Two things I noticed while I learned to ride seated that I don't think you mentioned. 1. With a suspensionless wheel if you don't have a very soft seat your butt will be about as bruised as if you'd tried horseback riding for the first time. I.e. don't over do it the first few times until you get used to it. 2. Having the wheel in medium mode is nice when learning to go from standing to seated position it gives you just a little bit more leeway as the wheel doesn't react instantly if you're just a little bit off-center when crouching down.

Very good info as always from you. Seated riding is a lot of fun, also it can prevent back ache. My recommandations are: 1) Start standing up then sit 2) adjust seat to the length of your legs. 3) S22, Inmotion V11, V12 and V13 and Sherman wheels are brilliant for seated riding . The seat price is a laff so creative DIY is a good idea.

Funny how i disagree with alot here. I have the stock lower pads, and custom upper pads with no front part, so its similar to your setup. But, everything you said is only applicable when you're small, and you can sit with the whole foot touching the pedals. Im 1,93, and my heels go up when seated riding, which means no hands free transition because at one point, im only standing on my toes. Also, at higher speeds i would never touch any part of my euc, would introduce way to much instability. I find seated riding to be way way more stable then standing riding, so why would i put my hands on the wheel while seated at speed (60kmh+). You where right about the grip on the seat, I've put some Moosgummi ontop of the original S22 seat, and i printed a hard plastic seat support for underneath the seat. Without those two easy mods, seated riding is shit on the S22 in my experience. Also on the point of starting to learn how to ride, I've tought 6 people by now how to ride seated, and i would never start with the transition. I always teach them how to actually ride seated first, by letting them start and end seated. Only after they can ride stable seated, i get to the transition. The reason is simple: transition is a very unstable process which needs to happen fast (unless youre smaller), so new rider would go from stable standing riding, to very unstable transition, to yet unlearned therefore unstable seated riding. The way i do it, they go from stable standing to unstable transition to then already learned stable seated.

That’s why I personally have no wish to ride these things standing. One I like my Onewheel for standing riding just like I preferred Snowboarding to skiing. I tried the stand up Euc and it was ok but not my thing. I’ve watched a lot of bad things happen in that transition thing. When I ride my manual Uni’s it s a 100% sit down thing for me and it has never felt anywhere near as dangerous as the motor ized machines. I guess I’m too old to take unnecessary risks. As fun and crazy as it seems riding on One wheel machines , it is a hoot and already a risky business.

@WrongWay! - Could you PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEE make a Part 2 video about riding seated WITH power pads? Most people don't have your setup so this video only applies to 2% of the entire EUC population :( Most will always want to have acceleration/power pads and not your setup so it'd be more useful to the community if you gave specific guidance on maneuvering the seated position when you still have pads in the way? I sit down as if I was doing a heel elevated front squat, with my hips abbove the seat i need my butt to go straight down. Squatting down "normally" brings the butt back like a chair, squatting with knees coming forward instead of the hips going back allows me to sit without the two step squat he did.

Im liking educational videos, do you have a video on preventing wobbles?
@dirt.surfer
@dirt.surfer Жыл бұрын
Learn to carve, find the balance point for you and the wheel you are riding. Keep your knees slightly bent. Speed wobbles are common going on a downwards incline this is an example of knowing where your balance point from you to your wheel is important. You don't want to panic this can unsettle you entirely. Typically you end up on your ass because you instinctively well go into a brake posture, but you can solve the wobble with carving, by squeezing the wheel with your legs and adjust your posture.

@mr_wrongway im wondering if i could do a custom seat on my 14d. The way i imagine it is to stick(epoxy) two curved plates(left and right) on the surface below the handle. The plates are curved to contour with the surface. The two plates will have provisions to have rods connected to them. Front and back part. Thats four rods all in all. They all go up and converge to the center (above the euc handle) where they end up welded to a seat tube (like in a bicycle). Then you can just insert a typical bicycle seat. You can adjust the height. And within the bicycle seat itself you can move it backwards or forward. Even change the tilt angle. What do you think?
@your_bases_are_belong_to_us
@your_bases_are_belong_to_us 11 ай бұрын
if its hard to imagine what im trying to say, just look at the typical bicycle. The bicycle seat is mounted on top of a seat post. The seat post is inserted inside the seat tube. So what if you can have that seat tube installed on the top of your EUC. Because you have the EUC handle blocking its way, have rods welded to the seat tube and those rods bend around the EUC handle into the body of the EUC where they are connected/mounted. The seating can be adjusted in as many degrees of freedom as that of a bicycle. In times when i want to make use of the EUC handle, Im also thinking of a hinge and quick release mechanism at the mounting points so that i can just let the bicycle seat assembly hang at the side of the EUC so that i can pull up the EUC handle if needed. Or perhaps, if the seat post and the seat tube is long enough, then i can just pull the bicycle seat up to a sufficient height that it becomes the EUC new handle.

Why not just make a EUC with an adjustable seat post ( maybe a suspension dropper like on my MTB) and a real true and tested UC seat? Seems more and more these things are evolving as a sit down machines like the original manual UC's. To each their own but sitting down all the time for cruising sense makes since to me on these things. Personally I like this way better on EUCs but sideways stance on Owewheels

I’ve had my v12 for months and I’m too chickenshit to ride it because I lose balance every time I try (standing up). So I guess it’s just starting…though I don’t know because I don’t know what it’s like to be moving on it in a forward motion at all. Should I just try starting from a sitting position? I don’t have a seat. Should I get one for the V12 first before starting from a sitting position? Or should I just pull out my ski sticks and try starting from a standing position using the sticks to give me a false sense of confidence? 😂 Or should I just wrap a shitload of packing material around my body and just go for it? I’ve got all the protective gear already but my helmet is a bike helmet. Would I feel more confident with a helmet like the one you wear in this video? Sorry for all the questions but it’s been months since I purchased the inmotion v12 and I’ve been watching videos and trying to visualize myself starting without falling. I’ve had so many falls on bikes throughout my life and I’m getting older so I don’t heal as quickly as I used to. I just really feel like overcoming fears, the less rational fears, would have an empowering effect .

Paralysis of over analysis. This means stop: thinking and simply learn by feel, (which is actually extremely difficult without some training). One way to reduce your cognitive burden while learning is a friendly shoulder to help stabilize, or the best supporting device I’ve found is either a post or pole to ride in circles. This permits a support that can be gradually lessened as learn to ride and steer around a circle. The LESS you think about your body positioning, the faster your intuition will gain its own muscle memory. It’s very counter-intuitive but the goal is passive experiencing, not continuously over reacting with course motor skills; fine motor skills development requires a light and balanced touch, which only comes with time riding without spasmodic over correction. Do, but do not think. {insert favorite karate movie quote here… be like water…} There’s plenty of time to obsess over body positioning and mechanics AFTER your body can sense and maintain balance during transitions. A pole or children’s playground carousel apparatus is where ALL new EUC balance learning should begin, whether you are a complete beginner or are simply adding skills, like riding backwards or seated riding… always begin with a pole! After your muscles are capable of riding without constant exhausting tension, then you’ll be ready for the analysis of your body positioning and how to move proactively with the least effort needed to enhance the feeling of flow during maneuvers. {If you look a Mr. Send’s video on Idling, it gives us a good example of how complex maneuvers can be executed with gross body movements while always remaining dynamically balanced so as to minimize the corrective forces necessary to save muscle power… watch first with the sound off, then again with sound, then a third time w/o sound at 0.5x playback speed. You might be able to see that thinking is way to slow to be effective at directing body movements… thinking retards learning… and, like the pole, should be used more so as a mental crutch than an actual physical support. “Free your mind, the rest will follow.” Techniques are meant to be practiced, not analyzed to death… and riding by feel is a good practice. {On a related subject, visualizations are best just before sleep, which is when all deep learning happens anyway… but that’s another story.} If anyone else consciously empties their mind while learning around a pole, please share your experiences. In my experience, shopping carts and ski poles are a waste of time. Basketball and football goal posts are a good place to begin.

One of the best things you can do is just finding a wall or even better a narrow corridor (so you have walls on two sides) and lean against it and just spend some time with the wheel under you even if you're not balancing to get a sense for how it moves. Makes all the next steps easier when you have a basic understanding of how the wheel "feels" for lack of a better word.

@@grb1969 Thanks for the response. I’m pretty good with going around a pole as boring as it is. I have a feel for how the beast works below me. I can go around a pole (holding onto the pole of course) in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. Switching directions takes a bit of time and I’m always close to falling off but not actually falling. I haven’t tried a carrousel probably because I don’t know where one is. I think they are illegal in playgrounds nowadays, at least in my area of the U.S. Northern California. But that would be excellent because the turning radius would be much larger! Closer to going straight! As I said, it’s going straight that I am freaked about. Maybe I should get drunk first and find a grassy area and just take off going straight. I can probably get my daughter to video me wobbling around so I can create my own videos and post how to be an EUC failure on youtube for a laugh. Ah…I know what I can do! 💡 I could get a pole and a dog leash and hold onto the end of the leash to increase the turning radius. Then I can extend the leash if the pole is in the middle of a grassy field and get my path curvature closer to zero! Approaching the curvature of a straight line! Yes! thanks for lending an ear. I’ll let you know how it goes on my channel or back here.

@@oliverer3 Thanks oliverer3. I’ve got a couple of guard railings that go up a ramp, used by those with wheelchairs. I keep knocking into one side or the other. Concrete is so damn hard to fall on. I’m thinking I’ll find a pole in a grassy field, attach a dog leash, and then increase the turning radius (using one of those retractable leashes) to decrease the curvature and with a long enough leash I can be going almost straight! I’ll post a video when I do it so you guys can get a good laugh :)

There are some good videos on YT on "how to ride an euc" Kuji Rolls did a nice one 4 years ago. Even Wrongway put out one 2 years ago. A bit longwinded but his ex Kate gave some good pointers. Also about 4 years ago Inmotion FR had a whole series on instruction which though in french was self explanitary and quite amusing. You can find those by New Walkings under subject heading starting LesTutosDeLaSemaineS1E01 (5years ago) and if you get to TutosDeLaSemaineS2E34 you'll make wrongway look like a novice! A wall or railing is your friend , look ahead , not down, put the pedals on the lowest position on the V12 and lower the tire pressure to 25psi. You will get it eventually.

I personally ride better seated than standing… acceleration, braking and turning is so much better for me sitting. I feel more comfortable going high speed and over bumps. But I’d say it becomes more of a hover over the seat then actually sitting down.

Going on 3 years on V11 and now Sherman S, have never sat even one time. Not 1/100 of a mile seated. Seems odd to me.

Great instruction, ..!! 🏆 ✌️ 🛞 Pivot your 3rd point of contact. It is quite different to ride seated, I'll get the hang of it. 💯 💶
