HOW TO: Replace the serpentine belt on a 2009 BMW 128i

Hello again, back at it with another DIY. This one is rated at "one beer and no bathroom brakes" of difficulty. Belt replacement is just good common sense maintenance and even if you are not mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself by following my instructions. Happy wrenching!

I changed the oil filter housing gasket a while back, not too hard of a job at all.

thank bro... so im going to need a full set or toro sockets... im also replacing the oil filter gaskets... what brand torks socket and bits do you recomend..

For torx sockets I get mine at Harbor Freight. They are not a specialty tool so no need to overpay

@@ARPerez I just replace the belt...clean up as much oil and dirt as I could.. ran the engine for a few minutes but I saw no leaks... I also change the oil filter. and gaskets.. on the oil cap. there was this Cooper ring I dint know where it goes... havent drive the car but... I hope I dont have to do the oil filter gasket... and remove that intake manifold....

I replaced the belt & afterwards the car started surging & running rough. I tripled check everything was properly seated & even reseated a few times but the issue persists. Any thoughts?

Make sure it's the correct belt size.... outside of that the only thing I can think of is vaccum leak somewhere. I know it sounds far fetched but I've done it by accident many times

@@ARPerez Back story, my brother bought a 128i 2011 with 70k miles,. the belt was beginning to fray, but the owner included a replacement belt & oil change kit. I also replaced the oil the same time that I replaced the belt, so now don't know which rabbit hole to go down- confirmed that the belt was correct size. When I drained the oil it did look really dirty & over due for a change. Ran a scan & it's throwing vanos related codes. Do you think doing a fresh oil change when it's been overdo could have loosend up debree & clogged the soleniod sensors/ screener, or do you think it could still be belt/tensioner related?
