Well that would be impossible to do considering I'm in my late 50s and I'm more interested in investments that could set me up for retirement in my 60s, my goal is at least $2million.

I feel your pain, as a fellow retiree I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me,I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $130k in passive diversified safe-haven assets, Up 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

I think it's especially difficult for retirees and near retirees, I know to focus on the long term but the anxiety when you're supposed to be retiring in 3years is super exhausting, I've been looking into hiring a market expert as well I wouldn't mind lookin up yours

Sure advisors are outperforming the market and raising good returns but some are charging fees over fees....seeing that their services are in high demand more than ever....Seems more like extortion to me.

Not necessarily, the advisor I use Lisa Ann Moberly is a one-off fee advisor and when compared to what I benefit in returns, it's pretty reasonable.

Professor G, I'm doing all 3. It's difficult but it'll be rewarding. My problem is not knowing which trading VTI or VOO in the individual account or the Roth IRA would be more beneficial. On a 5yr plan, individual seems ideal, but I want less taxes, more gains, and not just my contributions before 59.5. Insight please?
@ambermerefield7742
@ambermerefield7742 11 ай бұрын
It depends on your age as well. You can’t touch the ROTH IRA until you’re 59 1/2. If you are planning to start using that money in 5 years, then regular brokerage is the way to go. I’m 41 and hope to be living off my portfolio in 5 years. I’ve got enough money I can invest so I max out my ROTH early in the year and then dump everything else into my brokerage
@rowens208
@rowens208 11 ай бұрын
@@ambermerefield7742 you can touch the IRA before, but only your contributions which defeats the point. I am 41 also! I'd like to have the money to spend before I'm 60. Retiring in 5yrs is the point of this video so I guess I'm asking, which should be the priority? Contributions to IRA or individual brokerage? It seems like you max your contributions to the IRA and then the rest is play money. I'm not so sure that's the right 5yr plan, but I have no clue. Not knocking it at all, but you're right. Where you are in this process determines your approach. Thanks for responding Amber
@ambermerefield7742
@ambermerefield7742 11 ай бұрын
@@rowens208 yeah I realize you can pull your contributions out before 59 1/2 but I agree with you that’s not ideal. I don’t plan on touching the ROTH till I’m 59 1/2. It’ll just sit there and build with it’s tax bennies. I’ve got other investment accounts where I dump the majority of my money into. The ROTH is predominantly where I hold my REITS. It’s made up of SCHD, SCHG and REITS.

Investing here in Canada in a TFSA (similar to IRA). Luckily up here our large cap equities are not massively overpriced like the US and Canada’s market relies on banks, energy, industrials & utilities…all huge dividend payers in lieu of hyper growth tech & healthcare. Maxing out the account with them and letting the dividends re-invest inside while compounding is a sure fire way to retire anywheres between 15-20 years out. The idea is to put as much of your own income into your portfolio and treat the dividend income like it’s adding to your savings rate by re-investing. A first milestone would be when your investment income matches your own savings rate, then pays your bills, housing, and then finally comfortably affords leisure.

Great subject. I’m semi retired. Incl buying power. At 3% inflation ~$2.45 for same $1 now over longterm. Diff ways to calculate expenses but don’t assume you’ll need LESS as you age. Medical/health costs too often under estimated. Nat’l/ public systems incr what’s not covered and wait lists for care homes 1-2 yrs. One unplanned expense can cause money chaos. Google for your area. If/when you need it costs will prob be much higher. Friends who work in these areas say clients are younger every year. More 55-60 yo. If no private health ins get it and life ins while young/healthy. Dental, drugs, hosp etc will prob be large cost for most. Think ahead. Add a buffer.

funny that you mentioned the Starbucks example. I used that *exact* example w/my son last week. I asked how much he spent at Starbucks every week, he said two. They're $6 each. My example was to cut that to one per week, so $24/month. We plugged that $24/month into the compound interest calculator, and that added $100k to the bottom line after 32 years. What got me really excited was when he went back and changed that $24/month to $100 and then $150, I could see that light go off in his head, I'm pretty sure he 'gets it' now!!!

Thank you! Another question I invested on 3 etfs 1. Voo- 50% 2. Qqq- 35% 3. Schd-15% (The percents are from the amount of money I want to invest per month) Do you think this a good plan for 5-10 years from now?

1.5 mill. I came to a similar amount with my wtf-am-I-doing method (a little over a million) and I feel so validated hahaha. I’m doing 1 and 2 but my 3 is dividend investing (goal is pure financial independence ASAP which would be around 5 years, not necessarily to retire. in. 5. years.) and it is just as painful 😩 Guess I’ll have to lookup a video of yours about dividend investing now.

Prof G, I get paid $7500 per month in dividend. I work 2 relaxing part-time jobs (caregiver for my parents). I am 56 years old and live a humble (no wife and kids) and frugal life (pay off house, car and credit cards). I also invest in CD, Traditional and Roth IRA. Should I retire from my 9-5 jobs? Thanks.

@CWO-J 11 ай бұрын
Depends if your living expenses are covered by you $7500 in dividends with a buffer. Also, health care seems to be an issue for early retirees, but as you have 2 part time jobs that don’t likely provide those benefits I’d expect you have that covered. May be beneficial to get a hourly financial advisor to review your situation.
