I cannot thank you enough for this thorough and professional video. My Remington 582 had factory lubricants that had hardened to the point that it was inoperable. The rifle would fire upon closing the bolt. After disassembly and thorough cleaning; it is now safe and operates as new.

The Remington 581 I just cleaned up was bought for a birthday gift to a boy across the street, probably fifteen years ago. When he opened the gift and his grandmother saw it was a rifle, she ran out the back door of the house. I still have the gun and remind him that it's parked in my safe whenever he's ready to try it out.

I fixed my 581 by installing a Canjar competition single-stage trigger set at 1.25 lbs for squirrel hunting. It’ll go down to 4 ozs if needed for sporter competition. Accuracy wasn’t close to my Anschutz 1710 sporter so I had a Broughton lightweight match barrel installed with an extra action screw. Now it’ll stay with my 54-action Anschutz at 50yds.

One thing I failed to mention in this video is that this video also pertains to the Remington models 591, and 592. These rifles are chambered in 5mm rem. magnum, and now that Aguila is producing this cartridge, owners can continue to enjoy shooting their vintage Remington 591 & 592 rifles. The triggers are identical to the 580 series rifles.

Thank you C.O. for your thorough explanation & awsome video on 58x / 54x trigger maintenance. I have done a similar job on my old (and treasured) Remi 541.S. Very wise advices, specially regarding lubes being used. I myself use that very same Hoppe's mineral oil (BTW: pH 'neutral'), mixing 95% of it with 5% pure synthetic silicone oil, as well as Litium- based grease (I use Italian Campagnolo bycicle chain grease), and suggest NOT using any 'acidic' lubes, which could affect trigger housing's integrity, since it's cast aluminum + zinc alloy. Just adding a couple suggestions: If you DO love such a jewel, I'd suggest having it stripped / throroughly cleaned / degreased following your instructions, and before re.assembly, have it Cerakoted, for protection reasons. Actually there are several finishes that mimic most alloy's colors, besides being quite impervious to many chemical agents. I'd also suggest getting a punch set, (Several options from Brownells, Weaver, Wheeler engineering, etc) that include dedicated roll.pin punches. Whenever I use Loctite, #242 Blue one is my choice, (I use a clean, sharp toothpick to apply a tiny bit to a screws' thread, before driving it back in, just snug enough. Any excess, I remove it w/ a Q.tip), for NON.permanet use.😊🙏🙏🙏🙏

Bought myself a norinco jw 105 , 556\223. has a reddot sight with tube style and it looks like a scope. I got it and the magazine latch was crooked and the magazine wasnt setting in right so took it apart and realigned magazine latch and works perfect now. And the bolt release had a chunk of metal that was making the spring to not work, it would catch and the bolt would come out. I did some work to the release and now it works perfect. Reviews say that the jw 105 is similiar to the 788 but i never had a 788 so im not too sure. The jw 105 is a copy of c z 452 or the bruno 2. Its a cheap alternative to the savage , ruger , remington rifles. Im thinking of redoing the trigger on mone and setting it to a little bit lighter. Its heavy right now and i want a bit of travel so it feels like a 2 stage trigger. If I can. I know these triggers can be worked on because theres screws and bolts that adjust. I just need to figure out which screw does what. I shoot 55 grain bullets. The norinco jw 105 looks like this 22 lr you are working on. Very similar but different looking . Same magazine latch and trigger set up but the 22 has a different trigger .

Nice detailed instructions. Not sure you have a video on it or not, but would like to see your procedure of refinishing the gun stock. I have a couple stocks I'd like to refinish when I get the time. Ones a Remington 870 and the other is a Remington 788 .243 cal.

These guns are fantastic, but it's really too bad that the bean counters didn't allow all steel parts and flush-fitting magazines ala the earlier 510 series.

Hi sir, Bought 581 and having safety problems... After opening and closing bolt sometimes safety will not engage! Any ideas why.. Thing is doesn't do this ever time.. Most of time its after it fired and chamber next round??? Also will new style trigger assembly exchange with old style assembly without any other part exchange? Loved your video. Question, my trigger is stuck and also I cannot get the bolt out. The safety and fire switch will not go all the way forward to release it. In your video you said to soak the trigger mechanism in acid tone to get the gunk out. Can I do that still attached to the barrel and would that loosen it up for me to get the bolt out or would I damage it? Please answer, I need help. Thanks Verlene

My wife just inherited a Remington Model 581 22 LR from her father. From my past experience with this rifle it is prone to discharged when the bolt is closed. We are afraid to give it to a family member or sell it, because its unsafe. Does you have an idea why this might happen? Save Share Reply

I have a question for u on a remington 541s , there is a lot of play in stock and action, the take down screw won't tighten Any more then it is. It looks like in stock it was made for a wedge or a bedding brace. Is it supposed to have one
