THat was an amazing demo! I'm a First time skipper and had some nerves about docking but your directions were so clear and precise! Definitely gave me an excellent explanation. Love the work

People in cars cant park like that and you are affected by winds and current. Skillfully done great to watch.

I reversed into a wall a few years ago in my parents car. I looked over one shoulder and saw the driveway, then didn't bother to look over the other shoulder to see the corner of the house...lol. it wasn't funny at the time. But it's funny now, looking back on it. Many years later. Lol.

You always provide clear demonstrations but why do you use the wheel to back in and not just the sticks? I'm guessing you have a rudder angle indicator so you easily get the wheel back to center... Is that correct?

Thank you. Nice to see that. We have a 2 engine cruiser and reverse into the berth always. Challenging without thrusters. Maybe on the next boat. 😁 Had to do it with one engine the last time this season and that was even more fun. 😳

My dad just bought a Bayliner and has it in dry dock doing a ton of work to it. We just installed a bow thruster into the boat. This will be the first boat he's had in 40+ years and my first boat to help navigate. Both of us are going to take boating courses together. My parents put my name on the title. So I'm part owner lol.

Good demonstration Captain!! What if the elements of the current and the wind come from the bow? I found it the most challenging situation on the catamaran

To turn the boat you can use one engine in forward gear or the other in reverse. Which one you choose depends on which direction you want the boat to drift. Use yout starboard engine if you want the boat to drift to starboard, and vice versa.

Last boat i docked was in the early ‘90s.......it was a 25’ donzi with single mercruiser bravo stern drives. And we didn’t have any of the tools or tricks you have today.....docking was an art back then....far more difficult and required skill and experience. With the all of the tech u have available today, i bet my 4 year could dock stern to without any trouble!

Like to see you try that with my 89 omc powered single engine with a full canopy up, bikes on the swim platform and a dog running around. A 20knott wind changing directions from Port to stern, boats on either side and Jack asses entering the marina with a large wake. Oh and a 10knott undertow... In other words, real world situation that us normal lower class folks deal with daily.
@paterson00
@paterson00 3 жыл бұрын
Class level has nothing to do with skill level or circumstance. A good skipper copes dispite the equipment or circumstance, end of.

Well done, but why are you turning the steering wheel like a wheel of fortune? 🤔 Harbour maneuvers don't require steering. At this speed props and thrusters have a much bigger steering impact than the rudder.
@Nick-ez5wf
@Nick-ez5wf 5 жыл бұрын
With high pitch props that (fast) boats have you can use the steering wheel successfully at low speeds. But the big reason is that this sunseeker has Pod Drives so the Props rotate just like with heck drives.
@jonnreid2978
@jonnreid2978 5 жыл бұрын
Nick Even with extremely high pitched propellers such as my high speed 17.5x20 they render the steering useless astern and having little effect at low speed. I’m certain he’s turning them mainly due to their pod nature.
@stefanknorsch
@stefanknorsch 5 жыл бұрын
@@Nick-ez5wf With pod drives it might make sense. But normally pod driven boats are docked by using the joy stick to fully use the counter rotating pods. So I didn't realise that this Sunseeker has pod drives. Maybe a video about different approaches with different propulsion systems would be nice.

It really doesn't get much easier than astern into wind and tide. Going into the berths on the opposite side is more challenging. These are all well presented videos but too much setting up for success.

Sick of seeing these videos with almost ideal situations, no neighbours and a thruster to hand. In the real world boats everywhere lots of wind and no thruster

Generally you're right, but as long as there are so many people unable to dock under ideal conditions, because they have no plan, these kind of videos make sense.
