Great video Benny, I am new to buying covered calls on Fidelity. Is there a way I could ask you a question about the process. I just bought my first contract about 2 weeks ago. My question is around if you are worried about the stock increasing a lot, how do you get out of the contract. Scott
@ThinkMoneyBenny3 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, thanks for stopping by the channel. When we’re talking about covered calls, we are SELLING a covered call. not “buying a call,” ..buying is completely different so be careful with that distinction. So after you SELL a covered call, you can exit the position by “Buying to Close”
@scottkugelman58723 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkMoneyBenny @Think Money Here is what I did, I don't mind sharing it with you. The stock is ENG and I obviously own 100 shares of the company. I did a sell to open, strike price is $5.00 with a June 18 expiry. The stock is trading at 7.04 today, 2/1, so I am worried that the stock might be say $12 a share by June 18. I'm considering switch my entire savings and checking to a Fidelity checking account that I can use to trade with. Thanks, this is very helpful. However, I did my first covered call yesterday on ABEO and it appeared red (as in losing money) on my "Positions" tab despite the ABEO price being higher than when I initially purchased it. Why is that? Is it that it's calculating the missed opportunity of being able to sell the covered call at a higher premium? Any help would be much appreciated.
@ThinkMoneyBenny3 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly right, its just calculating the current value of the contract at the present time. The premium will always fluctuate. The closer you get to expiration, the more likely you will see the contract become less valuable, assuming the stock doesn’t go past your strike.

TOMAS MARTINEZ yes that’s right, i would buy to close if your stock goes down a bunch, which would make the covered call you sold almost worthless. Lets use my example, i sold a covered call at $42 1 month out, but lets say the stock went low to like $38 ... then i would buy to close and collect most of the premium. That way u dont waste time waiting a month & dont risk the stock going back up... i hope that makes sense.

is there a fee when you sell a covered call?

fidelity charges .65 cents for buying/selling contacts

@@ThinkMoneyBenny im assuming the call needs to be picked up before you’re charged a fee and paid your premium? I’m new to the option game and have a few shares I am able to play with.. wouldn’t mind collecting a premium or even having them called away at a reasonable price point!

Think Money can you show me how to do one?
@ThinkMoneyBenny4 жыл бұрын
Yea no prob, you go to the options chain, select the strike price you want and click on the bid button as shown in this video, then make sure the action is “ Buy To Open” .... after that select “ limit price” and insert the amount you want to pay for the contract

Think Money what is Buy to close?
@ThinkMoneyBenny4 жыл бұрын
That’s for when you sell a contract, and then let’s say you are up on your position & don’t want to wait for the expire date, you can close the contract. I use that after I sell cash covered puts or covered calls.

Is option trading for beginners?
@ThinkMoneyBenny4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the question Keith.. i would not recommend options trading for beginners. There are certain things you need to build up to get to that point.

To tell you the truth, I don't really understand Cover calls and because of that I'm a little intimidated by it. I mean, is it like a bet you are placing? Is it like, I believe this stock will go to $42 by July 31st? So how do you make money from that? I'm so confused. And you can lose money if you are wrong, right? O.o
@ThinkMoneyBenny4 жыл бұрын
lol i know how you feel! I was lost as well in the beginning, I wouldn’t focus on this because it’s not for beginners... when you start having 100’s of shares of a company, then it’s something you can practice.. and you’ll need a bigger sized portfolio.

NICE! I just found your channel and love how you explained it and how you're like me and wont use those newbie brokerages ... why would you use Robinhood? STEP UR GAME UP and get off the kiddie rides ... dump Robinhood and use a FULL SERVICE Brokerage ... its about building WEALTH not just trading ... and Fidelity has ALL the services (stocks, IRA's, college accounts, so on) Thanks again and keep this ROLLIN! YT search my Covered Call channel ... *Core Position Trading* peace
