The Calculator Guide I reset it a bit nervously because it was a bit of a pain downloading Python. It eventually just worked and downloaded. I guess it would be under OS reset if it got rid of it. You never know though.

Hi this might be a stupid question but I really need confirmation- this calculator is allowed on the ACT right? I don’t have to delete any of the calculators functions that were already there or anything? ( I never downloaded any programs or what not )

It is allowed and, as you have stated of course, you can't have any third party applications or anything. You must have no stored data such as text files either (so may need to be reset). When you buy the calculator there is a little sticker in the bottom left which shows all the qualifications, including ACT that it is approved for. There is an exam mode available on the calculator, but to my knowledge this doesn't have to be applied during an ACT test. It's only calculators that do symbolic algebraic manipulation or CAS that are not allowed.

is it possible to undo such action? For example i have some nice math pics on my calculator and be for my exam the bad math teachers want to reset my mass-storage after they done that all the pics are gone :( and im f****

Not with a reset but there is an examination mode. It restricts access to certain modes and maybe restricts access to your files. Check that out and see if that works. If not, I think you can plug you calculator in to a computer and transfer them to the computer, then back again afterwards. Don’t ask me how though.

Yes it is still not compulsory. However, as a candidate, it is your responsibility to ensure no stored data is accessible during the exam. An easy way to do this without deleting and stored data is to use the exam mode.

Hi can u help me please , i have a problem in my fx-cg50 i reset my calculator by choosing initialize all so all my storge memory have no data when i enter memory and the Periodic table disappeared because there is no data in the calculator, i want to get back my storge memory files and the periodic table and the another files in th main data.

The stored files may be gone, but you can reload the add ons which should include the periodic table…. Hopefully

By pressing the executing button on the graphical calculator to draw a graph... It is showing "invalid setting" ....how to rectify it... Waiting for yur reply

Not sure. It could e that the graph you are trying to draw has the wrong variable (such as theta when it is an y and x graph). Best advice is try the reset and then try again. If not you will have to be more specific about the graph you want as there could be a range of different causes.

If you are talking about the physium app then you may need to reinstall this. It is an add in app you can download from the Casio education website.

Would it not be far better to use Exam Mode? For if students follow your advice, they will lose (from Main Memory) all their programs and spreadsheets, and (from Storage Memory) all their add-ins like Physium and Geometry, all the images used in Picture Plot, and all their e-activities. They could of course copy all this data out to an external device and then reupload it after the exam, but that's a lot of effort.

Don’t know. I am just following advice from Casio and teachers on Twitter. I think they need to select the Add in one for Physium and stuff to be removed as I tried it on mine and they are still there. I guess the choice is theirs! I shall pin a comment suggesting they back up before.

@@TheCalculatorGuide It seems to me that the new Exam Mode makes the old advice not just redundant but positively misguided. For Exam Mode temporarily renders one's data inaccessible rather than destroying it, and the only things locked out are addins (including Conversion), eActivities, programs (including Python), and vector calculations. Everything else is there, including spreadsheet mode. It also makes the invigilator's job easy, for he can immediately see whether the light green surround is on or not. The only thing I don't like about it is the blinking R in the top right of the status bar. Admittedly it slows down a little after 15 minutes, but I see it as distracting and unnecessary. Casio don't explain its purpose, nor even what the R stands for!

Yes I always thought that, so previously I advised to use exam mode, but it seems the advice is now to reset unless it’s for qualifications such as the IB. I wonder why vectors is locked out...that would be potentially useful at A-level maths and certainly at Further maths.

@@TheCalculatorGuide Yes, I agree, it's a shame to lose the vector operations. They're still visible, mind you, and they can be used right up to the point when you press Exe, but then you're presented with an Examination Mode warning! Perhaps these functions are still too new to have secured exam clearance yet. As for the Reset vs Exam Mode choices, whose advice are you quoting? for I'm not aware that the UK exam boards have ever voiced an opinion on this . In fact (even though they don't say this) I suspect they'd be content if students did neither, as long as they don't actually make use of any stored formulae or programs during the exam itself. They certainly don't appear to be very urgent in impressing upon invigilators the need to ensure their rules aren't broken. In fact my students have NEVER reported any calculator checks being made on them, and I've been using the CG20/50 with them for many years now. But perhaps things will change a little now that Pearson is putting its weight behind the Casio CG50 and more and more teachers learn how to create programs, eActivities, and spreadsheet models for their students.
