here's a quick video on how to set up the timing using a tool kit .
the timing chain had been replaced due to it slipping on the tension luckily the engine wasn't damaged however it did throw timing out .
the kit was purchased from eBay.

Great video mate, keep them coming. You may want to put your video into playlists e.g Tiling, Vauxhall.Corsa etc so that your viewers can find and watch all your videos easier👍🏼.

I’ve just fixed my gfs Corsa (A10XEP)…blown head gasket, warped head, timing had slipped, chain stretched, guides broke, tensioner broke, valves needed reseating, waterpump gasket had blown. Anyway, fixed it - watched this video whilst working out the timing. Noticed the engine has a ticking noise, but just listened to your engine and it sounds identical…which is excellent news - unless you tell me otherwise :p

@@handyandyuknow the Corsa sounds like a bag of spanners and misfiring. Fault code P0107. Checked everything I can, hoping it’s just the sensor. Imagine if when the sensor arrives, i put it on and the car sounds sweet…I don’t see it happening. I see a huge headache coming on! Wish me look :)

Hey pal great video, I’ve got the same kit as you, see when you set up the cam sensor plate, did you just centre the mark on the tooth as best as or did you line it up to the left or right of the tooth? Any help would be greatly appreciated

So how can you move the camshaft independently from it's sprocket...are they not 'keyed' together ? Slightly confused and any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Just subscribed.

@@handyandyuk Hi, and thanks for the reply. What I meant was, is the sprocket able to turn independently from the crankshaft...is it just held in a 'fixed' position by the tightness of the sprockets centre bolt ? I have since learned that it is. Done the timing with the 'kit', but the car cranks over but will not start. Got a so 'called' technician to look at it and he couldn't find the fault...after paying him £60 for nothing. At point of giving up. Have replaced the crankshaft sensor, made no difference. I have replaced the mains and connecting rod main bearings from underneath the car and just don't need a cowboy coming out and continually cranking the engine over with new bearings installed whilst getting insufficient lubrication. I will now try and investigate the fuel supply and injectors...and if this is ok I'm lost. Thanks again for kind reply and your helpful video.

Hi there mate great video I replaced the Cylinder head gasket on my astra mk5 1.4 z14xep which I believe is the same as this engine. I didn't do the timing chain my freind did it he put the chain on and did the timing. He turned the engine over i said to him it had no compression. I think the timing is out by 180 degs i realised this video is an old video. If it was out by 180 the exhaust valves would be open instead of the inlet am i correct in thinking i have done cambelts but never done a chain. When I turn the engine over nothing is hitting its not locking up just dont hear any compression. Thanks in advance

Hi, Back in day before the ECU took over. It would have backfired if it was wrongly set up I.E. inlet valves and outlet the opposite way round, as you still get compression. A chain essentially replaces a belt and does the same thing make sure it's turning and the right time in sequence. It needs checking throughly to make sure everything is correct. Compression needs checking and if you absolutely have nothing then that may idicicate problems elsewhere. These do have a lot of sensors that control timing for fuel . The cam sensor for instance if that's not picking up it won't start . I think when i started my corsa first time it spluttered into life as the cam sensor was off slightly. If you have changed or intend to change any of the sensors buy decent ones I bought some off ebay because they were cheaper and they made the cars and vans I've have run worse .. So my advice is to go through the work done and check everything and narrow it down it may be something as simple as a sensor ..

@@handyandyuk I did the head gasket on it. I am mechanic myself but more used to cambelts than chains I looked today at I put a live out on my channel if you want to have a look see if you can notice anything you think looks wrong thanks for getting back to me

@@handyandyuk The reason I did the head gasket was it was leaking but turned out to be the timing chain Gasket.

You can do it the old fashioned, setting it at top dead centre but using a long screwdriver at the top of cylinder one piston. Once it start to go back down you know your at too dead centre. But I would really look to get a timing kit because the issues caused by this going wrong is not worth it.

There is a tdc mark on the belt pulley which should line up with a mark on the front cover. lining this up first will put the camshafts near the correct position so that you can lock them with a flat metal plate or bar. Once the cams are locked you can scribe a line across the chain case edge onto the ignition trigger pulley so that you can line it back up afterwards. With the chain and tensioner fitted but both cam pulleys loose you can refit the chain cover and front pulley then line the ignition trigger back up before holding & torquing the cam sprocket bolts.
