I don't know if you'll answer this question due to the fact that this video was a year ago LOL. But is there anyway that you could tell me if my 2004 Volkswagen golf 2.0 MK4 model subframe... Will fit on my 2005 Volkswagen golf GTI 1.8?

When I removed my subframe I put marks around where it was originally located to help with getting it lined up as close to how it was before removal, also i fitted solid bush kit to the subframe, a lot of people don't realise that a lot of steering/handling issues come from those subframe bushes being worn.

Thank you guys so much for uploading this. Used your vid to get the subframe off my R to gain access to the front flex plate for the prop shaft. One thing I'm not sure was mentioned is that if the car has a sway bar the bolts have to be removed as well. And if anyone doesn't have helping hands, a jack to support the subframe helps a ton. Thanks again, guys. Very informative video.

Wonderful video; it saved me a LOT of time. I only wish I had paid more attention at the 10 minute mark. My repair was for a loose weld nut inside the frame tube under the floor. Luckily VW anticipated a need to access that nut plate. Sadly the access hole isn't big enough to remove the nut plate, but I was able to force the nut down flat to the frame rail for re-welding the nut after drilling a few holes in the rail for more rosette welds. (My welds were ugly, but it just needs to prevent the nut from turning during tightening.) My big mistake was in refitting new bolts with Loctite and being so excited that all the bolts lined up that I tightened them before locating the steering rack. Since bolts are torque-to-yield and shouldn't be reused i just tried to drive the rack into place with a big hammer and drift punch. I got the rack lined up, but it took forever.

Thanks for the upload, almost done replacing a subframe on a mk4. It was however way, way more corroded and broken. Snapped two bolts despite penetrant oil and heat. One thing of note, the subframe bolts should probably be replaced, or the risk of them snapping during driving, according to another source.

DnB-Merchant soak them with PB blaster and get a long breaker bar. thise bolts are hard to break so youll be fine. The only one i am afraid of is the sway bar end link bolt. those tend to strip a lot.

PincheAl, getting the alignment done after replacing the subframe was emphasized in the video. I understand that an alignment is needed even if the balljoints and control arms are removed, and that during the alignment process, the plate that the three balljoint bolts screw into, are adjusted to get a proper alignment. I'd also like to understand if there is an alignment procedure specifically for the subframe itself on a VW MKIV GTI/Jetta. My guess is that no, there is not alignment for the subframe because the four mounting bolts for the subframe, secure it in a very specific position. However, I don't want to make any assumptions. Please let me know if there is or is not an alignment procedure for the subframe specifically. Also, thank you for making this video. I gave it a thumbs up.
@PincheALsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Sunframe does not have an alignment option however it does have some minor room for adjustment but it's just for getting the bolts in place.
@RedondoBeach23 жыл бұрын
@@PincheALsGarage One more question. I'm only considering removal of the subframe if either of the nut plates that are welded inside the subframe and used to secures the control arms to the subframe, brake from their spotweld, resulting in the need to cut through the subframe just to remove the bolt from the nut plate. If that happens, I'll end up replacing the subframe too. And if that happens, the other thing I'll want to do is remove the exhaust pipe in order to get access to the shift linkage for the stick shifter directly above the exhaust pipe in order to replace all of the old bushings which I believe are plastic or some other softer-than-metal material. I understand that if the stick shift bushings degrade enough over time, they could break and cause serious issues with shifting gears. If I dig this deep into the car, do you have advice on getting the job done successfully and as fast as possible? Are there any special tools that you're aware of that I should have on hand? Other than the exhaust pipe and the shift linkage parts that would need to be replaced, are there other parts you can think of that I should add to the list of parts I should have on hand? Finally, would you recommend a short shifter or is it best to use OEM parts and keep the original shifter? I'll talk to a muffler shop about the exhaust pipe before removing it myself in order to facilitate maintenance of the shift linkage, After I repace the linkage, I'll have to flatbed the car to a muffler shop and hire them to install a new one. If you have any insight and advice based on what I described, and your experience, I value your perspective. Thanks buddy. I need this to go well and hope to meet up with you at a VW gathering in SoCal at some point.
@PincheALsGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@RedondoBeach2 I have a full DIY for the rebuilding of the shift linkage. We did a short shifter as well and i don't suggest it makes the shifting really hard to find gears. I highly suggest going to dieslegeek.com for all your bushing for rebuilding the shift box and also their short shifter that goes on the transmission VS in shift box one. The job is very ez and you only need basic hand tools plus Torx set.
