For those of us who love driving (with our arm out the window), winter is a bit of a bummer. Removing snow safely is crucial to avoiding a major compound and polishing every spring. Take the extra 10 mins now to avoid a full day of compounding to remove the scratches from quickly wiping the snow off the paint without the proper tools or PATIENCE! -L

Keeping your wipers up isn't good idea. Springs are getting stretched, and stretched springs looses strenght. This may cause your wipers won't work properly. Better idea is to put a cardboard under the wipers and put plastic bags on the wipers. Simple, effective and safe. Sorry for poor english ;) Greetings from Poland.

so what do you recommend for clearing a car when leaving a parking lot after work?
@Sinehmatic
@Sinehmatic 6 жыл бұрын
Just get a snowbrush. Maybe you can find a delicate one that has less of a chance at scuffing your clear coat. If it snows more than 4x a year, you're not going to save time using these methods vs. just using a snowbrush a fixing your paint once post winter. I would have spent more time cleaning the snow off my car than the length of my post winter paint care within the first two weeks of winter using these methods. It may work for some if you RARELY see snow or rarely need to clean snow off your car.

Larry, go to the HomeDe-pot where they keep the exterior window washing equipment. Look for the washing fixture that comes with a removable mircrofiber wrap. The best one is UNGER Model # 963920. There are also telescopic aluminum poles to connect to the fixture. The 963920 is the softest and the safest. Just make sure the microfiber wrap does not get wet then freeze causing scratches.

If you live in a country where there is a lot of snow during the winters, then I'd suggest getting either an electric interior and motor heater or a gasoline/diesel powered heater, both of which are very common here (Finland). The heater will melt most of the snow and also heat up the engine, so you don't have to start it cold.

How about softening the closest layer to the paint using a hairdryer, so you lubricate the layer touching the paint, reducing the risk of the ice leaving scratch marks. Then, you can push the snow out of the car, right?

Hi from Spain Larry. I have been a subscriber for quite some time now and have been very interested in all your videos for cleaning, maintaining and protecting the paint in my cars. I have an issue with one of them that, I believe, hasn’t been covered and I keep of waiting to see if it ever comes to one of your videos. I have a 964 that has spent almost 20 years at a paint garage, until I bought it. Now that the car is restored only thing that bothers me is that the front windshield is lightly scratched, you can only notice it at night with the lights of incoming traffic and in the evenings when the sun is setting in front of you. Is there anyway to remove those scratches (they look like if someone ever removed paint from it using a scotch brite sponge) or I just have to live with it until I replace the windshield? Many thanks

I've always been curious. What happens if you throw water in the car with a hose? Will not the snow melt? Obviously, if the plumbing water has not frozen too. I'm sorry if it's a stupid question, but I live in Brazil and I do not understand anything about snow. Hugs.

My neighbor just did this to her Golf. I cringed so bad and died a little inside. The whole car, the bumpers, everything she scrapes the shit out of it. I scraped very carefully to divide the panels in sections so they slide off by gravity. I didn't do this because I was pussy btw, it's just a car to me, a tool. But I want to avoid scratches as much as I could that can turn into expensive rust afterwards.

As a very keep it real person without a leaf blower, especially after leaving work after a blizzard, i have to have a smart compromises all of the time. My method is a bit risky, but i think most appropriate in everyday situations. 1. Warm the car so bonnet is warm and snow-ice starts melting and slides off easier with water lubrication. 2. I use like 5-10 Eur brush you can buy everywhere. I use it very gently both on the roof and bonnet. If there is ice stuck to paint i dont scrape it and leave it there. 3. I clean rear window and lights and just around the doors so snow doesn't get in. 4. I leave sides and bumpers in bit of a snow since i know its going to get blow off in first couple of meters. Its like a compromise. I love saving paint, but i also need to to some what practical and fast so i prioritize which parts are essential Of Course, usually its a lot less snow that in your video haha.

What about a car cover? Can you brush the snow off the cover (would it damage the paint)
@AMMO-NYC

Not a huge fan of car covers as they can damage the paint and scratch it. sometimes causing more damage the protection. But I understand if that's all you can do. not everyone has the luxury of a covered parking spot or garage. So in theory, if you had a cover on the car, then yes you can brush the snow off but I would still be careful.

@@AMMO-NYC Thank you, I will put the cover on when snow is forecast (rare in The south east of England, you must visit the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸). When living in a flat in a communal car park it is always a trouble without power or water (or space to keep detailing products). Your advice always helps keep the car scratch free.
