We were hired to remove a through-the-wall AC unit, otherwise known as a wall mounted AC unit and then to close in the hole so that it looked like it never existed.
This is a heavy 15,000 btu air-conditioner that is not only installed high on the wall, over our heads, but it is also over a set of steps and a tile floor, both of which complicate the mission.
Bob came up with a solution to this and because it worked out so well, wanted to share it with all of you.
This video also has a tribute to the 20yr anniversary of Sept. 11

This guy doesn't think in three dimensions. He thinks in four. A really good job.

Clearly there was no other way to remove that monstrosity of an AC unit safely. What I want to know is how did they get it up there in the first place. looks like a 30 year old unit. I'll bet that it was installed before the steps where built. Quite an ingenious removal apparatus Bob. The only solution i could have come up with is to use a ladder with extendable legs as a slide.

I too question how they got it up there but I’m assuming two people on staging could quite easily perform that operation if the two people are strong enough. I disagree with the steps not being there because they wouldn’t put an air conditioner in a wall that was not part of the living area and the only way to get to that living area is by stepping down quite a long way so if not those steps something was there to provide moveability between the two elevations.

Wow ! Well done my man.. I probably would’ve use brute strength to rip it out of the wall, which would have fallen on top of me, and killed me, lol. Great video.

I pulled an old smaller one out, head high, and it almost killed me - heavy as hell, especially the old ones. No way anybody would have got this one out brute force.

Thanks. I’m here because I also have a monstrous AC unit 250v above the window. It is in the corner so it’ll be a challenge.

@Lisa Ferrara I was actually super concerned with the tile floor because matching tile and grout that is a decade old is near impossible and well, hurting myself or Kitana was also an important factor ;)

I have birds living in my air conditioner and I’m wondering what you did after your took out the AC since there was just a hole in the wall. That would be my problem a big gaping hole in my room lol

The funniest story I have heard about one of these, and this was done by alleged "professionals" - they removed one of these by pulling out to the outside, and smashing around the wall to make it "fit". Made a complete mess as you can imagine.

Do they just pull out? Aren't they bolted in?
