Good idea for the how to videos. No matter how much you fish you always pick up something from listening to others. I bow and arrow cast so often now I’ve started wearing buckskin instead of waders!

I see your point about a loop to loop on a small rod but here's how I solved it. 95% of the time I'm fishing with a 7' rod or 7.5' rod. I just basically keep my leader length shorter than the rod so there is always a few inches of fly line out beyond the tip. I hate the loop to loop getting hung up on the guides but hate even more a kinked leader butt. In order to maximize the leader length, I attach a small piece of dense foam to the very end of the rod with a rubber band to use as a hook keeper. Viola! 7' or 7.5 leader with no kinks, no loop to loop hang-ups on the guides. Looking forward to this series!

I love fishing the blue lines. I use two rods, one is a 5ft 2wt TQR from cabelas, I've had many fun outings with it. The other is a little longer 6ft 3wt. From Temple Fork. Always a fun time. Blue lines fish better. No fishing today, bad weather. Enjoyed watching. 👍

A few tips here that may help Blue Line Outfitters take their game to the next level. 1) It's easier to get the line and backing onto the reel if the the reel is mounted on the reel seat and the line is run through the stripping guide. I usually just use the butt section of the rod for this unless it doesn't have the stripping guide, if not then I add the 2nd rod section. 2) the amount of backing can be more accurately judged if you start by winding the front of the fly line onto the reel, then attach backing and wind until the level you want is reached and cut the backing there. Keep in mind that this is likely the tightest it will ever go on as the gentleman in the video stated. Then pull it all off, make the arbor knot with the backing and wind it all back on. 3) the video showed a nail knot to attach the backing to the line which is fine, I usually use an Albright knot, which doesn't require a tool and works just as well or better. 4) A needle knot is smoother than a nail knot and possibly the strongest knot for attaching the leader to the fly line. I coat this with 2 or 3 coats of pliobond cement to seal it and keep water from seeping up the core of the fly line. 5) the smoothest fly line to leader connection is to thread the leader into the fly line as if starting a needle knot and then use adhesive such as zap-a-gap cement on the tag end of the leader, then slide that down into the line to affix the leader and wipe of the excess. There's no knot or seam to catch on anything. I've never had an adhesive bond fail with this method using zap-a-gap cement. I don't think I'd try it on heavy saltwater fish but for normal trout and bass freshwater fishing it's more than adequate. 6) When attaching a leader to the fly line, try to get the stiffness of the leader's butt end to match the stiffness of the end of the fly line that you are attaching it to. This helps transfer the energy of the line to the leader smoothly and it definitely makes my casting more accurate. There are a number of other things that I do differently than shown with leaders, but I don't know how much can be digested in one sitting. This is the 1st video I've seen from these guys and based upon the limited exposure of the bow and arrow casting in this video they could use a few tips to up their game there as well.

Taking the rod apart- an older gentleman at a fly shop, told me that if your rod is ever stuck together, put your knees together, put the rod behind your knees, grab a hold to the rod on the outside of both knees, and while holding the rod, move your knees, apart, the rod will separate, because physics is forcing you to pull the rod straight

so funny i just had my rod get stuck together and had to wait two days until it was ready to come apart !

Do you guys usually use a 4x leader? I thought you would use a 6x leader for small streams.
