When I first learned how to ride a wheel I wanted so many tutorial vides but many of them were competed by very experienced riders. I did not see many tutorial videos conducted by newer riders. I feel this is important for new riders to compete such a tutorial because we know what it feels like to try and ride wheel for the first time. If you want to purache a wheel consider using my link with EWHELLS to support the channel. www.ewheels.com/MrPhillips

One of the better videos for sure. Thank you. I am 63 and I am going into day three. Observations: My legs were weak to begin with so I was VERY shaky and tired quick. I highly recommend stretching before and after training. (I hate to stretch) and taking an anti inflammatory (Advil). You are going to have a lot of soreness. EVERYWHERE. You will be twisting at the waist A LOT to keep your balance / direction / keeping the wheel under you.. Watch how other new riders use their arms for control for turns, going forward and such. If you panic and need to slow down fast, use a sitting motion. IMO.

As an experienced mountain biker just dabbling into EUC videos and getting hyped; I ended up jumping in, buying a used Kingsong, for both commuting and work-purposes. My overconfidence and allowing myself to be mislead by only watching review videos resulted in me making precisely the mistakes you highlighted. Yours is really the best tutorial + your day 1 video. For the first hour I would stomp on the platform and/or try to hold the wheel with my hand in an awkward position or try to stand up from seated or nearly seated. Then I watched your tutorial, followed exactly what you said, and was riding within another hour. Could have avoided all the extra bruising 😅😅. One thing I can add from my experience is to consciously activate your core when learning that first step up onto the wheel.

That's some great advice. At 8:18 you talk about where your eyes should be looking. In motorcycling we learn that your bike will go exactly where your eyes are looking. It appears to be true for the EUCs too.

Two years ago, I bought my first unicycle, a V11. I had no idea how to ride it until I stumbled upon this video and followed Mr. Phillips' instructions. That day, I rode 86 km on my unicycle, and I haven't stopped since. Later, I upgraded to a V12 HT and recently sold it with 9200 km on it. Today, I'm a happy owner of a Begode EX30. I want to thank Mr. Phillips for his tutorial; it allowed me to enter the world of EUC and enjoy it to the fullest in just a few hours. Greetings from Argentina. My respects.

If you're a beginner and still scared of narrow places - probably because you're afraid of falling at really slow speeds - try watching some UC riders' videos (UCs, not EUCs). You'll see that's a lot easier, on an EUC, to try to mimic someone riding an UC. "If they trained and can, I sure can, as well. Just a matter of training enough - the right way."

Great video - one thing I found helpful mounting the wheel is to keep it under your body and not out front too far ... so when you push with the left foot, lean a bit with the right shoulder and get that wheel moving while you bring up the other foot ... not a huge push or lean ... just enough to buy you time to get the other foot up onto the pedal ... then with both feet on .. standup and look straight ahead and enjoy cruising around in large circles .... scariest part is when you venture out onto a bike path and you're faced with oncoming kids or families on bikes ... ie staying in your lane .. lol. This hobby is life changing for the better.

I’m late, but I appreciate your work. Got a v8s on a good deal, going to get it down and keep it as a light duty ultra portable wheel and get a second (or third, let’s be real) wheel for having fun. I’m not a high tops guy, and that’s been my main thing. Man, has it bit my ankles a few times. 2 hours in, I’m up and rolling, just gotta improve. I’m a scooter and ebike guy, I can see what this is going to be once I get going. A 30 pound thing I can throw in the trunk and go 30 miles at up to 22 is awesome. Keep it local or extend out from a car. I can’t wait to get good and get a real high power one, so versatile and fun and removes the whole parking situation. Just bring it inside.

I am shook by the power this wheel has and I have only scratched the surface of its potential. New folks: Dont get discouraged if your first day is full of struggle. Just keep at it as much as you can and then sleep on it. Day 2 was miles easier and more fun than day 1 and both my friend and i managed to do laps around a parking lot!

I really did not go into too much detail about that because it will come in naturally turning while moving this slow. I try and out a little pressure in the opposite leg of the direction I am trying to turn. When I was turning on the first day I would loose balance anyway and just go with it and would turn automatically. 🤟

I'm of the mindset that it's easy to overdo it, and that sleep is an important factor in the learning process. /r/ElectricUnicycle is full of new riders who are wondering why their legs hurt so much where they contact their machine after their first day... That wasn't much an issue for me. I broke up my training over three days, half-hour session each day. While it was a little discouraging walking it home from my training grounds those first couple days, I knew I was laying the groundwork down with the drills and progression I was taking. And when I rode it home the third day, I had the biggest grin on my face. I knew from the beginning that I'd be dropping and scratching up my S18, but I didn't get a cover for it. I might add some padding or something - pool noodle foam and velcro FTW. My worst crash so far, I was doing about 28mph, going down hill. Busted up both the inner shell pieces, lost some screws, sheared some screw threads... good times! Dunno if any padding or covers would helped... My wrist guards saved me a trip to the ER for sure. My wife chided me for not wearing my Bumsavers (padded shorts with tailbone and hip protection, I use them when rollerblading at the skate park), especially since I landed on my sacrum. EUCO sells replacement paneling, thankfully, and there are some good resources for working on the S18 already out there. You hit the nail on the head for a proper training grounds. I used the nearby middle school, there's an easy-to-access parking lot with a wall. Good drills, good progression, I'll definitely recommend it to anyone who asks for a good how-to. Stay safe!

Superhelpful vid! Personally my biggest hurdle is just when you first time everything your body is so tensed up every single crack, ridge, bump doesnt get absorbed 😅 learning to trust your gear and yourself takes a lot of patience. might help to find a crack/bump/uneven terrain and just driving over that repedeately or how to slow down before it, after training the basics.

Great vid, hands down best beginner tutorial I have seen. I am a week into it and I've been out every day getting a little better each time. I had a lot of the same experiences as you. To be honest I came into it thinking I'd pick it up faster than I did because I'm usually a fast learner with stuff like this, but it took me a while. Don't get discouraged out there! I like your comment about muscle memory, this is a whole new thing for your body to learn using muscles that you wouldn't use much normally, and you'll get fatigued fast when you are starting out, so go in short bursts each day. I also found that controlling direction was a big challenge for me until I paid attention to shifting weight to the opposite foot (turn left by pushing gently off your right foot). I'm going to practice your push off start technique because the start and stop is always where I still have trouble. One last tip is be prepared when you go up or down a steep hill for the first time because it is a really weird feeling! The wheel naturally stays upright so its like you're riding an escalator not a wheeled vehicle if that kind of makes sense.
@MrPhillipsTheChangeAgent
@MrPhillipsTheChangeAgent 3 жыл бұрын
You are so correct how quickly you get tired when learning. It’s like every muscle in the body is working so hard. The opposite pressure to turn is so correct as well. I like what you said about the short burst. I posted in a group or two and everyone kept saying they learned in an hour. Everyone does not learn that way. Most of the people I know take a few days to ride safely. Like you said the key is to not get discouraged. Everyone learns on their own timeline.
