I know this video is over a year old but,I hope somebody can answer my question. I'm using a Steinberg UR242 interface but,I need more pre-amps. Do the drivers for the UR series support using multiple devices? If I get a UR44 or UR824,can I use either of them with my UR242 at the same time?

The best option on a PC is always to use one main interface and to connect to other devices via ADAT. On a Mac you can quite reliably connect multiple interfaces (either daisy chaining firewire interfaces, or plugging in all your USB interfaces) and then connecting them together by creating an aggregate device (the computer allows programs to access all of your interfaces as though they were one device). The alternative, the somewhat of a workaround on a PC (thus less reliable but should work just fine) is to install the Asio4All audio driver and use it as your main audio driver in your DAW. The Asio4All works just like the Mac Aggregate device, it allows the software your working on to recognize all of your connected interfaces as being one device, thus allowing access to all of your inputs and outputs. Link: www.asio4all.de/ Hope this helps.

The only UR series interface that has adat is the 824.

Yes, so if you're using a PC then you'll have to go the Asio4All route, If you have a Mac you can go the Aggregate device route. Otherwise you'll have to buy other interfaces that have ADAT.

Hi, I don't know if you'll ever respond to this question because this is a 2016 video. So I've been frustrated for months trying to solve this problem. I have 1 unit of UR824 and 1 unit of Focusrite Octopre dynamic mk ii. The input of both converters are working great, so I have 16 input in total. However, I couldn't get the extra 8 outputs from the ADAT. I realize that my ADAT is quite different from yours. Mine doesn't have any software or firewire connection (of course because it is an ADAT not an independent audio interface). So I was only be able to connect it via Optical In and Out without any extra software like you did. I use the Octopre as the master clock and UR824 as the slave. Do you have any advice for my routing? Thank you very much.

I have hooked up both of my Profire 2626 via Optic Ports A (in & out). They both talk to each other however I can not control the record level from the front knobs on my "standalone" unit. Meaning the knobs on the front do not affect the recording gain. Also I can only connect a mic that requires Phantom power on the instrument channels 1 & 2. I feel like I am doing something wrong? I am synching with Optic Port A. Can anyone share their routing settings?

Have you tried switching the Profires, meaning taking your master and making the slave, and the slave to be the master? The things you're describing sounds more like a mechanical/electrical problem and not a connectivity or software problem. But it's difficult to diagnose without being there to do some tests.

Hi...hope you are ok, i have a question please.. I use an Apolo Quad Firewire 800 There is 2 Adat IN and 2 Adat outs, that means that i can use one interface pluged ADAT on in 1 on the apollo to have 8 chanels and another interface in ADAT in 2 and have like this 16 chanels by ADAT? Or if i use ADAT in 1 the ADAT IN 2 its disable? Thank you very much

You will always have access to both ADAT inputs and outputs, using ADAT IN 1 for example will not disable ADAT IN 2.

Hey man, I watching this video a while ago and now I've actuallygot my interfaces I need some help. I've got 2 Blackbird Firewire interfaces and 1 Hercules Firewire. The blackbirds have ADAT in/out but the Hercules doesn't. If I set up Blackbird 1 to be the master, could I daisy chain the other interfaces to that one by Firewire? Also what's the best way to link them? As the Hercuiles only has s/pdif, but the blackbirds don't.
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 7 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Are you using a Mac or PC? With a Mac you can daisy chain multiple interfaces via firewire by creating an aggregate device in the main Apple audio settings. On a PC you have a workaround that does the same thing, it's called Asio4all. This emulates what the Mac aggregate device does, so you can daisy chain interfaces via firewire. Having said that, I think the utmost best option is to have one master interface, and connect to other interfaces and audio devices via ADAT and S/PDIF, simply because you don't have to mess around with Asio4All, or any aggregate device workaround. You're simply using the master interface as it was designed to be used, using it's dedicated software and then simply connecting other devices digitally, the way it was designed. Hope this helps. There's a lot of info on Asio4All for PC and Aggregate devices for Mac online.

Hello! Quick question: If i have (i dont and thats why the question) 2 Behringer UMC 1820, which has and ADAT in and out, for the computer to read the 16 channels, do i have to use an optical cable, link it from Device 1 output to Device 2 input and read Device 2 from my DAW while using only one USB connected to my computer? Did i explain it right? hehe

Angel Samper Wilson did u ever figure out of this works? I have a behringer but audacity only lets me record 2 channels at once. I need to be able to record 4 mics at once. I’ve been told the Behringer drivers don’t allow you to record 4 mics at once even though it’s got 4 XLR inputs
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 3 жыл бұрын
The Behringer UMC 1820 has 1 ADAT in and 1 ADAT out. Meaning, you can use one as a master, and send digital audio signal from the ADAT out of your slave Behringer and into the master ADAT in. This will give you up to 16 channels of audio at 44.1/48kHz

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank u in advance. I'm on PC btw

You can install as many drivers as you want, but you can only use 1 driver in Cubase and all the DAW's I know. For this reason, it would be best to choose one master interface, then use the other interfaces as slaves connected via ADAT. The other workaround is to use ASIO4ALL, which is its own dedicated driver, which you can select in your DAW, and then setup all your inputs and outputs in the ASIO4ALL software. But I wouldn't recommend that route, it is more likely to cause stability issues.
@3rdfloorstudio153
@3rdfloorstudio153 6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that ADAT requires you to designate one interface as a master and the other as a slave. This means that the clock source is your master, and the fiber optic ADAT connection will sync the clock source with your slave. So there shouldn't be a reason to connect word clocks when using ADAT. Can anyone confirm? Or am I just stupid? Lol
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 6 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand it, ADAT devices will either prompt you to make the choice as to which device is the master or it will just assume one as being the master. And yes, this means that the ADAT connection between the devices is the path in which the devices are being synced. However, if you're using the ADAT for sending and receiving digital audio, then your ADAT ports are doing two jobs, namely, sending word clock data and digital audio data. And I've been told by some engineers that what could happen is a degradation in audio quality, ranging from very minor imperceptible differences in quality (very slight and very minor clocking issues) to clicks and pops or other degradations in audio quality (very severe clocking issues). I've have devices that don't have word clock ports, and thus used only one ADAT port for receiving digital audio and the word clock signal, and I had no complaints, and never noticed any clicks or pops. I wasn't able to do A/B tests so I wouldn't be able to comment on the overall quality difference. My advice would be, if you already have devices that have word clock ports, and you already have word clock cables, then it doesn't hurt to use them as the main clocking source, then use your ADAT ports for nothing other than digital audio transmission. If you would have to buy another device, or buy cables, then I probably wouldn't worry about it. If you do notice clicks and pops and can narrow it down to a clocking issue, then spend the money/time and invest in a dedicated clocking source.

Hi, Im trying to sinc two interfaces, it's a UR824 and the behringer UMC1820 by ADAT, I've configurated it as you said (behringer as slave) but the ur824 don't recognize the interface and in the dsp mixer it doesn't come the signal, what can i do?

@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 5 жыл бұрын
First question, have you connected an ADAT cable from the UMC1820 output to the UR824 ADAT input? Also what do you mean by "the ur824 don't recognize the interface"? The only thing the UR824 will ever be able to see is the audio signal, so if that's what you mean then I understand. And which DSP mixer doesn't have a signal? The UR824 or the UMC1820? Related to this, does the UMC1820 software show audio input signals? Once everything is setup correctly, all you will need is USB to the UR824 because it's the master, and an ADAT cable from the output of the UMC1820 going into the input of the UR824. Your DAW will then get all the audio signals via the UR824 (up to 24 separate channels).

@@VintiqueSound hi thanks for your time, I've already done it, the behringer cant be slaved so I put it as a Master (behringer), just connected the behringer via usb and the ur824 clock as ADAT A and change the ADAT A OUT to ANALOGE 1-2...7-8 IN, disconnected the ur824 usb and it works The behringer dsp mixer is so cheap and you cant change the outs, so I dont recommend that interface if you wanted to be slave. By the way, that behringer is not mine, a friend want to record drums and wanted to expand the preamps lol thank you so much, I've learnd a lot from your videos!

Yes, the ADAT optical is the most universal way to connect multiple devices together. I was under the impression you can daisy chain 2 profires though, because there's two firewire ports on the back, and to my knowledge that's designed to be able to daisy chain.

Im having a issue doing this with my set up. I've got a apollo twin, a saffire pro 24, and a macbook osx. I want to use the saffire for additional mic inputs (wanting to use 3 mics, but the twin only has 2), but I can't simply connect the saffire to my computer bc my mac doesn't have firewire. I also can't figure out how to connect the saffire to the apollo and use the apollo as the master interface( that is the only interface directly plugged into the labtop). If anyone can share some insight or knows the easiest way to do this with my set up PLEASE HELP
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, your Saffire pro 24 and Apollo Twin do not have ADAT out, and if you don't have Firewire on your macbook, then there's no way you can connect both interfaces. The only way to get them connected is to somehow get a firewire adaptor so you can plug in both the Apollo & Saffire into the macbook, then you can setup an "Aggregate Device" in the Mac Audio Settings. This creates a single audio driver using multiple interfaces which will give access to all your inputs/outputs within your DAW.

old interface is the alesis master control new interface is RME fireface ucx
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 7 жыл бұрын
I'd say it simply depends on the quality of the components of the old interface. The RME firefaces are all really good quality, but I've had trouble with one of their oldest models. Then there are cases where brand new interfaces don't have as high quality of components as some interfaces from 4 - 8 years older. Essentially what's going to happen is the RME will convert your audio using its Analog to Digital converter, then send that digital signal to your Alesis. From there it sends the digital audio signal into your computer. In this sense your Alesis is going to be the bottleneck, meaning your audio quality is only going to be as good as your Alesis can handle taking your ADAT signal and sending it into your computer. The other thing is that your Alesis would be your main interface meaning it's also the main word clock device, and again the stability and accuracy of the audio signal and monitoring will only be as good as the Alesis components allow it to be. Search this webpage for more details on your Alesis and come to some conclusion if you like: www.soundonsound.com/reviews/alesis-master-control My advice is as follows. If the ability to direct monitor using your Alesis is a very important part of your workflow, then I would sacrifice the slim but potential degradation in Digital signal processing and word clocking. Chances are there's only going to be a very small amount of degradation if any at all. If the direct monitoring is not important at all to your workflow then maybe consider using the RME as your main since it is guaranteed to have high quality components and would be less likely to cause any degradation at all. Hope this helps.

hello, i pretend to buy two Hallen & Heath ZEDi-10FX mixers (quality and price) for live mixing and multitrack recording to be processed at my laptop (Windows 7, 32bits) with Cubase. would it be possible to get the 4+4 tracks to be opened at Cubase for this purpose with something like ASIO4All or Voicemeeter Virtual Audio Mixer?
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure what the correct answer is, but here's what I think might be true. The ZEDi-10FX doesn't have any ADAT ports, so you won't be able to hook it up in the way that I describe in this 3 part video. As far as ASIO4All goes, I'm pretty sure that you can hook up any combination of different audio interfaces, whether it's USB or Firewire, or whatnot. You'll just have to make sure you're always selecting ASIO4All as your main driver in Cubase or whatever program you're using. It would also be just as easy to just buy a bigger mixer that has more channels but still USB input and 8 or more channels available via USB connectivity for multi-track recording. Personally I wouldn't like to have two separate mixers just to get more channels. Checkout: PreSonus StudioLive AR16 USB Mixer Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK Midas Venice U16 I haven't used Voicemeter Virtual Audio Mixer before, but I can look into the ASIO4All a bit more if you like.

Vintique Sound yes, aggregate devices are easy, but like Asio4All, it causes latency. Having a thunderbolt interface with a daisy chain feature is the best option, but since I have USB, I'd like an alternative option.

I don't know what daisychain is
@VintiqueSound
@VintiqueSound 7 жыл бұрын
Daisy chaining essentially means the same thing as connecting things in series. Where you have one firewire cable from your computer to the master interface, then you connect one firewire cable from the master interface to the slave interface. It's in series as opposed to in parallel. Parallel means you'd be connecting the computer to each of the interfaces separately, but this would require two firewire ports on the computer (you can do this if you have two ports, but you'll have to daisy-chain if you only have one).
