If you are wondering how to school a horse start with this exercise. It is the easiest exercise ever! This is a fabulous exercise for training a young horse or it will even help an older horse limber up before the hard work begins. Whether you are schooling a horse for jumping or training a horse for dressage this horse training exercise will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. It is one of my favourite exercises for horses.

So I tried this today. One word. AWESOME!!!! Profound affect on my high headed, short necked draft cross. Suddenly he stretched his neck, and he gradually came round. I worked less and had better results. Thank you thank you!!!!!!!

Hello. I did this exercise this afternoon with my mare and it really helped enormously. By the end of the ten minutes she was soft and compliant. I even did a little sitting trot for the first time. Many thanks.

Honestly Josie I have watched so many different trainers online and in person. You blow me away! You are so talented. Your lessons are easy to follow and practice at home on our own horses. The respect you show your horses is overwhelming heart warming. Soooo happy to have found you.😊

I love watching your sessions..although I haven't had a horse since I had to put mine down 2015 when she went into liver failure twice (she was with me many years and her loss took everything out of me) I would like to try again next year..I am 69 ..never had lessons as a young kid , just kind of taught myself by reading everything I could find.. My question to you is how do I find a decent instructor??..I don't hang around horse people as I am still working and just recently do not also have to babysit grandchildren which I have done since 2000..I don't want anything more than to be well balanced which I feel is what a horse would appreciate most..thank you

I have been doing this each morning and evening. First day, the trot was a rocket launch by the third time my mare lifted quietly into the trot. The down transitions are so soft. Question? If the horse breaks gait from the walk into the trot (prior to the 10 steps) Do I start the walk count over?

Thank you Ron I hope it helps. Make sure you concentrate on a slow trot. If he doesn’t want to go slow turn him on a small circle line and let him go straight as he slows down circle if he speeds up and repeat. 😊

Need advice on getting my green ottb to do a lazy trot. He speeds up and gets hollow. Should I just stop him and try again, or let him go?
@BasicHorseTraining
@BasicHorseTraining 2 жыл бұрын
Anne you need to do a down transition before he gets to fast. So the second you feel he will start to get quicker in the rhythm down transition to walk. That should help with rushing.
@anneconverse3060
@anneconverse3060 2 жыл бұрын
@@BasicHorseTraining I have been doing that. Will keep trying. Thanks for your reply. Love your videos.
@BasicHorseTraining
@BasicHorseTraining 2 жыл бұрын
Anne you may have to do only one step of trot before you walk. Really pay attention to his tempo and the second you feel it speed up do the walk transition. Then when you have done that enough times he should start to anticipate the down transition - when you feel that you can try "almost" going to walk but then say ... no I changed my mind lets keep trotting but slower x
