You won´t believe how many ppl would like to do things but fail because they they think too much or have lack of confidence. This is the same what's hindering them to join other riders. Ty gmbn for always encouraging the people. I think especially within the greatest sport in the world the first experiences on the mtb need to be as cool as it can be to rise the stoke level.

When I used to live in London and occasionally commute to work in winter on my downhill bike. I would change off road wheels for road wheels and tyres. Sort of "supermoto" my bike. There was always street furniture, stairs, challenges and obstacles to ride. The great thing about this was I still got my fix of challenging riding, and I didn't get filthy dirty nor did my bike. Obviously if you screw up and hit the deck, the ground is a lot harder than rain sodden mud. But a prang, is a prang. I once suggested that one of my mates that he give it a try. (Road wheels on his down hill bike and go urban down hill)....... The look he gave me was like I had told him that I had just wiped my backside on his pillow. He was shocked at the thought of it.

Saddle down, pedals straight and level, and try to put most of your weight over the back wheal this is the most important thing. Because as the nose of the bike dives in the stairs the back will have an easier time getting up in the air thus loosing control and throwing you over the bars (don't ask me how I know).. I'm riding a 300$ XC bike every day in my urban area riding stairs every single day. Yes it will be bumpy on a hard tail but with practice of that technique it will be a piece of cake. And most important put on your protective gear, don't be scared, and commit to it! Have fun

In addition to Blake's vid another tip is to approach with pedals level and push your knees sightly forward so your elbows bend right before rolling in. This makes the roll in easier compared to doing it with more stretched arms. Once rolling in your bike will shift forward and because of the bend arms you have more room to let it do so without having to move your upper body a lot. Don't forget to drop the heels slightly once you roll in. I hope this makes sense, a bit hard to explain in just words 🙈 Learned this from another KZfaq tut ons stairs but not sure if it's appreciated adding the link.

Also, another disadvantage of riding too slowly on a set of stairs is that the natural tendency to counter steer for balance could force the bars at full 90 if the front wheel happens to be just at the edge of the next step. This will almost certainly cause you to jackknife over the bars especially if the stairs were steep. Just keep a moderate speed and and front wheel square. And of course weight centered over bottom bracket.
