That timing light is older than dirt. Lol! I remember having a timing light like that about 50 years ago, I have the newer version that has a slide like clip that goes around the #1 sparkplug wire, I've been retired from auto-mechanic since 2007, they may have a newer version of timing light than what I have now, but they all serve the same purpose. These TBI engines are actually pretty easy to tune or do maintenance on, I personally think these TBI GM engines are the worst engines that GM ever came out with, the Vortex engines are much better, but the LS engines that GM built are far better.

Why would the fuel pump not run with advance wire disconnected and run with it connected. Another thing is what if one were to time one of these TBIs without unplugging the advance keeping in mind that the advance is about 20 degrees advanced when connected. So setting it to 0 and adding about 10 degrees by turning the distributor so total timing would be 30 degrees or so. How much total timing do these things like. The average for a sbc is around 32 to 34 degrees of total time at around 3200 3500 rpm but I ve read that these TBIs don't necessarily need that much total time due to the the fast burn swirl port heads. Any thoughts?

This method is theoretically good and correct, but practically in an engine like this after 30 years and more the markings on the poly are no longer accurate, therefore aiming at 0 degrees with the wire disconnected will not cause the engine to be correctly oriented.

How can tell which plug is the timing advance wire? My 94 k1500 has 4 or 5 of those and they all look the same.
@hhouser9783 Жыл бұрын
It should be brown with a white stripe. Check Google for a picture to verify.

@@hhouser9783 I think for 94 and 95 it's by the blower motor somewhere up under there lol. I won't get a chance to look till later this weekend.

What year and engine? Is is a truck or Suburban/Blazer?
@nolimitfano2 that should be a vortec engine if I remember right diffrent way of timing

@@adriantibbits6375it's not a Vortec engine. It's the last year of the TBI and they reengineered the firewall with the refresh of the interior.

@@nolimitfano2 I don't know exactly where yours is. It should be in the passenger side of the engine bay somehere. Some people are saying it could be by the computer behind the glove box.
