How To: Save Space, Melt Your Lipsticks! (DIY Lip Palette)

*PLEASE READ BELOW*
First - Thank you for all of you who've left me such great, sweet, and positive comments on this video. You guys are the ones I make these videos for.
Second - Comments for this video have been disabled for the following reasons: there have been SO MANY people saying "you're annoying", "you talk slow", "talk too much", "you're an idiot", "stupid idea", "you wasted so much of my time with this video", "blah blah blah" etc.... to the point where every other negative comment was no longer original, and it was just a ton of angry people (that must hate life and kick kittens for fun) repeating something that others had already typed before them. If you're going to be a TROLL, at least try to be original at it. I mean, it's sad when you suck at being a TROLL.
Listen, it's not because I can't handle negativity... trust me, I can. But I am (and will always be) a firm believer in the saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM is ALWAYS welcomed by me... but if you have nothing constructive, or intelligent to say, I don't want to waste my time reading it.
Trust - NO ONE "wasted your time"... YOU wasted your own time by watching this from beginning to end.

You don't have to buy an expensive palette just to hold pans of lipstick (or any other panned beauty item)... Save some space in your vanity drawer by melting down all of your fave lippies!
Items you will need:
Your lipsticks to melt down of course
Candle/lighter or matches
Blade (Knife, exacto, or even floss!)
Oversized metal spoon
15mm or 26mm Aluminum or Tin Pans
Strip or sheet of magnets (best if they have adhesive on one side already)
A metal pencil case
Under $10 to make a lip palette
(of course this does not include the cost of your lipsticks)

I love the packaging of my lipsticks too much to do this, but its a really good idea for when you get to the end of a tube and want to salvage every last bit of product thats down inside the plastic part, especially when its an expensive product. I will definitely use this method for that!

Oh my god I did this with all of my lipstick left overs and the weirdest thing happened. I didn't have enough (one) that can fill the small tin so I ended up putting three different shaded lipsticks into one tin plate and tried to separate them. I ended up with the most magical shade of lipstick ever. * W* Thank you for this amazing tutorial!

Instead of the candle method, I used the microwave oven. I didn't scrape out the lipstick left it in the holder, when melted just pour out into tin. Way faster and no mess. Love, love your tutorials don't stop.

I enjoyed this tutorial, wish you would have shown the palette when It was all finished and cute. I would also like to see it in use, I don't know why everyone is being rude. It's your makeup, do with it as you please.

This is pretty neat. Concerning the MAC lipstick tube and it being wasteful: it isn't! You can actually take the empty tubes back to MAC and trade a few for some new makeup. What I mean by that is that they have a recycling program so in theory it's a pretty cool project! Space for more lipstick, recycling the old and getting some new ones too! I really need to do this...

I love the concept but the idea did not work out well. I think it would be best to do that when your lipstick breaks or is finishing.. No need to waist lipstick especially when you pay good money for them. Cool idea though!

I live in a small space (nyc) and I travel ALOT. This isn't an old idea and many MUA use this. This also forces you to use your lipsticks... it's a great idea actually!

Unless you have an extensive lipstick collection you want to narrow down to a pallet for travel purposes, I don't see the point in doing this when there's plenty of lipstick left in the tube, but this is a brilliant idea for broken lipsticks, and lipsticks you've used up down to the plastic bit. Another idea, if you have a pallet with an opaque lid, would be to have the key to which lipstick is which on the inside of the lid. It would be intriguing to blend lipstick remains with this technique. I would also say that if you're going to bother sanitising the tins, also wear rubber gloves when doing this or at least use plenty of hand sanitiser or something first.

Yeah $15 for a lipstick is a lot of money, I could get a McDonald's meal, and a NYX soft matte lips cream, and a lipl-liner for that price, and it last almost all day, with eating, drinking and sweating..

this is actually a really great idea. i tried it and it worked really great. my lipsticks used to take up so much space, and they were really hard to travel with. now with the palette, i can carry almost 20, with no problem.

This was fabulous idea. I'm actually thinkg of doing this as gifts. Like mini sampler box/palettes from friends unwanted/unused lipsticks/tubes. I do wish u would have shown the final deco/design on your tin box w/lip tins inside. Thanks for sharing. ...project time!

I found a cute pill holder it has just 3 slots but they had them in green and in blue with butterflies on them at Walgreens for just a few dollars. Really cute holder for your melted down lipsticks!

This would be good for when you're down to the last bit of product. Otherwise I couldn't mutilate my lip stick this way.

I love my little lip palettes! I mix my own shades, and I do NOT need to buy every new color that comes out. I use matte lippies mostly, so it matters not ;-) I am gearing up to do my own custom 28 palette. All I need is energy! Maybe this weekend!

That's a bad idea. Yes it takes up less space but it's a waste of lipstick.

She uses Mac. That makeup brand uses animal oils in them.

Thank you so much for this! I never thought to use a candle. Does the metal spoon heat up at all? Am I best to hold the end with a glove? Also, I have some empty plastic pots, could I use them as containers or is the liquid too hot? If anyone could give me tips I'd appreciate it. I have had two broken lipsticks for ages so I can finally get some use out of them! :) xx

you could totally use the plastic containers as the final holders because you'll be pouring lipstick into them. The lipstick cools pretty quickly, not immediately, but fairly quickly. The metal spoon does heat up, but since the lipstick melts quickly, the spoon handle won't get that heated up. Just don't put your fingers near the trough of the spoon.

***** It's not evaporating because you aren't burning the lipstick, just heating it up. When wax melts it hasn't reached boiling point, only when it starts bubbling will it begin evaporating.

It saves space by putting all those tubes of lipstick laying around into a one palette. Some ppl even carry all those almost empty tubes around to touch up their face, lol Make-up is expensive and even if a person is rich, not everyone likes to waste. Thanks for the upload, NO more fighting at the end of the tube anymore :D and this way the lipsticks I use for blush looks more fancy.
