You are so right about not being as safe as we could be when we grew up around equipment, I grew up working on farms, and around excavators, backhoes, and skid steers as well as dump trucks ranging from pickups to Tri-axles, my grandpa always had tractors around. I always catch myself getting too close to a moving machine and trusting that the operator knows where I’m at and what I’m doing. I guess it just happens when you grow up around it. Not a good way to be though

Daniel P this is definitely true I know when I first started out I was told you'll never truly learn till your on your own and doing and thinking for yourself. That coupled with seat time is important. Even still to this day having my foreman standing there watching or anything like that makes me nervous and screws with my performance. I've actually jumped on the two way twice and said I charge admission to watch to him or anyone else who watches. Cause it just makes most people uncomfortable. It's one of those give me the space to do my job and learn and gather time in the seat if my performance isnt matching where it should be or on the off occasion you notice I'm doing something incorrect than yeah but beside let me learn, earn and burn some desiel!

In the UK there are training bodies that you HAVE to pass a test through before you can operate any construction equipment. It's commonly referred to as a licence, but it is a certificate of training, and as you get experience you can progress from a trained operator to an experienced, or competent, operator, and the licence card changes colour to indicate your level

This is a really great series. As someone trying to get into the industry who watches a lot of this type of content, these have been uniquely informative beyond the normal "here are the controls, don't do anything stupid" type videos. Most people who don't work in construction or mining would never think of setting the tires on a loader. I certainly wouldn't, just thinking "oh it's heavy, if my bucket is flat it should have enough traction". Thanks for making this.

Going along with the shut down, you can lock up the turbo if you don't cool it properlly. The blades and the housing cool at different rates and it will lock up the fins.

I once worked a summer job where I had to use a payloader to separate and move oil tanker rail cars around a series of tracks so the oil could be pumped out. I was a young dude and not very cautious or considerate. I caused $1000's of damage to the rail cars since I had to use the shovel to push on the gangway to push them apart and then get behind and push on the knuckle to move a series of them. I'm amazed I wasn't fired and they even wanted me back the next summer. LOL.

I may have miss it but for your safety you won't always be working in a clean level yard, always clean your working aera of rocks and fill holes, make it level, drive around it to feel the level. Practice on different materials like big rocks. Don't try to go fast. speed will come with time and I don't mean pedal to the floor! Watch the bucket and front wheels too, some have gard on the side and hydraulic reservoir too. Semi trailer are higher and more difficult to load, be carefull. Ask and learn how to do a ramp when you receive new material to pile it like a mountain to take less space...Good video by the way!

I'd like to see these except using older equipment. I think most people getting into this are more likely to start out using older equipment rather than brand new top of the line stuff. But that's just speculation on my part from my own experience. Now this is an extreme example but I'm learning on an early 80's CAT 950 where the controls are absolutely nothing like these.

I don't have the ability to do everything in the videos' I watch.. From restoring Matchbox toys, to small engine repair to VW restomods, homesteading and earth bag or timber framing homes, etc. So your video's fill a niece. Thank you

You create really informative videos. Thank you so much! I will be having a job interview for an equipment operator I position. I will be tested on how to use a front end loader, attaching a trailer onto a truck or pickup truck, back up a truck with a trailer attach to it, and operating a farm tractor. What advise do you have for a novice?

Yes,I'm sure that a majority of subscribers AND new viewers to the channel would get a lot of information about the machinery they use or own. Maybe even owners of businesses that would be helpful to show their employees so they don't destroy the machinery, hurt themselves, someone else or customer's property.

Hi Stan, Love your channel and thank you for putting out valuable information. I have a question on a patio installation. I am installing Cambridge Ledgetone pavers. My patio area is 18' X 32' . 18'X12' out of the 18'x32' is an existing concrete slab that is level. In order to achieve a one inch drop per 8' towards the one end I would have to raise the other end by 2 inches or so. Should I use paver base and sand on top of the existing concrete to slope away or should I pour a thin layer of concrete/ self leveler and tapper it from 2 inches to 0 inches over 16 ft? What would you recommend? Thank you for your feed back. -Romeo

I enjoyed watching this, and the quality of the production is excellent. I look forward to more in the series. The only thing I find is this really should be titled "how to teach someone to run a payloader" as this particular video didn't really tell me much about how to operate the equipment.

I wish I had you guys on YOutube when I started working in a concrete plant loading sand and gravel into the hoppers. They just put me on a machine and turned me loose. Wrong thing to do when I never operated a loader before. It was an Old Old Old Cat, and no one showed me how to keep the bucket level, what the float option was, so I put a lot of clay into those hoppers and had to clean them out using the wheel barrow and shovel. I also got a lot of complaints from the bosses, I finally got it though on my own, and nearly getting fired when I had to whop up on a boss one time who carried the insults to a level I could not tolerate.

Operated CAT 966c back in the '70s. I always operated with both feet. We did not have joy sticks back then. But, at times I was operating 2 levers at the same time. My understanding is that these new machines are stupid proof in comparison to the '70s.

I have noticed that some of the machines operators they forget about safety when they have a deadline to meet. But what they also forget that if they break something in the machine or cause an accident they are not only going to miss the deadline but they will loose a lot of money trying fix what they broke. And God forbid a life could be lost.
