10:36 Hay get down from there. When I was young I climbed on the house alot. Then I discovered that when you get old you hear alot of cracking noises when you fall. So I refrain from climbing! lol Great video!

Nice job, just 2 simple tips I hope that will help in the future. When using the electrical tape you should always leave the last couple of inches not stretched and that stops it from wanting to unravel. And second use Black Zip ties Not White when installing stuff outside. Black zip ties are usually UV resistant and most White zip ties are not and will harden and become brittle and break off. Hope this helps. Doug VA3DFK Ottawa Ontario Canada

Thanks for the review. I’m working on putting one of these inside my very tall attic above the garage. Since we are on the top of a hill that I most of the county… just this elevation should give good coverage. Too bad about the f@&$g HOA!

Separate your antennas, you may or will have issues like de-sense / coupling. I also had my GMRS antenna on the same mast, but I ended up moving it where my directv dish was I pulled off he dish, clamped on to the base and put on several mast extensions with guy cables supporting it. I also had the MJF and Diamond surge protectors /arrestors , but ALL of my old hams told me about Alpha Delta. The extra cost is worth the investment, the quality is night and day. Many hams vouched for them having been taken a direct hit and near by strikes....but at the end of the day the main reason is to remove build up static from the mast. Not sure if you showed it, ground your mast also; it will pick up static and may cause damage to your station and be more likely for a direct strike.

I bet you get great coverage with that antenna. I know the Comet isn't tuned for GMRS, but I bet you won't get too much reflected power when you transmit into it. If that's the case, I'd be interested in the performance of the Comet vs the GMRS antenna in the GMRS band.

I just retired from my 46 year career as a Industrial Electrician. I also am a Ham Radio Operator. I advise you to wrap your Connections in News Paper or Similar before wrapping with sticky Tape. Keeps it from becoming Sticky when you remove it. I used Krylon Spray Paint for Plastics, Clear as my preventative maintenance although I plan to buy some Gel Coat for Fiberglass the next time I take it down. I also installed standoffs for my Coax.....

Nice installation and a good video Ray. I would agree with separating you antennas a little if you can. Your installation is clean, you described it well and I hope it does a good job for you. I was glad to see your son there the help. When working antennas especially when working on a roof, it is important to have a helper. If you can get your son involved, maybe it will be a good hobby you can enjoy together. 73s. WA4EOD

Just ordered the CX-333 today. Going to run a diplexer with 3 mono band rigs. Less antennas, and the ability to RX/TX 3 bands. Also set up a GMRS repeater @ my QTH. Gotta have comms for the rest of the fam that's not licensed 🙂 NICE, clean install. Separate your antennas about 20' if possible to reduce desensitization. Good to see more folks getting into GMRS! 73 de N3JDK/WRPH687

This is kc0rzk just to let you know that if a lighting strikes the antenna you will lose that whole chimney so you might put it up on the other side of the house with a push-up Pole where the pole is coming out of the ground they say it helps out a lot I got struck by lightning on my CB days and having the pipe come out of the ground helped out a lot just thought maybe I should come in there and say that

Thanks for the tips. I pick this location because it gives me better Coverage on getting my signal out. I live in the suburbs where there’s a lot of trees and other houses in my Vicinity of my house. So I’m playing the odds of ever getting struck by lightning. Thanks again for the advice. K2SDS 73

Do those straps scratch up your chimney bricks? What are you using below the mast to protect your roof shingles?
@DIYRAY
@DIYRAY 3 ай бұрын
No. They are designed for this purpose. Just use a piece of pressure-treated wood. In my case, I’m using a old scrap of vinyl flooring to protect the roof.
