@@GBWM_CNC Here's the video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nd-jZ7aByqy3Zok.html I get it working. Thanks once again. Is there a way to enable the drive only when it is not at idle status? I mean I'll use it as spindle motor on my CNC lathe. Currently the servo is always enabled and (engaged). I'd like to have it disabled when no program is running. So what I need is simply a soft enable.

Thanks for your swift and helpful reply. I'm setting up mine in analogue mode 0-10V & no reverse. The lathe has a screw on chuck, so reverse is disastrous! I tried Step & Dir on spindle, I could get it working as an axis drive, but couldn't work out how to configure it with mach3 turn & pokeys57 for a spindle. Feedback from pokeys "Unfortunately, PoKeys devices do not support step/direction controlled spindle motors. You can still connect the spindle motor as the A axis" . Once I got that news, it was a bit of a deal breaker with the pokeys board. and will be looking for something else in the future. So, I switched plans and set up as analogue 0-10V for now. It is working, but, as yet haven't got the encoder feedback sorted. The manual recons it needs 5v+ using pins OZ & ground - if I'm reading it correctly. I wired it directly to the pokeys fast encoder and nothing's working yet.

I have a question of programming that servo motor. I would like to use "Position control(external pulse)setting flow chart". Additionaly i want on start that it rotates and find end-switch. So flowchart i want is like that: 1. POWER ON, 2. Rotate till end-switch is not found, 3. Hold position, 4. When START switch is pressed rotate for X times. 5. Hold position when destination is reached So i would use 2 inputs on driver and 1 output. INPUT 1 - end switch, INPUT 2 - start switch, OUTPUT 1 - pulse for destination is reached. Could be this done? If you could help me i would be more than thankful!

I think this could be done with a S7-1200 PLC which has the function called "motion control" - I'm not sure if this could be done without it. You could feed the PLC with the inputs/outputs and generate the external pulse for the servo driver to perform the motion you need.

For analog 0-10V control, does it requires a separate power source to enable/disable the motor? Also when the control voltage is at 0v, does it allow you to rotate the motor shaft manually? I bought the same driver/motor a couple of years ago, played with it a bit using the built-in LED panel but couldn't figure out how to disable the braking feature so that it works like a regular motor - ie, allow you to rotate the shaft freely when it's not running and spin down slowly when you stop it instead of doing a hard brake. I just bought a -+0-10V generator, but wanted to know first before I try it. Also do you have links to the English PDF manual as mine came with a Chinese manual. Thanks
@GBWM_CNC

I've got no possibility to check now. I think there is a enable pin in the driver which allows you to "disable" the motor - then you can freely rotate the shaft with hand. Or at least.. How to stop servo , and make sure it is zero speed
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC 3 жыл бұрын
@@shwanzery657 Check Pn164 and Pn165 in servo manual. There is a function called "zero clamp" which I think refers to shaft zero speed holding. If I get it right (I have no possibility to check it now) I think you should do Pn164 to 1 - this should activate Pn165 command. And the Pn165 command sets the value of speed (rpm) below which the motor should stop to 0. So if you set this command to 6rpm - the motor will stop when you set your rpm by your voltage below 6rpm. That's how I think it should work. Also there is a ZeroLocK function when you put Pn164 to 0 and send voltage to one of the SigIn ports but I can't find any information how to set one of the sigIn ports to ZeroLocK function. I hope this helps

Thanks for sharing this video! I'm trying to make up my mind on whether to go for hybrid steppers or AC servos to upgrade my CNC. The second choice scares me a bit as I am not sure I'll be able to set them up correctly. I've a question on AC servos that maybe someone could address, do they always draw the nominal power (e.g.750w) even when they are stationary or move with little load or the current drawn increases with load? As the electricity cost is rising everyday in not sure if hybrid steppers would be more efficient energy-wise.
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! AC serwos as well as other motors draw the more current the bigger the load is (so these need more torque to maintain the speed). So yes - the current drawn increases with the load. I'm actually adding these motors to my milling machine and I will share some details about the configurations to use these with an actual machine - not just on the desktop :)
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
Also - my choice is the ac servos as these seem not to bee so expensive if you consider that you need to buy a power supply for each hybrid stepper. These can be power supplied with 230V or 400V (depending on the model).

@@patrickneal8691 its the best thing ever, I got another 1.8kw servo for my g0602 and I got it tuned so perfectly for rigid tapping I tap nice and slow only at 200 rpm, other motors dont have enough torque to do that so they have to hit it at 600rpm to keep from stalling out. I use peck tapping/deep hole tapping on everything just because I like it, like on a 1-20 I tap .1/2 rotations, then back out. if I were you, I would get out of that pokeys, they have a glitch on the m04 relay that arturo couldnt fix because pokeys is the prob. I went through 2 m16 boards and spent 2 years going crazy trying to get it going for rigid tapping, and mach 4 has soo many issues, i spent 10 years with mach 4, I've had 2 pokeys 57e boards, and nothing but problems. I love the acorn, its expensive though for mill pro software, and lathe pro software, and 2 acorn boards, but it's the best ive used, and everything works really well, ive had absolutely no problems, and it's easy and simple to learn. I wish I had started out with acorn, but i sure learned a lot going with pokeys 57e/smoothstepper/m16d, and now acorn; over the last 10 years. i like acorn because they make the board, and the software. its industrial quality. ive thrown away twice the cost of 2 acorn setups fooling around with everything else, and it almost made me hate cnc altogether because of bad experiences. if you want to know my settings for the 1.8kw then I can share it with you. I don't do public videos. im using a signal isolator to overcome the floating ground issue on the driver for the1.8kw motor, and running it with analog 0-10v positive for CW and polarity reverse for CCW rotation. and I use 4 relays opto isolated to reverse polarity on the 0-10v analog, and those 4 relays are controlled by one of the relays on the acorn, and when the relay is off; then the 4 relays send NO polarity, but when the relay comes on, then all 4 relays open, and close normal polarity, and open reverse polarity, and before it goes through the relays, it goes through a kbmm or kb something or other, cant remember off hand. get it on ebay for $45 each, otherwise you pay $200 each. signal isolator so that the floating ground is not an issue. are you using your servo with step and dir, or 0-10 analog? have a good one, and message me if you need help.

The brake resistor is only in that case, you spin heavy weight with big inertia, and stop fast. so the servo works as an gernerator. the voltage can go higher than the originate voltage, so the resistor deals with the power. if you have an spindlescrew, you have not enough inertia to go into problems. using as an circular saw with 400mm dia and 3000 rpm, you shoud use the resistors, when power off, or emergency stop or full break. that can easily get voltages above 1000 volts. in best cases your controller will be grilled, even burn. think if it can be more worse, it comes along.

Actually I would like to use it for rigid tapping too, but i can't really figure out how. What i understood so far, is that i need to use step/dir and some relays for negative voltage. But i really don't know how and which one's. When i set step/dir, i only heard a clicking noise of the drive, but no moving. I couldn't even set this successfully. Could you give me a short instruction how to do this? I would be really glad if you could give me some help on that. Thanks in advance

Personally I tried using threading with mach3 and I wasn't succesfull with it. I tried it on my lathe. Actually threading needs an encoder on the spindle which counts the exact RPM of the spindle and adjust the feed speed on the axis doing the feed movement during the threading operation. Mach3 uses only index signals for threading which is not the best in my opinion. LinuxCNC is capable of using spindle encoders and it works quite well on my CNC lathe so it should be good on a router as well - maybe it would be worth trying. For this method you don't need step/dir. It uses just forward / reverse direction of the spindle and like I said - it adjusts the feed to the rotational speed of the spindle. I made some videos on my channel on the topic of threading on LinuxCNC (it works with the cheap parallel port 5 axis breakout boards).

What is the difference between a servo motor and a step motor?
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC 2 жыл бұрын
Stepper motors movement is like 1 step per 1 pulse (constant angle of rotation). Usually steppers dont have encoders. Servo motors uses the encoder to check if the position is right and if the position is not perfect - it changes the shaft position constantly. From our view it works pretty the same but it works really diffetent. Also servos are usually more precise and the parameters these offer are usually better too. And the servos cost more.

Maybe a little steel too, but that is secondary. The frame will be thick steel (except Z axis) like the ShopSabre ones. The X axis will be around 150 kg with the Z axis. Planning to use the ShopSabre's technique for anti-backlash with the rotated ball screw sollution. ( 2x1kw Y motors) The gear ratio will be 1 cycle / cm for the motors. So the axis's speed can be around 42 cm / sec. The resolution for the motors that way is around 0.002mm. @@Bodni Sounds great! I think 2x1kW servos for 1 axis is a lot of power. Necessarily the mill has to be mounted well on the geometrical side so there is no resistance on the guides of the axis which is the biggest problem in my opinion. Also on cutting metals the mill has to be rigid (especially for steel). It's hard to make a wood/steel mill as usually wood needs a lot of rpm on the spindle while steel needs lot of torque when cutting. Also when you want to use ballscrews for such long axis you have to consider ballscrew whip phenomenon. At this moment I made just one cnc mill (you can see on other video) for wood cutting and it performs quite well but when it comes to big routers - I didn't make any for now so I can't give you much hints. My next project will be a mini CNC lathe for steel so hopefully i will learn more about the CNC stuff as I really enjoy it. I wish you best luck and I hope you will share your machine later!

I learned a lot from here, and I vant to give something back. And on the other hand it is basically free self-advertise. (all my savings will go to this machine, so I will better document ewerything :D ) About the Ballscrew whip: I found an elegant sollution: The ballscrew is stationary, and the ball nut is spinning by the motors. That way there are no whip, and the ballscrew's innertia force is basically non existent. ( will be a bit tricky to build it tho' ) that way I can use a 4m long ballscrew with a thinner (cheaper) diameter. the trick is using 2 ballnuts for zero backlash, or a preloaded one. I'm now at the planning phase, I'm re-modelling now i think the 4th time, cause I'll daily learning something important about the subject. And cause all my savings going to this project I want to be thorough with everything. Wish you too the best! Keep up the good work! :)

@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC 3 жыл бұрын
A czym chcesz sterować ten silnik? Bo aby wykonał jeden obrót musi na wejściu sterującym dostać odpowiednią ilość impulsów która będzie odpowiadać jednemu pełnemu obrotowi wału. Można to wykonać zarówno na sterowniku cnc, arduino jak i plc

Hi there! great video but i still have a question. For manual speed control do you need like a 10k potentiometer or a pwn of sort's ?
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC 3 жыл бұрын
Depends if you need smooth regulation. If you need just some speeds like 200, 500 and 2800 rpm then you can use internal speed commands and pop them up by using input command signals. If you need smooth regulation then you will need some kind of voltage source for example using an potentiometer (I used a voltage divider made with a potentiometer).

@car9167 3 жыл бұрын
@@GBWM_CNC Yes. So I'm able to use it dual model speed and position but can't find a way to align the spindle for let's say a tool change. I could not find a way to have the shaft move a certain number of pulses relative to the Z index from the encoder. I can stop the shaft from an external REF signal coming into one of the SIGin pins but is not guaranteeing a certain absolute position from the REF signal occurrence. I know some of the real spindle drives allows you to input a number in the driver which gives the rotation angle relative to a Z position index so when it's stopped from rotation goes into that position. I was hoping these servos will do the same but apparently not
@GBWM_CNC
@GBWM_CNC 3 жыл бұрын
@@car9167 Honestly I don't think it has such a function. For spindle driving the speed mode is probably suitable but for toolchange I'm not sure. Btw are you talking about a standard pneumatic ATC or rotating the spindle for a drawbar tool change? Also I'm thinking of if there is a function that would let the servo put in certain speed or step/dir when a SIGin pin is activated - then the spindle could be controlled by the CNC controller as an additional CNC axis.
@car9167
@car9167 3 жыл бұрын
@@GBWM_CNC There is a way to run the servo dual mode speed/positioning. You assign the Cmode command on an Sigin pin. You out the Vref voltage on the two pins and drive it in speed. When voltage is 0 the motor is stopped and you can use the Cmode to switch to positioning. By feeding steps on the positionling lines it moves like a positioning servo driven by steps. You can switch back and forth. I just tested yesterday with my 3.8KW servo. I have the same drive as yours just bigger. I was planning to use it as spindle drive. I have a BT40 spindle. If interested in this dual mode I can share the configuration just let me know

I have this CNC controller for 5 axis www.szghauto.com/product/66.html I can use one of the axis to drive the servomotor as a spindle. I can do orientation in software and drive the servo with the two quadrature signals. The issue is I lose an axis and I was planning - long term - to have my CNC run with 5 axis. This controller has the software and IO pins for an ATC as well. It can also use one of the axis to drive the ATC itself. Again you will lose an axis doing that. But it can be done externally without using an axis

Miałem kiedyś taki kłopot i wymiana przekładni pomogła.
