Cartridge valves play an important role in our hydraulics systems and making sure you have the right valves for the right jobs is crucial.
So how can you do it?
If someone just tells you to match the valves up based on how they look you will be in a world of trouble.
As I explain in the training below, 2 almost identical valves can have completely different jobs.
To make this task a little bit easier. We’ve created a quick 5 minute training running through the basics on cartridge valves and how to identify them.

What if we have cartridge valve in telescopic boom with no number ? Documentation not available because serial number of the rig was lets say reworked and not recognized by the factory ?

How to identify a screw-in cartridge valve from a Turner/Spicer automatic transmission? Can not find anyone to cross reference the P/N stamped on the side: EDH64309. Made by Comatrol with 2 solenoids fwd/neutral/reverse. Made 2/03. 4:

Excellent video. @ 2:30 of this video, this valve looks same as relief valve but normally cartridge valve symbol is like "T shaped" in schematics but in this video, it is quite different. Kindly correct me if i am wrong.

Hi there, the cartridge valve shown in the video is a motion control valve designed for load holding, this particular valve has both internal and external pilots, together with a bypass check valve. It is a normally closed pressure control valve, which is why it looks similar to a relief valve symbol, but it is used for a different application within the circuit

How do you bleed the pressure off of a cartridge valve before removing it? Our Hydraulic Cyl. Supplier sent us some new cartridges to test in our cylinders and the first one we unscrewed came out like a bullet!

Quality ones will have a relief machined in threads, I'd change supplier if they couldn't supply a safer quality part.
