Just had the same issue on my VW Jetta 2012. VW dealer asked $2k + tax...I drove with the squeaky belt noise. got lucky to make it home. Car's value is like $4k now lol.

Sincerely wish this was a Volkswagen Beetle replacement. Mine went out today and I have all the parts. I just have no idea how to install. Just afraid I might make the car explode. You make it look super easy. Thanks for the content! Maybe I’ll get the nerve to do it.

I’m not sure exactly what engine the beetle has but maybe it’s a similar process with both being VW. Good luck with your repairs

it should be a similar process. i haven’t changed mine yet, but there are a ton of videos out there on beetle repairs/maintenance.

If you have a 2.0 Beetle, the process should be identical. In fact I've had to watch or read Beetle part replacement tutorials despite having a Jetta. For me that even applies for my 5 speed manual transmission. Things only become different when talking about the radiator, heater core or perhaps a door lock(sort of). VW like Toyota built "parts bin" type cars sharing a lot of parts between different models thankfully as they keep much information guarded down to not even having a fuse diagram. 😑

Damn this guys responded to everyone, trying it out rn and the bottom doesn’t want to come out, not sure if I just need to use a lot more force or something’s still in it? 2.0 engine base model Jetta 2015

Mine was actually really annoying trying to get out. I used a soft rubber mallet as to not damage anything an a small pry bar 😂 It’s a tight fit then the dirt and grime in addition to the heat over time caused it to get super snug

@@MTParadise I finally got it out with a much bigger pry bar and a mallet as well all the way at the bottom lol but now the alternator I got from auto done doesn’t fit🤦 little adjustments and I’ll get it in, where the bolts go there’s like a sleeve that allows you to thread the bolts through, this one came with both sleeves too far in, should be one slid in more and the other slid out more

You should add some links for the belt. It's very hard to find the replacement at the local auto places. Dealer has them for about 100. Oriellys is the only place that has them for 73 bucks plus tax. I believe Amazon has them for around 40.

@@MTParadise Yah you do, sorry. I was about to edit my response actually. I wrote this 3/4 through the video. That's what I get for not waiting until the video was done. Putting the serpentine belt on right now in the pitch black darkness of far West Phoenix, AZ. Haven't had any scorpions climb up my legs yet as I continue to scream in vain at this belt. Not a great time to have bigger arms and hands. 😆 In any case, I'm appreciative of the video. I love my car, its been fairly reliable up to 200k so far... I'm only replacing the original alternator because of the pulley. My only complaint with these cars is how hard it is to find parts, guides or videos. VW wasn't even nice enough to put a fuse diagram on the panel covers. 😒

Hello I have the same car and it was making a metal on metal sound under the hood ( not the brakes ) almost like taking a tin can across a fence sound before it stalled in park and won’t start back up. Battery’s good spark plugs good but have had some electrical issues. Could it be the alternator has gone bad? Would it make a noise on its way out?

I may be mistaken, but why does the serpentine belt look upside down?

It’s 2 sided. Most are smooth on one side and have the grooves on the other but this have the grooves on both sides

Hey man, my car idled rough today a stop light. Then the RPMs dropped below 800 and the car shut off. But before the car shut off the Battery light came on. Would this be the Alternator? After a few tries the car started right back up and now works? Not sure what to do

That either sounds like a bad battery or it could be the alternator

It might. If the engine looks just like mine, then it will. I know some parts are shared across the board but I’m not completely sure

The dealership would be overpriced so Napa but I actually got them off Amazon and they worked just fine

I have a 2014 jetta 1.8 liters turbo, every place that I look for the serpentine belt pop up with just the one sided serpentine belt and not the dual sided…

Yeah I had a hard time finding this one but the version I have doesn’t have a turbo so it might have been another version. I do know the guy at o Riley said the first half of 2014 used a different belt

Can anyone help diagnose a problem I have with my 2013 VW Jetta 2.5 SE. The car was sitting for 4 months at a body shop and when I picked it up from there, I turned it on and after driving half a mile, I could not accelerate, all my dashboard lights came on and the car died and would not turn on. I replaced the alternator (twice) and battery and I am still having the same problem. The mechanic is saying it could be the alternator fuse. I bought one and waiting on it to arrive. Does anyone know whether it could be the fuse or could it be something else?

That’s really weird. Maybe fuel pump. It sounds like it’s not getting power or maybe fuel

Mine was a bit tight but with a rubber mallet, I was able to gradually get it in place

13mm wrench is too small for 2013 tensioner. Found out after I specifically bought that wrench and not a pack 🖕
