Thank goodness I watched your video first before I did mine, I did NOT know about the EPB service mode, so thank you thank you THANK YOU!! My OBD2 scanner does not do two-way communication, so I had to do the manual way. I'm gonna share the way I did mine, basically just an elaborated version of the instruction from techinfo website screenshot in the video. So here's what I did : 1. After jacking up the car, blocking front wheels and took off the rear wheel, I turned ON the car, released (disengaged) the E brake, and turned OFF the car. 2. Locate the EPB actuator (black plastic housing bolted behind the calliper). There should be two hex socket bolts holding the actuator, one in an obvious spot, the other one is hidden in the back. Unscrew those two bolts. 3. Take off the black actuator housing, securely hang it with a cord. 4. Use E11 Torx socket to turn the now visible spindle clockwise. This should be very easy to do, very little resistance, and when you feel it has come to a lock, stop turning. This completes the two steps mentioned on the techinfo website. 5. Do the brake pads/rotor replacement per Jay's other video. 6. After installing new pads/rotor and putting back the calliper, install the actuator back onto the calliper, you may want to re-grease the torx spindle. I also put some thread locker on the two bolts that hold the EPB actuator. 7. Turn ON the car, apply the parking brake (that's why in the very first step I released the parking brake first), and then release the parking brake again (note: when you release the parking brake, you're supposed to step on the brake, because you just did a brake job, you may need to press harder on the brake pedal than usual to be able to release the parking brake, at least this is what I found.) 8. Turn off the car, put wheels back on, torque the lug nuts to spec, and test drive your new brake. After doing this way I did not see any error message showing up, and the EPB functions normal. Hope this helps whoever is trying to do the manual way for the service mode. Good luck. And thanks again Jay for your video.

@eddystruth1011
@eddystruth1011 Жыл бұрын
Hello:! Thanks for a great video. I have a question to ask. Wouldn't be just easier to desingage EPB by pushing down the EPB activation/ deactivation lever inside the car's cabin after you put the car on jack stands ( rear wheels are lifted in the air). By doing that, you would NOT need a scan tool. Of course, you still need to retract the caliper further by using a special tool/ pliers.
@jaythemechanic4950
@jaythemechanic4950 Жыл бұрын
No, do not do that. You must put the calipers in service mode properly. When you are putting it in service mode, the piston is moved back even more than when the e-brake is disengaged. Otherwise you will cause error codes and possibly damage the pistons.

Hi Raspinder. Thank you for your question. Personally I have never had to face this problem because, I have always placed the calipers in service mode first. It is a possibility that your mechanic has damaged both of the calipers. I would take the car to either the Honda dealer or find a good mechanic that has a scanner that is capable of putting the EPB into maintenance mode and back to normal mode. Try that first and see if it resets the trouble light. Let me know what happens. What city/country are you in?

Hi Jay. I am hoping you read this comment soon. My question is related to the brake job once the maintenance mode is set in place using the scan too (which I do own one that that can do this). Once you begin the brake job are you still removing the electronic parking brake from the caliper? I assume yes. So the only thing the maitenance mode does is remove the need to manually turn the plate on the back on the back of the caliper with a torx socket, correct?
@jaythemechanic4950
@jaythemechanic4950 3 ай бұрын

And if that is correct, how do I retract the caliper with the parking brake assembly still attached?
@jaythemechanic4950

Ok. So when you use the scanner to put the ebrake into maintenance mode, the mechanism that engages when the ebrake is engaged will move away from the piston. Once it is in maintenance mode just do the brakes like you would otherwise. Just don’t forget to put it back into normal mode, otherwise your ebrake won’t work.
