How to set snaps: Snap Source setter +ring snaps & pearl snaps

Күн бұрынWe're talking how to set snaps in fabric using the Snap Source snap setter. I'll show you how to set ring snaps and pearl snaps in fabric. Snaps are a great no-sew option for those times you want to skip sewing buttonholes. Use snaps on diy baby clothes, bodysuits, knit tops, button down shirts and shirtdresses.

Hi could you please show us a way to put snaps onto an existing button shirt. I know the buttonholes are there but that would be covered by the shirt snap side. Would that be dumb? I pretty much don’t wear the shirts I have as they don’t have the snap. After my 4 favorite shirts am have the snap I want snaps on everything. I have a fabulous snap skirt and as sewing another one. I get tons of compliments on the skirt.

This might be possible. First obviously, you'd need to remove the buttons. Then you'd need to probably zigzag stitch over the buttonholes (5-6mm width, 1.0mm length) to close them up and make the area strong enough to hold the snaps, but then the process would be exactly the same. I'm not sure if the raised stitching from the buttonhole would cause the snap to set improperly, but it's worth a shot. You never know until you try.

Thanks Deana! I definitely would recommend this one. I've used the pliers and the anvil style and they're not my favorite with the exception that the Kamsnaps pliers are pretty novel and if you mess one up, they're super easy to take out a snap. I rarely have any issues with the snaps getting out of alignment with the Snap Source tool vs the others.

I have used this tool, it was pretty easy once I had the hang of it. I must have smacked it too hard tho, as I squashed the tool!

You must have LOL! Mine is a little scratched up but otherwise running strong after years. I do really like how the snaps end up aligned perfectly. I've ripped out so many badly set snaps with other tools!

wonderful video! If I wanted to use cap snaps, is it worth getting the setter or would it be better to get the pliers?

It's a matter of choice really. I've found that the setters do a more reliable job of lining up the snaps than the pliers plus they do not physically tax your hands like the pliers can.
