How To Scrape PS2 Cover Art For OPL USB Games Tutorial - 2023

I'm revisiting this topic from a video I made several years ago to serve as a quick refresher for those who are new and veteran to the PS2 modding/homebrew scene. This assumes you have a method to launch homebrew programs on your PS2.
This tutorial shows how to use OPL Manager v22.3 to scrape cover art, which will put it into the "ART" folder whether that is on your USB, ps2 hard drive, or SMB shared folder. In OPL, make sure to enable the cover art settings, and you are good to go. Enjoy!

Fun Fact: You only need to rename one game with "Try Update Filename" and then BATCH Art downloader will work for every game, no matter what their titles are

Thank you brother! I already had like 650 games and I added some so only the ones I added didn't have art so I was a little worried it would try to add art twice for all the other games but I don't think it did. Thank you!

I keep getting the Unhandled Exception error when trying to load games from my external Hard drive. I've been googling possible solutions and getting run around in circles. can anyone help me?

i keep getting an error message , " saying unhandled exception has occurred in your application " when trying to load my file on opl. games run on ps2 opl. just doesn't show when trying to change cover art etc.

I know I’m late but can I get some help with my ps2 slim not reading my hdd? It’s not compatible with fmcb so I downloaded latest version of funtuna, not fortuna. It only read flash drive for some reason. I’ve tried other hdds and they still don’t work

I use opl all the time now, but have recently seen an issue, where it finds artwork for different games , for example it has changed rayman artwork to rush, i guess theres an error somewhere

That is odd one, maybe you can trick it by making sure correct slus code is in OPL manager for it to scrape the art correctly.

So im guessing its out build because the background cover art isnt showing up for me as well and its doenloaded to the art folder thats kinda a bummer, is there anyway to force the background art onto the opl games menu?

Try latest version of opl manager and try a few games to make sure the process works. The filenames of existing games shouldn't have spaces or any special characters, that could break it.

I havent done it myself but probably a little more effort for smb sharing (but it needs smbv1) but on a cheap pc or pi or Linux box it can solve the issue easier

Hi, I got an issue where my games are stored in internal HDD . So everything works fine no issues games..all art work and the themes are there except for the cfg files where I have set the modes for some of the games to avoid black screen through the opl manager are not being reflected on the ps2 opl its like it’s not reading the cfg files from the internal hdd . So I have to do the configuration manually again on the ps2 opl in order to set the modes. Is there a way to fix it ? I tried making post about it on ps2 home scene but it’s always get rejected for a reason and I am too tired to write it all over again trying to explain the issue

I don't do much internal HDD games with special cfg files but if they are stored in right location then not sure what's up. Could ask a dev in psx scene discord or on their forums if you feel like writing again xd

What's the trick to increase artwork load times in opl with large game collections? It takes forever for me.

I don't think there is any special method, we are stuck with what we got unless you disable artwork?

The opl manager program should be able to download and save the art files in the right location. Otherwise, can do it manually by saving the files to usb and then use ulaunchelf on the ps2 and put the files into the ART folder manually.

@ProjectPhoenixMedia I did that, but they dont show up. before you go into +OPL folder, you enter HHD0 folder. My memory card boot is on 1. Not what else to do.
