There’s a slight difference between “Вы” with the capital letter and “вы” with the small letter, or “Вас” and “вас”… etc. The first one with the capital letter we use for showing respect to ONE person (though it sounds like second person plural), but the second one with small letter is for second person plural only.

We actually double checked that rule when making this video and found that the use Вы and Вас with a capital letter is antiquated and the majority of speakers today do not differentiate them in informal writing.

@@RushintoRussianit’s not antiquated, it’s a grammar rule. Even when you PM someone (a doctor, or a teacher) you respect, it’s kind of informal, but you should write with the capital letter. Though a lot of native speakers don’t do that, but that is an indicator of the illiteracy of a person. I’m talking about native speakers. When a person from another country, especially not from post-soviet countries, where Russian is still the second language (almost the first😅), then yes, it’s ok to make those mistakes. And I think that’s amazing when Americans can speak Russian, because it’s a difficult language.

But there’s one thing that’s not correct in your video. We wouldn’t say Кто это был? If an animal ran by, we would say что это было? exactly like in English
