Hi Jimmy-nice video!- ive just bought a new bg86, a very nice blower- pleased-ive also got an old 12year old Husky bv125 blower which also iv had from new,(now in need of a new carb boot & strip down) Regards fitting new plugs it does say on new NGK plugs to give them a half turn?-but yes very important not to over tighten👍

I use a length of thin fencing wire with a hook bent in the end to fish the fuel filter out, found it easier than fingers.

Great review as always mate,its good to see someone showing how to service it ,I do my own but some operatives will take it to the workshop and be days till they get it back,it’s only 30 minutes of your time to service it ,I do mine on the side of my van.Thanks for doing these jimmy as even I pick up tips from you,keep up the good work mate.💪

I'm hoping this will give people the confidence to have a go themselves. The only tricky bit is the spark plug, you just need to get that threaded correctly. Thanks for watching and thanks for all your support 👍

Good news / Bad news for me. I did just as you did with my BG86-Z. I was so excited the fuel filter change was uneventful. THEN locked up fuel in the cylinder ... lots of fuel. Where to look? That 'pipe' tube must connect to the carburetor ... disconnected? It did not feel that way

If you lock it up with fuel in the cylinder you need to remove the spark plug and gently pull the start rope until it clears.

Hi Jimmy, hope you are well....I have just enjoyed your diy instruction tutorial on servicing the Stihl leaf blower......I have a two year old one, ( SH 86C) which has been little used....I fired it up to use yesterday with new fuel, and it started fine, ran for two minutes under load, then it just died.....appears fuel starvation as I can't get fuel into the primer bulb despite much priming......I removed fuel filter and it looks clean, I took it out of line and blew through tube to carb, and tried priming without the filter in line, but still can't get fuel into carb.....be very pleased to have your suggestion as to what's gone wrong....may thanks, Peter

Right, first of all, remove the spark plug and pour in some fuel, replace it and see if it fires. This can help suck the fuel through. If this doesn't work then there is either a split in the fuel line or a leaking diaphragm in the carburettor ( common problem ) To test this you an fill the tank with fuel and then wave the blower around as if you are using it. The fuel tends to leak out from the back of the carburettor. A replacement copy carburettor can be found cheaply on amazon with this link amzn.to/3MOqmmK Hope that helps, Jimmy

Stihl recommend that you use their own 2 stroke oil in all of their small engine machines. It contains a fuel stabiliser and works with petrol that has a content of up to 25% ethanol (E25) Thanks for watching, Jimmy 👍

Do these machines have spark arrestors, my machine seems to cut out when warm hot..

Some of them do have a gauze fitted over the exhaust and when this gets blocked up the machine stalls. I will try to do some more in depth videos over winter if I can. Cheers, Jimmy 👍

Do these Stihl blowers have any engine oil reservoir that needs to be topped up?

Not as far as I know, they are just a 2 stroke mix.

@@frankew45 no it doesn't. There isn't a separate oil reservoir anywhere. Just make sure you get the mix right with the 2 stroke oil so you provide enough lubrication

What's the gap supposed to be on the spark plug?

I wouldn't know, I haven't gapped a spark plug for many years. Just pull them out of the box and screw them straight in 👍

@@JimmyTheMower I just checked with Stihl: 0.5mm = .020" I was taught to always always gap every new spark plug before you install it so I always do.

@@JimmyTheMower Update: I changed out the air and fuel filters and spark plug yesterday going by your video/directions. I GREATLY appreciate you taking the time do make that. I did all 3 things within 5-10 minutes including gapping the plug. That blower runs like a raped ape now lol.

Hello.. why it started with the choke on? Is that normal?

Yes, first couple of starts of the day will require the choke to start it. Once it is warmed up it should start easily without the need for choke. All the best, Jimmy 👍

@@JimmyTheMower yes but shouldn't it start for a second and then turn of . Then take out the choke and then started? Yours started directly with the choke . Didn't turn off

@@marteeeen Yes, if you pull the trigger then it automatically switches the choke off and puts it in to run mode.

Weird they make the filter material almost black unlike white/creme on other air/oil filters.

Yeah, that's true. Most others are white so you can see everything that's trapped.

Was an ok synopsis but you didn't mention anything about the spark arrestor nor you didn't check the "gap" on the spark plug

Nobody gaps spark plugs anymore. Just throw the old one away and screw in the new one.

Hi Jimmy I watched your video from Brisbane Australia thanks, but my Stihl blower had none of those problems. In the end it was the exhaust spark arrestor mesh which once cleaned which took 5 mins, and all was good again, as per this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jqx0qcyfvK_Pc40.html Maybe you can add that to your future videos.
