Gameplay wise it's similar to the older Settler games like 2, 3, 4 or 6 before Ubisoft decided to run the francies into the ground with 7 and 8. The Settler 5 would be more like AoE II or III. But I'm glad the genre got some love in the last years with Frostpunk, Farthest Frontier, New Cycle, Pharaoh: A New Era and Surviving Mars.
