The cockpit on your mountain bike is comprised of your handlebars, grips, stem and brake levers. It's basically your touch points, your controls that you need in order to pilot your mountain bike on the trail.
So you best make sure it's set up properly!

A tip on bar width: If you have locking-grips with open ends you can push them inward to simulate narrower bars before cutting them.

I would like to think about making sure that while the brake lever setup you should check to make sure that your levers do not hit the top-tube when your bars dump the bike.

When you set your brake levers you make the comment of aiming for a straight line wrist elbow etc. However one look at the video shows you have nothing like a straight line through your wrist. Your brake levers are in the very fashionable 'flatter is better' position. Interesting that you say you want them to be straight/neutral but they aren't? Thoughts? Thanks.

My brake levers are set up so that I can only one finger brake, but now I can't reach my shifters without sliding my hand across to shift. I've tried moving the shifters to the outside of the brake lever but that results in me not being able to brake. Does anyone else face this problem? Or are my fingers just unnaturally short :/

I have a RR520 Btwin MTB, and I only get to ride trails on weekends. I mostly use my bike for daily commute to work which is about 11 kms. How to I setup my bike or an MTB in general to optimize for daily long rides mostly on tarmac roads. I often experience pain in the wrist joints with the current setup. Please advise.

How do you know if your brake lever perches will fit a different set of bars when you want to switch to a new clamp diameter handlebar? I have 25.4 mm diameter bars and would like to switch to 31.8 or 35 but I’m not sure if my brake lever perches would fit.

I'm test riding two bikes - both XL sized. The geometry says the Transition Smuggler actually has a longer reach than the Santa Cruz Bronson, but it feels longer when I rode it. I realize one is a 29er (Smuggler) and the other is a 27.5 Plus (Bronson). The 27.5 Bronson feels larger and has: 3 spacers under the stem and 800mm long bars. Would lowering the seat post, shortening the bars to 785, and pulling the spacers out shorten the reach? I'm just trying to see if I can get the Santa Cruz Bronson to fit better. I'm 6'1" and right in between both manufacturers L and XL sizes. Thanks!

dusan posavac that's what this channel does now. it's hard to produce new content 7 days a week over such a small niche. they just redo the same concepts over and over and people eat it up. it's great that people find it as good content, but for those of us that have been long time subscribers, this stuff is stale and boring now.

It should have been explained that presented brake lever position is not optimal at all for Scotty and only used for the purpose of the video. Lowered seat, seated position equals knackered wrists during most demanding attack position and brake levers at very incorrect position..
