On jobs like these, I'd recommend either magnetic sockets or adding painter tape to the end of the socket. Makes it a really tight fit. This is a good video. I'll be needing to do this on my xterra & dads pathfinder

Great Video, I have to replace the Tensioner, Fan Clutch and That big bracket you pulled out with Fan Clutch and Tensioner , which is the pulley for the Fan Clutch all at once. I though I have to do them one by one, but seeing it all come out in one shot, it's going to be easy. No water Pump Changing for me at this time. If I ever have to do It, I'll be sure to put a thick rag in the water pump area where the screws can fall into the engine. This way I won't have that huge headache of having to take out that whole big front Giant plate because I dropped a screw in it 🤦🏼‍♂️ Thanks again, you have made a great video and very clear on instructions. 👍👊

thanks for your comment, yes removing it all at once is faster n easier, about water pump you have to do what ever works best for you, i lose the bolts slowly n grab them with my bare fingers at the same time so i can feel them but there is always a risk of dropping the bolts inside the engine because of the design. so for any one who is going to do it please do it carefully, God bless you.

It was awesome to see you can pull the whole fan clutch out like that cause I gotta change the pump and clutch. Super easy to change the clutch with that out like that

Thank you so much for making this video. Your tips saved me a bunch of time. I just finished this job on my 2003 Pathfinder with the 3.5L. It is a bit easier as it doesn’t have the idler pulleys or the bridge for the fan to remove first. Also, it took longer to drain the coolant and clean the surfaces of the covers than it did to actually remove the timing chain tensioner and water pump.

Suggesting to put a tape on the bolt to help keep in place. Some other guy said to put a piece of cloth in there to help so that the bolt won't fall in.

I changed the Water Pump on my Pathfinder by removing the small access cover, then turning the engine backwards just a touch to put slack in the chain, then remove the bolts and pull the pump. I didnt bother my Tensioner.

So just counter clockwise and you'll get enough slack?

@@liberatorofminds.3159no do clockwise so bolt doesn’t loosen up. It will be hard but just do it clockwise till you get slack and don’t touch the tensioner.

My 2006 Nisssn Pathfinder SE V6 has 216,982 miles in the odometer. Is that usually the end of the lifetime for the original water pump and timing chain? One auto shop told me that some of these have both a regular water pump and a electrical one. They also told me that the labor for the timing chain would be the most expensive in case that needs replacing.

yes some have the electric auxiliary water pump but it is different than the regular water pump, I hope is not the end of it so you can drive the truck with out replacing timing c and water p

My 2005 pathfinder water pump mounting bult hole stripped. can I leave it out or will the hole leak coolant does anyone know ?

most likely it is going to leak, maybe you can redo the thread or as a last resort you can try some silicon to reenforce the gasket in the water pump, good luck and be bless.

I dont blame you for not wanting to do that job there is always a risk, no you dont have to do any thing else except put every thing back, just carefully so nothing goes inside the engine.

tight some zid ties or some thing similar to the gear n tight some kind of stick to the zip ties n pull it out, use WD-40. I did that once n it worked but I did not make videos at that time yet.

@@javiergarcia1323 on this vehicle, normally in the rear of the engine by the a/c compressor, it is not easy to see it, any way u realize when you loosing antifreeze.

To get the slack on the water pump side after removing the tensioner do you turn clockwise or counter?

always clockwise or to the right and you get the slack before removing the tensioner , if you are going to replace the tensioner then remove it other wise you dont even have to remove it to get the water pump out of there, hope this helps.

@@liberatorofminds.3159 once you remove the tensioner, the slack has to be ready on the water p, after removing the tensioner dont rotate the engine any more because the slack is there already, but any rotation is only clockwise not counter, if you did not get enough slack to get the water p out that means you took out the tensionner too soon, when you rotating the engine a certain point you will see enough slack then you relize it is time to remove the water p, always clockwise.

I am also struggling to get pump out. And I have removed the tensioner. I’m going to try to put everything back in place and turn clock wise to get enough slack. The pump is lose in housing. But not enough chain clearance. My biggest concern is it skipping timing. Your video has been helpful however I think I followed a step wrong. Any feed back is greatly appreciated @JMAutoRepairnum1

hey Fernando thank you for your comment, I want to apologize with and other people who need to know the size of the bolts unfortunately dont remember but if you r replacing the water p just go to any hardware store with the new water p so they can much the thread and you are good to go. That's a bad engine design, water pump inside with the timing chain that's a recipe for a catastrophe. Change my mind of getting a Xterra.
