Riding a correct corner (which is really just quarter of a circle) will set you and your horse to win so it is worth taking the time to understand how to do it. I hope you enjoy this video.

You’re the only trainer who gives so much detail! 😊. I need that. My question is at approx. 6:50 when you say inside leg for the bend, is that leg applying steady pressure or is it pulsing on and off his side at the girth. What exactly is that inside leg doing. I can’t find it anywhere 😫.

Attaching your elbow to your hip is the perfect visual for me, I let my elbows draw forward way too much. Thanks for the videos, always so helpful.

Amazing explanation! Thank you!!! As many people said on your channel- you are a great teacher! I also think that attaching elbow to the hip is very clear explanation what to do with our ourside arm. Thank you for SHOWING how this affects on our horse- SUPER IMPORTANT! This was amazing!

You mentioned many different types of half halts. Any chance you can do a video just on this? I'm confused with what muscles get tightened and which should stay relaxed. Keep the videos coming!

I have a hard time with my leg aids...I don't know if I'm just weak in my lower leg (calf), but when I am riding counterclockwise with my horse, getting him to stay on the rail/wall is always a real chore...he is better in the other direction, but perhaps that is because I am right legged (so to speak!) and that calf is stronger. Or am I going about this all wrong...I really do not properly understand just what muscles I need to use ...thigh, calf, ankle? Do you have a video on this that you have done that you could point me to? Many thanks!! BTW, I love your teaching style!

Hi Cat, It's hard to say without seeing you both but you are probably having that problem due to a straightness issue. That's the horses straightness issue not yours. I haven't done any videos on straightness yet but I do explain it a little in this video so see if this helps you.

Perhaps create a wall on the inside. Hold a crop or whip against his inside shoulder, hold inside rein against his neck and maybe apply your whole leg (thigh, calf ankle) against his inside. Make sure he listens to that leg. If it doesn’t help, bump him w it then apply pressure again. Open outside rein and leg to create space for him to move overThis was one technique I learned. But there’s probably many 🤷‍♀️

I love your channel and am a new subscriber (haven’t gotten to watch all the videos just yet, so you might’ve already touched on this topic:) Can you do a video or give a quick tip on handling or redirecting a spooky corner please? I’m at a loss since it’s not an everyday occurrence and he’s been at the barn for 2 years, knows the property inside and out, etc. When it happens, there aren’t any triggers so to speak. The Indoor arena doors can be open or shut, banging in the wind or not, it’s basically a crap shoot…. The other day, it was windy as all get out, arena doors were open and some loose random goats pop out of the bushes, didn’t even phase him. A few unremarkable rides later still all good… Beautiful day no wind no goats, and it’s like a demon was waiting for him in “the corner” I ride him with the same energy regardless of where we are and i don’t know what else I should be doing? Thank you :)

I have the same problem with Spider. He is inherently a spooky horse and if it is windy a blade of grass might move and he spooks! If I feel it coming I will "do something" a transition, a turn, shoulder in but something to bring his thoughts back to me. I have to be honest and say it doesn't always work and I just accept him for the way he is and try not to get frustrated.

Another question. A little off topic. Sorry. When you leg yield, do you time you inside leg bumps to the front outside leg being forward or does that not matter. Will the horse leg yield without this timing? My trainer is making such a big deal over this. I reallyyyy hope you answer please

Bit confused here. Some videos on turning say to press your outside leg. You mention to press your inside leg to avoid the horse cutting corners. So do I press both legs or just inside? Or outside? All advice much appreciated❤

When you turn you do use outside aids. She is explaining how to bend on the corner. So I believe your outside rein is against neck for the turn and your outside leg is back because you’re asking for bend and the outside leg back will prevent the hind end from going out because you’re using your inside leg to ask for the bend. I’m no expert by far but I hope this helps a little😊

I have a problem with my horse overbending his head in, but my outside arm is not strong enouht to pull it back and then he falls out of the circle. I need the inside rein to get his dead down, because by only using outside rein he just bends his head out. It just feels like I cant get his head down without overbending him to the inside.

It doesn’t have anything to do with “strength” BleBleBle and it’s really hard for me to offer you any advice because I can’t see what is happening. I’m sorry 🙁
@mirandy1014

I’m nooo expert. Are you confusing bend w flexion. All you need is to see his inside eye for flexion. What do you mean by “getting his head down with the inside rein? Unless I’m off track here my OTTB had something that sounds like that. She was soo green. My trainer had me plant my inside rein like on my thigh while half halting on outside rein. Also low hands help. Idk if this is good info. Also, maybe you’re using too strong of an outside rein?
@mirandy1014
@mirandy1014 4 ай бұрын
Also it sounds like you may be pulling on the reins. Don’t pull. Either resist, just have a contact or gentle half halts
