Beef to settle in China Vlog #57 • "BEEF IN CHINA TO SETT...
2 months ago, a Bboy in China made a disrespectful online post about me. So I responded and said, Ill come to his city by myself and battle him.
Today I fullfilled that vow. Despite me being 39 years old, way past my prime, and busy with both business and daddy duties, i wanted to show China what a true battle is, and how a Bboy should be.
If you got beef, BATTLE!!! A few rounds in a comp is not a real battle. A battle goes until you got nothing left. No moves, no energy or no more ego. THATS WHAT ITS ABOUT.
We arent putting on a performance, we arent trying to impress anyone, we are trying to just humiliate our enemy. Thats what its about.
After our battle, we earn eachothers respect. In Bboyin, propper respect is EARNED, not freely given. I know the points he got me in, and I know the points where I got to him too!
All i know is during that battle i was like dang hes kinda rippin it but that Bboy in me kept steady and quick responding, no matter how tired i felt inside. In the end he tried to quit, but i wouldnt take his hand until I was the one who went till the end.
And in the end, we shook hands, knelt down as he gave me a sincere apology and explained what he was going through in his life and why he did what he did. He said he was sorry, he respects me and loves me.
Hiphop can only achive peace love and unity through battle.
At night I invited them to my room and we ended up praying together for eachother and for the entire Bboy community!!

That was good and buddy has some skill but he needed to learn where so of his moves came from. I see a lot of bboys out in China need to respect the older bboys and there moves that they are using. Also Dyzee was smart with short rounds to the point for stamina at the end to wear him out a bit.

Dyzee, I was really touched by this battle man. It showed so much about the love and struggle for the dance, and in the end, the respect you had for each other. I literally teared up when the Chinese bboy bowed to you and told you how much of a hard time they were having in China and why he had to call you out. This clip was deep on so many levels. Battling each other is not a negative thing but only a means to grow, connect, and develop for the dancer. On top of that, watching it being adapted to other cultures still blows my mind to this day. You're a true ambassador of bboying Dyzee. Thanks for sharing this clip and I wish you all the best in the pursuit of your goals and dreams. Peace & Respect.

One more thing. I loved the subtext you wrote during the battle. I think that's one of the best ways to promote bboying because it can sometimes be so esoteric for the lay person, but if they can learn that there's a language and a method behind the madness, it would shift peoples paradigm. I think you're onto something and I encourage you to keep doing that and take the subtext to the next level. I think it could be funny and super informative. In addition to that, if you could interview people and have a commentary track where the dancers are escribing what they were feeling and going through during the battle, or what their strategy was during the battle and in the moment, that would be friggin amazing.

I think people need to stop testing Dyzee he’s a real bboy one of the freshest combing out of the USA. I know he wasn’t at his best in this battle but while Relax was looking around waiting for somebody to call time. Dyzee was just focused on his opponent. Plus Relax was chewing that gum that gives energy and he warmed up before the battle. Come on bruh!

answering moves with similar moves isn't a feasible or wise strategy in high profile competitions (like bc ones), i mean u can't really answer with similar moves somebody like pocket, or a very original bboy in a bc one, better to stick with ur own material, plus, in the 80s there were like a 100 moves in bboying, now there are 100 million moves, that being said, it's really beautiful when it's done in a cypher, such a nice conversation going on, very few bboys do that nowadays, conversations in bboying are becoming a really rare sight.

You are right. In a competition, its better to do what you are good at in hopes of winning a judge. Alieness was the first to point this out as a strategy in his book "The Art of Battle". This is the reason why the O.U.R. system has an entire category called "Cypher" which is dedicated to the cypher mentality of busting egoes and 1 upping your opponent. Judges need to account for Bboys who are truly battling rather than just showcasing their moves and styles

The reason why this battle seems different is because its a real battle, despite we being calm and laughing about it, it was real. Not no 2 or 3 rounds, but it was till the end when we got nothing left (moves, stamina or ego) Hope that more battles around the world can be like this where you dont need a judge to tell you if you won or lost. In the end, you both will know what points you won and lost in.... and thats how respect is earned

Dope shit. respect to both. Out of intrest how can you say those moves are yours? Lots of transistions are really obvious when you break, like few of these threads. And yes they originaly came from someone, but not everybody is looking at you specificly and becomes inspired making these moves. No beef intended just curious, maybe i'm missing some history. Elaborate please :)

Hey good question. The reason why i say those Threads and transitions are mine, is because 20 years ago, i literally created those moves, and brought them into the breakin scene. I was the only one doing them. However, i understand that my moves have now become part of the Bboyin foundation. I get that, and im quite honored. However when someone throws my move at me, ill be sure to point out that they are using moves that i created. It would have been different if he threw a move he created which he did... the headspin on the back of his hand. I come from a generation that only used moves that they flipped or brought into the game when serving their opponent. And I didnt call him a biter, i was just pointing out the irony of throwing a move at someone not knowing where the move came from. It would be like me throwing a 2 step at an OG and he saying, "your using the move that i created and i bet you dont even know!"

Dyzee, this was an awesome battle and video. Thank you for sharing! I love the “thought” comments you edited in; very enjoyable to know what you are thinking at certain times. Btw, much respect at 39; your bboy skills are amazing. Keep it up and maintain! I have a question that is slightly off topic. I wanted to know your opinion / thoughts about how judges judge. For example, let’s say you have bboy Cheerito vs bboy Vero, or just two different technical / style of bboys. How do judges judge battles like that? Where you have two bboys that have totally different bboy styles; can they actually respond to each other’s moves? I’m really curious on what you think about this. What I’m saying is that some bboys have some creative styles. Each opponent may have an arsenal of creative moves with high difficulty and originality. Judges may favor or be biased towards a certain style. Must be hard to be a judge at times. Im also curious to know if you think bboys /bgirls with certain styles that battle each other will be fair. Obviously Bboy pocket(power head) vs Bboy kizuki Rock wouldn’t be a a fair battle to judge. Should battles be matched with similar styles of bboys to be a fair battle is what I’m saying. Because the communication between opponents will be hard and the battle wouldn’t be as entertaining. Thank you for listening. Would def love to hear your thoughts on this and shed some light.

Hey man. Great question. I guess first thing to point out is that 1 or 2 rounds isnt a real battle. A real battle goes until someone has nothing left. No stamina, no moves or no ego. So thats why its really impossible to objectively judge an unfinished battle. 2ndly, bboy contest are inherently BIASED. so ofcourse people will favor a certain style, or alliances definitely play a part of it. But for a few that truly want to be 'fair" and care about "justice" they usually judge based on gut feeling. As for me, i truly judge 1 or 2 round battles as if they are actual real cypher battles. 1st person asks a question, 2nd person needs to reply and have a stronger answer. Confidence plays the biggest part for me. If two opposing styles go at it, the 2nd person needs to clearly beat the 1st person to take the win. I usually want to see more rounds but i know its not really fair to the bboys battling

yo Dyzee, many props man. Thats how true bboy settle things up....lots of props as well for Relax man. I got a question tho, something thats been on the back of my mind for a while. What u think about bboys that mid battle get "too touchy"? I know what I mean? Like, using the opponent as support and such(Issei vs Dr. Hill, Gravity on Hong10, Morris that almost hit Vero on the head, etc) I am hearing a lot of guys talkin that thats part of battle....but when I started bboying on late 90`s....that was a big no-no. So...whats up with that now? Respect and love from Japan, peace!

Definitely its a no-no... but then again, only makes sense if you are looking for a fight. Breakin came from the streets so its always just a disrespectful touch away from a fight. So touching has no place in a competition

Nice. Also the talk on the end whas good. Only wondering if your saying that shoulder treads it's your move, you mean a specific combo ore in General? Because a shoulder tread itself myself bin doing this since midninetees ore something, before I even know people where calling this threads. I got inspired by Wiggles doing it in some documentary standing up with his popping. At that time I didnd know even he whas experimenting himself with it in to breaking and call it's spidermanstyle ore something?. I didn't even know than he whas breaking. Now you can find it ofcource back on the internet so all the information is there, but than it whas different as you know. Anyway nice footage and love this videos you put out there.

Yeah i think there may have been people who did a thread on their shoulders, but the sytle of doing endless threads on the ground "and continuos threading on shoulder" was my concept i created in the early 2000s. But the continuous floor thread style originated in Toronto in the early 90s by rival crews like bag of trix, supernaturalz and boogie brats

Always interesting and inspiring. Next year I'm getting 49 and still try to stay active and music and watching things like this and younger bboy keeps me going. @@DyzeeDiaries thanx. As a child I whas mostly into all this tapdance musicals. Singing in the rain I see mabey just as many times as beat Street. So Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire,Nicolass Brother's. And than 80tees like most I guess: Rock steady(Crazy Legs, Kuriaki) New York City Breakers, magnificent Force(icey Ice) who gave me props at bboy pro am I think 2000 in Miami.(nice to get that from a childhood superhero😉) ,Boogaloo shrimp,popping Taco etc..also some of my friends I went to school with(the place you where giving your workshop, use to be my school in the 80tees, and we practice in the Hallway) big inspiration whas a guy named David a Dutch/ Indonesian guy. He already had a great form in his downrocks and for that time around 1984/85 good moves like handcuffmills and good headspin. Also from around 1987 till 1991 I did a lot of stand up hip-hop still mixing it with floorwork and I whas inspired by dancers like Stezo,Scrap and scoop lover, The Soul brothers from Def Jeff and Kool G Rap his dancers. Also local dancers called supersoniccrew. 1988 when I pretty much thought breaking whas dead I met Rock city crew from London and also they where on a level I didnd see before. But the biggest boost to start training hard on breaking again came from me in 1991 when I met Sonny Tee from Germany. I whas than with a hip-hop crew called Zombi Squad. We where rapping, djing, dancing and had Graffiti on stage from quick from New York who started living in Groningen. Sonny introduce me to bboys like Storm,Swift Rock, Speedy etc. He inspired me also to mix more of my stand up thing to mix it with breaking.
