Brilliant stuff. I actually wrote an article where I said the overall secret to success is selling because we all have to sell, whether we're selling products, services or ourselves, in either our business or personal lives. I love the reinforcement here about pushing oneself when needed and delivering value all the other times. Let's see if I'll do it when I've finished editing my book.

Thanks Derek, love your energy. Selling aggressively is tricky or rather being specific about the possible outcomes people could expect for themselves if they buy your/my product is tricky. I think for me I am concerned about over promising and under delivering. My product is good I believe (as you noted) but it is probably only as good as the effort people put into it.

Good Stuff. Made me realize that I'm great at selling my life coaching biz because I have 100% proof i give big results. It also made me realize I'm selling myself short with one-on-ones. I should reach more people. This video also made me realize why I don't get as many big writing gigs as I'd like. I needed a push to get pushy to the right people. I now have three meetings set up with CEOs to talk about writing more. Thanks! I needed that push.

I am one of those people who hate being pushy, so how do you know when it's the right time to be pushy?
@stefanus4263
@stefanus4263 9 жыл бұрын
Autumn Cieply that's actually the easy part... it really depends on what you're selling.. some products are obvious, such as tangible physical products.. in this case, once they show interest, you need to move them along the sales process.. within the sales process, after eliciting/validating their problems, present the best solution.. this is where you can be pushy.. for example, they want "A" solution, but you know should really push "B" solution although it's more expensive / most expensive, but you know it serves them better (assuming solution B suits their needs and better than solution A).. pretty much after eliciting their wants and needs, you can be "pushy" all they way.. assuming their best interest in mind of course...

Enough already... it's just simple math... the conversion rate for sales is 1% - 3% point blank, working hard to "sell people" on your product is great and dandy but it barely moves the needle and won't really make sense to tackle until you a really large company who has saturated a particular audience and are now trying to increase your bottom line on that audience. The product should already be "easy" enough to convert seamlessly to 1-3% in sales, so if you aren't getting sales from your views it means you don't have enough of an audience or something is wrong with your product. That's why most companies conduct market testing first, if the product has a lower than average conversion rate, then something is wrong with the product. What's wrong with the product is usually three factors 1. There's no need for it 2. People don't know what it is/how to use it 3. There's already something out there that does the same thing they are already familiar with And likewise, If the product has an average conversion rate but isn't selling enough, then there isn't enough of an audience. If this person has "a bunch of followers" on facebook etc, assuming they're a targetted audience and not people she "bought" the conversion rate for sales should be even higher 10-20% so if she's not converting to any sales at all within that then her product isn't marketed correctly, her audience has already started churning (your audience has a short attention span if you don't keep replacing them they WILL move on), but most likely she's like most people who have 3k followers put an ad up and expect that they'll get a sale from 2000 of them, but realistically the number should be more like 60 - 300, and worse if you haven't been consistently building your audience to keep replacing the ones who bought once and aren't repeat buyers or churn over time. There really is no magic to it like you people try to push with all these stupid e books and the like.

People's situations are unique, but the solutions can be common. The wisdom of sales is mapping how the solutions can be helpful for each individual's situation. We all don't need a different salad, our bodies can process what is needed for each individual, individually. But as you describe, it is hard to connect how similar solutions apply to unique situations in a single touch (and not bore everyone), so multiple touches (email, video, twitter) allow for you to map how the solution will meet.

I make and sell a magnetic bookmark online and at local art & craft shows. Our very first show, we had a lot of people walk right past us that morning, not even a glance. Someone said, 'oh, it's just a bookmark,' as they walked by. My partner jumped up and started showing people how it worked. The show was from 9A-5P and you couldn't leave early. We were almost sold out by noon. I was worried it wouldn't sell that morning and then I was worried I wouldn't have anything left to sell that afternoon! We joke that she trips people to get them in our booth but the reality is that it really is an awesome bookmark and once customers see how it works, we have another sale. My slogan/blurb/whatever is a riff of BNSF, 'We didn't invent the bookmark, we made it better.' I know, but when I heard it on the radio, it just clicked. And it works.

So I'm currently canvasing for a custom window and siding manufacturer. most times I either end up on very rich, or very poor people's doorsteps. and on either side of the spectrum, I always get people slamming doors in my face, or running me off their porch insisting that they aren't interested, or don't need what my company has to offer. my question is, what trick, setup, or pitch will make my job easier? keep in mind, all I do is collect names and numbers from people, and to make my quote I only need seven contacts. but even then, getting numbers is like David fighting Goliath without a sling.

We had to learn to value our work more. We were hard core DIY and couldn't imagine people would be willing to pay $1800 to faux paint a bedroom. But that was the market at the time. We eventually learned people were willing to pay for what they value. Your advice on finding their triggers is helpful. Once you know that it's a matter of making a presentation tied to those triggers.

The unique needs of the person. It does not feel nearly as 'pushy' when you believe what you are selling. That is the other test of what people are listening for. Derek gets 'pushy' but his belief in his content makes him seem genuine. That is also what multiple touches allow your audience to check-your belief in yourself.

I recently started working in a mobile company and have a hard time selling to some people. People have developed a bit of fear from making deals with us. I guess they have been lied to a lot the past years from overpushy and ambitious sellers. Bad thing is our managers are those overpushy and ambitious liars from the past. My question to you is what would you recommend follow this "lie and succeed" politic or be creative and try to win people's trust?

Thank you for that! I've been trying to sell a coaching programme, and although I thought I was hard-selling, I don't think it was aggressive enough. Saying that, it's hard to prove to people that it will work for them without testimonials from similar people - I suppose I should offer the programme for free to a handful, so that I get the testimonials - or would that be shooting myself in the foot? Hmm.

To an extent I agree with this message but not entirely. Here's why. People on social media just are not in "buying" mode. No matter how much content you put up, there's going to be very little sales. it's impossible to scale to a full time income putting up free content and value, since very few are gonna buy that way. What needs to be done is that you have to have a solid sales funnel in place. Send paid traffic to that funnel, make sure the product is good, and there will be conversions. Free traffic is too slow and takes too long to get results. You can be putting up KZfaq videos all the time, wasting your time on FB, Twitter, and Instagram, and NO ONE WILL BUY FROM YOU. Instead, pay for traffic and send it to a landing page and sales funnel, and let the funnel do the selling FOR YOU. Once you start applying these strategies you will wonder why you wasted so much time with free traffic to begin with.
