I'm learning, I should just check your videos first when looking for this kind of tech help. I already had a free certificate from my domain/DNS host (not Amazon), but I couldn't figure out how to use it on my Lightsail WordPress site, I did this install instead. As usual, it was very easy to follow your video. Thanks Will, for this and all the other times you've helped me...

As of 2/26/23 still works! I was paying AWS $18 bucks a month for load balancer to get https, but this methods free and it seems faster than the balancer. Thanks!

When I saw this video, I thought its 3 year old so it must be obsolete. But it worked like a charm. I think Lightsail should include this video on their documentation. Thanks for the nice tutorial.

This has been really helpful - thank you! I tried multiple alternative methods to secure my site to HTTPS and none of them worked, and they were much longer! Really enjoying the videos so far. A request for a future tutorial would be a run through of what you recommend all new websites and set ups should include, and reference back to previous videos where appropriate... for example #1 how to automate backups (snapshots), #2 how to secure the website (this video), #3 important public policies, copyright, and T&Cs to write on the site, #4 Website google analytics set up etc...

@SpaceRex Instructions are sharp. FYI and every one, this instructions avoid the use of the AWS ligthsail load balancer that increase the any website start cost. I just tested on Goggle chrome, Explorer, Safari in iOs handheld devices and works as expected. Keep up the good videos!

So helpful! Worked like a charm! I followed your Host Website on Lightsail video and it worked like a charm. I'd like to set up multiple websites on the same instance ( to keep costs down). Any chance you could do a video on that (if you haven't already)? I tried the multisite instance... which was really cool... however, some of the free plugins that I use recognized this and wanted to charge me. So I assume I can set up subdomains within the same instance and just use DNS records to point to the correct folder. Yes?

How is it AWS provides 85 steps and this guy has it down to a few minutes? I had to check the servers on my host again but it worked. Thank you.

I have a few questions with this. First did it put crest a dns zone first in light rail before doing this and second did you purchase your domain through route 53

Any idea why the URL in the WordPress settings page is grayed out and not updateable? I have the SSL cert working but in the Wordpress URL settings it still says http however I can't change this to https since it's grayed out.

I followed and executed each step of this video. Is it still necessary to have an additional wordpress plugin like Really Simple SSL? Or is it redundant and this is already enough?

Could you please explain what do you mean by it won't work on a live website?

Do you not need to add a TXT record to the DNS host for verification? Seems AWS instructions have this step when using lets encrypt.

Although my domain name has fully propagated, Bitnami still says that the domain is not pointing to the IP address. It is a shame that AWS doesn't offer suppor for basic plans.

After setting up the SSL, it causes issues with creating a AWS Lightsail Distribution... Too many redirects. From what I read you have to revoke the BNCert issued certificate. Can you make a video on this?

The SSLcertificate stops working i get a cURL 60 error and htaccess.conf (/conf/htaccess.conf/) file is not writable. would you know how to correct this it happened on all my sites
