Thanks for the video. Would the Trex tape stick to joists that were treated with a wood protector? Was thinking about painting the tops of the joists and then adding the tape as a belt and suspenders act to preserve the joists. Just wondering if it would stick to it.

Everyone talks about how hot composite can be... I get it however, My driveway is chip and tar and you couldnt fathom walking barefoot on it or God forbid asphalt on a hot day anyway. Its really just about training yourself to wear flip flops at all times and kick them off before you walk inside.Also , I dont wear shoes in my home because of dirt so sandals/flip flops are good practice anyway so you dont drag shit in your house.LEAVE YOUR SHOES AND SANDALS AT THE DOOR.

I am resurfacing my deck. I used 2x10x16's for my joists. On the top of a couple joists the first 1/2" feels soft where the rest of the joist feels solid. And the soft spot is not the full 16', just a few feet here and there. Would you sister a board to the 2x10 and if so what dimension board would you use and would you sister the entire joist and use the sister as the anchor for the entire joist? Appreciate the help!

Hi Steve. Thank you so much for reaching out to Trex with your substructure concern. We would recommend a structural professional evaluate the soft spots, as this concern may effect local code regulations. They would be able to determine the proper way to support the joist with any additional joists and/or recommendations. The only recommendation we would be able to provide to eliminate the soft spot, is to replace the joist with a new one. If you do have additional questions or concerns, please let us know. Someone from our Customer Care Team will be more than happy to assist. Kind Regards. -Trex Customer Care 800-289-8739 | customercare@trex.com

I'm no pro. I would just use the sealer tape on the whole joist, to prevent future rot, then install the new planking. Let the next guy worry about the soft spots.
@jayralston2305
@jayralston2305 Жыл бұрын
it depends on if the joists are rotted or not , I would not sister a board along side if it is and I myself puts joist spacing at 12 inches on center on composite decking . it might take a little longer and a little bit more money but a much better deck , the days of using old growth redwood are over and the composite decking will bend in heat but a very good material to use if you got the money a 16' board will cost you up wards to 100 dollars a piece but no maintenance like other materials

Other videos suggest not to completely tighten the fastener until the next board has been added. Its suppose to make the fit easier and better. Yes? No?

I followed you example of laying out a straight edge to cut the ends. Now one of the screws has stripped out and another broke while trying to remove it. How am I supposed to repair the one that broke off and How can I remove the one that stripped out? My deck looks great except for these two items that now make it look horrible because I followed this example. It was much easier to free hand it
@alc2216
@alc2216 Жыл бұрын
Hi, A few options come to mind. 1.Depending on the screw head that is stripped, you could use a screw extractor bit to remove the stripped screw. 2. carefully use a drill to drill off the screw head then slide up the board up and then manually pull out screw. Reinstall the board with new screws. 3. If you have extra boards, just pry out the board and install a new one.

Thanks for reaching out George! When a plug style fastening system is purchased, the system will include a countersinking tool that sets the screw at the correct depth. We have 3 approved plug systems that can be used with our Select and Transcend decking. Hello. Thank you so much for reaching out to Trex and your interest in our Trex products. You may install Trex material on an existing substructure. We would ask to reach out to your local code official confirming any local codes requirements. Additionally, we do have recommendations regarding specific joist spans for installation of Trex decking material. Please visit our Resource Center to source our Installation Guide for these recommendations. www.trex.com/customer-support/trex-owners/downloads/ Please feel free to reach back out to us with any additional questions. Hi there, thank you so much for reaching out to us today! Great question, you can purchase the Pro Plug System from DIY Home Center or Decks Direct. Trex does not make the plug system, it is made by Cortex or Starborn Industries. Here is a link to purchase them in the colors we offer: www.decksdirect.com/collated-cortex-plugs-for-trex-decking.html REMEMBER... the Plug System can NOT be used with Enhance deck boards due to the scalloped profile. We hope this helps and please give us a call at 800-289-8739 if you have any additional questions. -Trex Customer Care

Hello! Yes, Trex decking can be removed if necessary. It's especially simple when using our Universal Hidden Fasteners. You could back out the screw in the fastener, slide all fasteners to one end of a deck board, and pry that board up. If you have additional questions, please give us a call at 800.289.8739 or visit trex.com. Happy building!

Hi Ed, thank you for reaching out and for your interest in Trex! Yes, one of the advantages to the hidden fasteners is that you can remove a middle board, if you need to, and then replace that board without harming the surface of the material. We would be more than happy to discuss further or provide those instructions if you would like to give us a call 1-800-289-8739.
