How to Sample and Chop with Ableton Push 2 (Tutorial)

So at last here's my full tutorial on how to record a sample from an external source and chop it on the Ableton Push 2 without using a mouse and a keyboard and without looking at the display.
You should have an external sample source connected to your audio interface and you should have your audio interface and inputs configure correctly inside Ableton Live's preferences.
Otherwise, you can of course just load samples from your hard drive and they will load up straight into the Simpler.
Then I use the Simpler's slice mode to chop up the sample into different parts that I play with the pads and make a simple beat.

Crazy. Love your vids. Just commented on your maschine flip the other day. Now I can't decide whether to buy a maschine or push😂....I've had a maschine mk3 already but sold it. Love the ease of making patterns but it was such a chore to create full songs. Now I'm going all in on Ableton software but still want that groovebox feel. So now it's matter of buying mk3 again and exporting to Ableton. Or simply getting a push 2 and keeping everything in house. Was ready to pull the trigger on the maschine but now you got me second guessing. The push 2 seems like it can damn near do as much as the mk3. And don't gotta worry about the hassle of exporting. And that warp feature is a beauty. Damn. You mighta just convinced me to go with the push😭.... I'm a sample chopper to the core so this was impressive.

Thanks for your uploading. Can I ask your setting among Push, PC and audio interface? And is it possible to move the audio clip on Push to the Ableton live?

You’re welcome! But I’m not sure what you mean. Which setting? When working on the Push all clips are already in Ableton Live.The Push is just a controller for the software

can you sample from a windows media player of youtube on the same PC where ableton and push are connected?

Yes, but you need to have an audio interface with loopback functionality or use some software solution that enables it. Another option would be to use your computer's built-in sound card to play KZfaq audio and connect it to your audio interface with a cable.

Do you have to have balanced quarter inch cables? I'm getting a high pitch sounds with my regular instrument cables.

Not necessarily but they may help, depending on where the interference is coming from. My cables are not balanced and I don’t have any problems with noise.

I am confused here do I need two computers one to run the input into the interface and one with the push to record it into ableton?

You can use any audio source to run into the input - a computer, phone, turntable or even the built-in sound card of the computer that you’re working on if you connect it to your external audio interface. You can also record the audio internally from your browser directly to Live if you have an audio interface with Loopback functionality or if you use a virtual audio device like BlackHole. You can sample from anything you want.

I get no signal in my inputs I have a saffire pro 24 interface and my monitors are in the sterio inputs 3/4 connected would be glad if you can help me there :) and thanks for the cool videos that are very informative !!

Thanks for watching my videos man! You should have your monitors connected to your outputs 1/2, not inputs 3/4. You connect your sample source to inputs 3/4 (or 1/2 if they are free).

Thanks for your answer I have now tried it with channel 1/2 but it still comes in no signial .. which is a miracle but the signal of youtube in my mix cotrol of saffire goes in on the master but in Ableton no signal goes in..

If you did it like I did in the video and there’s no sound there’s something you need to change on your Mix Control. Otherwise check your input settings in Ableton’s preferences or on the actual channel you’re trying to record on.

@@deniskesiov3594 Greetings you have to say honestly I have not tried it until today .. I therefore contract the mp3 from youtube as audio and insert it into an audio track and then edit it .. the setting is a bit complicated at Saffire 24 pro ..

Hey g how do you make the sample fit into 1 bar or beat, etc? I got a sample and it I wanna put it on loop but when I try to use drums on it with metronome, it goes out of sync in a way.

Make sure your sample's length is an exact number of bars and enable warping. It's in the video at around 2 mins or so.

@@LowHeatBeats The sample loop I'm using says "Warp As 0 Bars". Does that mean it's length is not long enough? Any idea if it's possible to make it so it is?

Yeah, it may be too short, not sure how to fix it tbh
