How to Setup a Default Template for New Documents in Microsoft Word

In this Microsoft Word tutorial, I will teach you how to set up a default template so that when you create a new Word document, it will automatically be set to whatever settings you prefer, including font size, margins, and so on. I'll show you how to set up a normal.dotm file. This way, you don't have to keep making changes every time you create a new document.
Ellen from Gulf Shores, Alabama (a Platinum Member) asks: Microsoft just updated Office and they set the default font to this new Aptos, which I don't like. How can I get back Calibri without having to change it for every new document I create? This is annoying. Help.

Thank you for the video! It was really helpful. One thing - I have 365 and although I followed your instructions it still saved the new template in a different templates folder. However all I had to do was find the normal template's and the new template's folders and move the latter into the correct folder, so I could delete the old normal and rename the new one as you say.

Once in a blue moon I get the urge to change the normal template to my preferred settings, so every time it involves a slightly different process (as Office changes every so often...) It's been a while since my last time, but thanks to you, Richard, now I know how to do it for the current version of Word... 🙂👍

Very useful video. Thank you. Is there a way to go straight to the classic save as dialog box when you press save or save as? I hate that I have to go through two different dialog boxes to get to it where in older versions of Word you didn't have all this bloat.

Hi, great vid. Thank you. Why is it trying to save to on drive. When typing in your recommendation. it takes me to the MS folder but there's no default template. I assume its because i am using 365? many thanks
