Nice job. I just did my '67 Corvair gas tank with Red Kote, doing much of what you did using 2 gallons of EvapoRust instead of muriatic acid. That flash rust is a huge problem, you gotta work fast.

Careful with the acid which can etch your concrete, and also careful to get the rusty metal off your concrete too. If you leave rust pieces on your concrete it can stain the concrete for many months

I'm about to do my 240Z fuel tank. I'm glad you reminded me to use cheap muriatic acid instead of the more expensive POR-15 etching stuff. I use muriatic acid quite often on car parts and whatever. It doesn't mess around! It's also toxic as hell and even fumes in a closed garage will rust everything in your garage. Don't do that. Yes, baking soda is very important to neutralize the toxic beast. For degreaser I'm going to use quarts of alcohol that I have a case of following Covid-19. Alcohol is quite toxic and also mixes with water. (Alcohol is what i call a B-component. If A and C don't mix, like water and laquer thinner, use a B-component that mixes with both A and C.) I have used many POR-15 paints in past years and nothing is better.

How well will this work with a plastic surge tank thing on the inside of tank?

What would be an easy way to do the ratio of the baking soda do you put that in the tank right away or just before you dump it out?

I believe if you used the Por15 prep, it destroys the surface rust and etches the tank for a better seal? How well has it held up for you ? Also how long did you use the heat gun on the tank to dry it properly?>

How big was the tank? I have a 32 oz bottle and a 20 gallon tank. I dont want to waste a bunch.

Nice job getting rid of the rust but you did too good a job and wasted some acid because flash rust is good for por 15 to stick to the metal better you didn’t have to go through all that, Por 15 will encapsulate the rust

You need to put some marbles,or some nuts in the tank?if you do this again,also use some blow up plumbers plugs to seal the openings.

Dang that tank sealer is pricey.

do you know why you have a big gas tank. I had a fj60 they will put a boat up a tree but will run out of gas half way up
