I store my green propane bottles in a small igloo cooler in my vehicle. I checked it out. 101degrees F. Outside. Inside the cooler in the truck 85 degrees inside the cooler. It also keeps them upright.

As a climber, I dismissed butane altogether for years and then just recently gave it try - which verified that I was 100% correct to have ignored it. However, that experience led to my "discovering" propane. Now THAT makes sense; the green bottles are not criminally heavy and propane boils at -40F so it's still got decent PSID at single digits. I use an MSR LOWDOWN with a Rocket; that thing rocks like an acetylene torch. It's also possible to put the bottle in an Outdoor Research 1L bottle parka for some warmth/padding. The Whisperlite is still my choice for survival-critical situations but otherwise, LPG is my new friend.

Great video, I have a few backpacking stoves that I use with propane instead of butane, The ones that have a hose instead of screwing the stove on top of the bottle can be a problem if you do not keep the 1 lb cylinder upright, Liquid propane can enter the lines and cause your stove to spit and sputter instead of burning cleanly...When using propane on a butane stove make sure that your propane tank stands upright so as to avoid this problem. It is also advisable to keep your flame as low as possible when using propane, otherwise the higher pressure will begin to freeze up at the burner orifice.

This adapter is essential! Those iso cans can be hard to find in smaller towns where the 1lb LP or map gas cans are readily available

I have two of these. They pay for themselves almost immediately and from there on in it's all savings. Combine them with a refiller nozzle for your 20 lb propane tank to keep your one lb bottles full much more cheaply. Highly recommend especially for camper RV life. The 25 dollar Coleman Peak and the 10 dollar GasOne stoves, any other too, all work just fine on this setup. Buy these.

But there's options for refilling them, either from other isobutane camp stove canisters or from butane canisters, and the item in this video seems like it ought to be a good addition to the other tools for refilling them with a good butane/propane mix for all weather use.

Thanks for sharing, you scared with the lantern (I JUST bought one that says it works with either IsoButane or propane.) I’ve seen vids showing refueling the 1 pound propane tanks from the 20 pound tanks which are even cheaper to refuel, so this means 20 pound propane tank to refuel the 1 pound, then use adapter from 1 pound tank to isobutane stove, so can now run isobutane stove for the price of 20 pound bbq gas station refill propane? 🤓 There is also an adapter to refuel the small (backpacking size) isobutane canisters from the butane stove canisters at 1/10th the cost of isobutane canisters and the butane canisters are available everywhere even in supermarkets

Have you seen any freeze up issues when using propane. They make Lindal to Lindal adaptors for transferring gas between isobutane camp stove canisters. They also make adaptors for refilling those camp stove canisters with butane. Between this and those two adaptors, it seems reasonable that you should be able to build a small, packable kit to refill your camp stove canisters with at least some kind of 3:1 butane/propane mix, which ought to be better than straight butane, especially in winter. If you get a chance, do let us know your thoughts.
