They make trailer hitch extension supports .it's goes into your trailer hitch you can adjust the length how far away from the bed and the height . You could put a foam rubber v block on the top of it and it would be an additional tie down point at the very end of your kayak

What brand cam straps do you use and what is the length of the one on the tailgate? Thanks?

I use malone straps in various lengths but the tailgate one is 12’. Yakattack also has great cam straps.

Yes, once. It now collects dust in my garage. Have less than 4’ overhang with the tailgate down so not necessary. However, will be using it with my new truck with a 5’ bed.
