Noise tip for those living above people (like apartments or condos) - build a platform with these layers (bottom up): Rubber / foam mat (to protect the floor), plywood, green glue, plywood, rubber / foam mat (to absorb sweat). It seriously makes a big difference in terms of sound transfer through the floor.

September 28th four year anniversary of getting hit by a car while riding. Then after I recovered from that had a retinal tear, twice. Recovery from that and then got Covid-19. Hospitalized for three weeks, almost didn’t make it. Lungs are extremely weak now. I am this close to getting back to riding again….as it turns cold 😂. Will definitely be on the trainer very soon. Desperately need a e-bike though to help me on the trails. Going to take a long journey to get back in shape. Thanks for the video and info!

John, So stoked your on the mend!! Your story inspiring, Im cheering for you from over here. I have found that the trainer is VERY helpful for getting back, I actually noticed that it helped speed up recovery from injury. Take it slow and steady and you will be back at it! Much Respect!

Go John! I came back from a 50' fall at work. Riding my bike was what got me though. You can go at different levels super slow on pavement at first then progress to where you want to be. Bikes are good medicine. Sounds like it's your turn for some good luck 👍 ☮☮☮☮

Cycling absolutely made my life better. Started out on a stationary exercise bike, moved on to a commuter ebike, then to a regular mountain and gravel bike, and I'm 130 pounds lighter.

Thanks for the video! These are great tips to which I can only add one and flesh out another. The one add: lights. It's dark AF so if you're training before or after working hours, you may want to find every available lamp. The bright light tricks my brain into being awake. On the topic of towels, I used to do a lot of hot yoga so I have a bunch of those towels with the grippy bits on one side. These are awesome for keeping the sweat off your bike. I fold mine so the grippy bit clings to the bike and the towel bit is on top.

I've been using zwift indoor for the past year (health reasons) and it's amazing. It's a great way to kill an hour or longer. I do recommend if you're going to do a longer ride to plan on taking breaks and having food ready. The rides are pretty tough, because even when you're going down hill, you're gonna want to pedal more than you might when you're outdoor. I also recommend doing an FTP test with it and linking with strava, so you can continue sharing your results with everyone.
@Outsideville

Taking breaks, even for a couple of seconds, is certainly something that I don't think about doing on the trainer. I really should, though. None of my IRL road or even gravel rides are uninterrupted for over an hour.

Dude you absolutely right. LA has terrible traffic, and riding my Wahoo Kicker is standard thing I do majority of time. I had so many close calls with Kickr I am absolutely safe in home and in fact Kickr gets me more workouts then any ride outside. With Rouvy I can explore all Ironman routes around world and no fear that an idiot will hit me in middle of ride. Yet, from time to time I had to take my bike and go out to keep my proficiency with real roads and curves and controlling bike.

So if just setting up a new indoor studio benefits of using your road bike or just investing in Peloton? Seems for the high end rear wheel attached it's about the same as the new Peloton price point, thoughts?
@afrothunder811
@afrothunder811 2 жыл бұрын
Any opinions on using a spin bike? I was thinking of the Schwinn IC4 for me to use with Zwift and for my wife to use with the Peloton app. It would be a compromise between what we each want.
@coreyreeder3549
@coreyreeder3549 2 жыл бұрын
I use a spin bike, but just a plain old model. I considered the IC4 but read that the power measures can be off and require calibration. So I found an old spin bike Marketplace or Craig’s list. I substituted some Favero Assioma power meter pedals (one sided) and it works perfectly. This setup is not “smart” in that it doesn’t change resistant; I do that manually. But it does accurately measure power. Bonus: in the warmer months I put the power meter pedals on my bike and I get more accurate outdoor training.

Next level up - big screen TV on the wall with decent speakers so you crank the music and feel the lava in Zwift. Towels wrapped on the hoods and sweat guard on the bike so you don't corrode the handle bars (been there and done that and it's ugly). And I think you're gonna need a bigger fan!

Don’t forget a sweet cover for bike. Amazon has a few version that work better than a towel that gets in the way and gets caught mid efforts…. Unless you want a rusty bottom bracket and head tube from all the sweat dripping on it for 3 months? Btw..l can me out of COVID lockdown so much stringer from all the structured training on Zwift that i smashed all my PRs on climbs ive been doing for years on my first two weeks of actual ridding. Ive since fallen back to my much slower times of course. Maybe i need to get back on structure plans . We have year round ridding here so i get lazy about garage sessions.

@@incidentshappen I used to ride a LeMond air resistance turbo trainer a few years back. I liked it a lot, the downside: VERY loud indoors, had to ride it in the garage. That was the reason I sold it. It was beyond the point of riding indoors, warming up the garage during cold winter before I warmed up on the trainer, only to put the fans on after the warm up. Such a waste and too much faffle, easier to just go out and ride in bad weather with mudguards. As basic as it was ( air resistance from a fan connnected to a flywheel, spin faster = more resistance) , the experience and feel of riding the LeMond trainer was miles better than my Tacx Neo 2T. This is just my opinion and experience obviously, ymmv.
