of duck tape on it to hold it in place if it comes to it but I really don't want to open it again, the screws are very small and hard to put back in place + my hands shake a bit which is not helpful in this situation

I'm pretty good at fixing and rebuilding PSPs 1000 models. I bought one with a broken screen put in one of my test screens in and it works but this is where it gets weird. I bought new screens and installed one and it doesn't work the screens I bought are good I did I tested them.

That IS odd! Not even sure how I'd start troubleshooting that if you've already isolated it to the system itself and not the screens?

On 4:40 I can't pry the bottom left and bottom right but I was able to pry the top left and right using a 2mm Flathead.

I used a REALLY tiny screwdriver for it personally but it can definitely be stubborn!

Tried it today only a quater of the screen showes picture the rest was all grey and ribbon colours. Il send screen back and get replacement and try again

I just ordered the same screen.. everything is plugged in correctly but when i power on the psp, it's dark. I can see it when i shine a light on it.. any ideas of what i did wrong??

Hmm, I didn't encounter that myself, but for starters I'd double check the ribbon connection to make sure it's secure. It may just be a defective unit as well!

I have a psp with a messed up screen and a missing a back plate for the battery, I bought a battery and a charger brand new not to long ago

No idea! All I know is the screen I purchased for this one only needed the ribbon connection to be in place :)

It looks like this replacement is identical to the original blurry PSP-1000 screen. The soldering is needed for IPS replacements, because otherwise the graphics won't fit on the screen properly.

Tnx believe it or not but i squashed a bug in between my casing and screen. Now over been able to remove the little shit and enjoy my psp onze again.
