I’ve been a cigar smoker for over 10 years. Always blow the smoke out of you plan to save it. Never save less than 1/2 unless you like disappointment when you light it back up. A lot of cigars build up a resin and it will taste not so good.

Shit is never the same

I'm a very slow smoker and even a Corona tends to last me an hour (or more) so for longer cigars I cut them in half and use a small dab of Cigar vegetable glue to stop the cut ends from unravelling. That way I can enjoy my smokes without issue and each half gives me around 40 minutes of enjoyment time. Found it to be a cost effective alternative to purchasing Half Coronas or Petite Robustos here in the UK.

I have done this a few times. Sometimes the cigar sucks on the relight. Sometimes not. But if anything, this is a good reason to have a cutter around that cuts bigger than 60, because it's usually the big ones you can't finish and want to save the most. I'm talking to you Flathead 660 and 770.

I dislike relighting a cigar almost as much as I dislike throwing away a cigar that I’ve only smoked partially. Sometimes I need to step away from the cigar for any various reason you can come up with. I’m also spending what I consider a lot money on cigars for a man like myself who has little money for luxury to begin with. Considering that, I do relight my cigars from time to time, as rarely as possible, the same way this gentleman has shown us to do. I find that the cigar does not smoke the same way in that it does not “develop” as well as a cigar that I smoke to completion. I prefer to relight and smoke it anyway because I think that this is better for me due to the cost of a premium cigar. If I had enough money, I would probably toss out the cigar and start with a different one straight from the humidor but I can’t afford to be cavalier. *This gentleman uses a double bladed cigar cutter which I believe is essential. A pair of scissors made for cutting cigars is also a good option. A single blade cigar cutter will probably crush the cigar.

Ive been smoking cigars for forty years and what ive learned from relighting cigars is its a waste of a once-good smoke. Plan ahead and choose your cigar wisely.

When you relight, blow through the cigar while you light it, keep blowing until the flame goes out on the cigar. It will purge all of the ammonia and nastiness and it will taste so much better. Sometimes I do this half through a cigar if it gets harsh or bitter and makes it taste so much better. Try it!
