After watching a few other videos on winch maintenance, it is SO nice to watch a professional properly demonstrate something she has done many times before. Tips, details and your experience are so valuable. Thank You!

In Canada, a "Peeler" and a "Stripper" are synonymous.... both tend to use poles. Great video and a very good job by Rachael of explaining it all.

@@Abc-kf4qx Or in the UK they don't mean the same as they do in Canada. Duh. (actually, in the UK a peeler is a cop.)

From time in the service working on rifles...I would seriously suggest having spare springs on hand before doing this. Small springs have an AMAZING ability to disappear into some far corner of the universe, never to be seen again.

Or just do it inside a rolled-up towel. No matter the direction it pops, it will be caught in the fabric.

Good vídeo, could you do also one for the furling system of the head sail?
@YachtingMonthly

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll certainly have a look at doing that. Dismantling a furling system is a little more involved as some system require the forestay to be disconnected, but we'll see what we can do

I know this is just an example (and a two year old video) but if you're arriving from the future like I did: You *must* reapply that anti-corrosion every single time you pull those differing metals together again. I know it looks like it's okay because it looks like enough is on, but, as an ex-navy aviation technician, I promise you one time you pull that thing off it will not come off. Corrosion happens so damned fast! So always reapply everything: grease, oil, anti-corrosion, lock-tight (if used), etc! They may have redone this all off screen, but I wanted to throw that out there. /ted talk.

Good video.. the single speed self tailing winches on my boat were completely different. The drum was removed by unscrewing a top assembly that included the self tailing gate

Yes, it's difficult to cover all winches and different brands and even different age models from the same brand can work in very different ways. We'll see if we can cover some other brands in future.

Thank you, good video overall. Suggestion for camera person to spend more time and frame on the item being worked on. Nice to see the speaker's face here and there, but she began explaining and doing something at the same time, and the camera was on her, and not the item.

The manual shows no lube on those plastic bearings and also that top screw has a very light torque spec.
