When you install the new version, install it under a different name, I usually save it under the directory MAME 0252 (or whatever the new version is) and do what I did in the video first (very important) and copy the default.cfg file from the cfg directory from the previous version into the new one. When you then run it, it should retain the previous controller settings as I hated having to redo them every time
