In this video we take a look at setting up monitors on the X32 or M32 line of consoles. We talk about Pre-Fader vs. Post Fader settings, panning within a stereo MixBus, and even setting up a basic reverb specific to your monitors.
** NOTE **
Please make sure you save your scene on the console BEFORE you update firmware. Your current settings per channel will be cleared. You can reload your scene after update, but make sure to save your scene before updating.

Here is a video that might cover a similar setup. This walks the viewer through sending audio to a DAW to be mixed for live stream. That mix is then sent back to the console and comes in on AUX In 1/2. This setup would allow you to track instruments into Pro Tools and then send some Mix from PT back into the X32 to be solo’d in the headphones or out the monitor output. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gdaKo9aAxNKYgac.htmlsi=lT1oD-UrkhfQvqSz

How would you go about adding effects like reverb to the house mix? (you mentioned in this video - that you would only want the reverb to go to the monitors - but I think I am wanting reverb in the house as well - but would want to control that independently from the monitors mix)

I don’t ha e a specific video about this yet, but it is the same process as setting up a monitor. The console has 4 preset FX racks and busses on Bus 13-16. Select the bus that relates to the FX rack you want, click Sends on Fader, raise the instrument you want going into that FX rack and you are set. Then go to the FX return on the left side of the console and raise the stereo return to the desired level.

Hi, having just ventured into the digital desk with an x32, this is extremely helpful. One quick question is what do they call the aux outs when rerouting a bus. Struggling to understand all the various terms on the routing section.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
People still interchange the terms AUX MixBUS, and BUS. Most people talk about what it is being used for and then might mention how they are mixing it. Example: I have BUS 4 and 5 setup as In-Ear Monitors for my vocals… they also might say I’m running an AUX Sub which is setup on BUS 12. It all depends on the setup. This console offers more flexibility in that you can build mixes (mains, monitors, stream, etc) and send them out XLR, USB or the physical AUX outs on the back of the console. 1) Do you have something specific you are trying to accomplish? 2) have you checked out my “getting started” video linked here? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8dohcSDm8DbeY0.html

Hi Thanks for all you’re great work! I have monitors set up prefader.. You indicated that the benefit of post fader is that the “drummer” csn use the app to turn up the volume of his drums in his monitor, but doesn’t that impact the FOH sound since his adjustments are increasing/decreasing volume at the fader level tap?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
A monitor setup on a MixBUS has two main settings (Pre or Post Fader). A Pre fader mix (ideal for IRM) will allow you to have independent control of the mix. Regardless of changes made for FOH, the monitor mix would not change. If you have a floor wedge your musicians will still want a Pre Fader mix so it never changes, but sometimes you need to run it in a Post Fader configuration (usually in a small venue) so that when you turn down a fader for FOH, it will follow this change in the monitor. This would be used to help manage stage volume being heard in the house. This video goes into more detail. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odiXbK-Q0rmRZH0.html

Thanks for the video. One question concerning hardware setup. We are using the x32 and two digital snakes along with it. What hardware is need in addition to what we currently have, in order to add in ear monitors?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
For In Ear Monitors (IEM) it is best to have the transmitters closet to stage or onstage with your digital snakes. Direct line of sight to the body pack will limit static and signal drops. Since you are going from a digital snake you only have XLR outputs as options, so that means XLR cables are needed. You will need to power your transmitter so you’ll need power, but that’s really it. Make sure your outputs are set to go back to whichever AES50 path you are using and you’ll be good to go.

Great info - except at 13:15 where you say you "can do some light compression in the monitor in case things get out of hand". Professional singers will immediately notice that there is compression on their monitor and will stop singing to avoid injury to their vocal chords. Amateur singers will change the way they are singing to try to compensate for the attack and release of the compressor, including trying to sing louder as the compression ratio goes up. They will leave with a hoarse voice, which is not a problem for amateurs, but it is a big deal for folks who make their living with their voice. And repeated straining against a compressor can/will cause vocal chord nodules to develop, which require surgery to remove. The other 99% of this video was outstanding and helped me (an old analog guy) tremendously!

Thanks for the input and great info from a vocalist perspective. As a drummer I tend to run a little compression on my IEM depending on the instrumentation. As much as we try to control guitarists they tens to have spots where their volume gets louder when there are people in the seats. I try to keep that controlled and save my ears throughout a night.

Thanks for this. At about the 11:00 mark you said that Post Fader was ideal for the Tap. I'm confused by that comment because that way the FOH mix will affect the Monitors. Or have I completely missed something?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
IEM should always be run as Pre-fader. Floor wedges can also be run as Pre-fader, but in smaller venues you will find that you go to turn down the piano while the pastor is speaking (for an example) and you have the fader all the way down, but your stage volume is still too loud. In this scenario I would run them as Post Fader so I have control over the house.

Thank you for the great video. Question. Using only my left output on my IEM transmitter. Would I need to plug in the right to the next mixbus to allow panning instruments left and right in the monitor mix?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
If you are looking for stereo IEM that you can do panning you will need to start by making a stereo BUS. You would take an odd numbered BUS and link it to the next even numbered BUS. Then you have the ability to send stereo signals to both sides of your IEM transmitter (yes, through a second cable). The board configuration will allow you to either take the panning used by FOH or your can override it in the sends area and customize the panning for this specific stereo BUS.

This is great info. I have a question for you. Is it possible to EQ a channel within a given IEM buss. example...I lead with an acoustic guitar but I don't like the way it sounds in my ear but the techs say it sounds great in the house. I really would like my D35 to sound like it was designed to. Your thoughts?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is bot a way to EQ the instrument (different) specific to its’ output location. What you can do is select the channel, click on the Home button and page over to the Sends tab. Here you can use the encoder knobs to select if the channel is being sent to the monitor PreEQ or Pre-Fader. You would probably want to go PreEQ to get a non-altered signal.

Thank you for this video!! Question- at around 16:20 in the video you say when applying effects to the monitor bus, to deselect the stereo bus so it doesn’t go to FOH. What if I’m already sending some reverb and delay through the FOH but want to send a portion of those same effects to the monitors (IEM)? Could I just leave the ‘stereo bus’ selected/turned on for the corresponding effects stereo returns (on the 3rd layer down) in order to have the effects in both the FOH and monitor bus?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are spot-on. Build your FOH mix first, then start building your monitors. You would treat the FX returns just like any other input and the more you turn it up in the MixBUS, the more you will get.

Thank you for this! We were running into an issue. Is there a way to turn the gain up on the whole mixbus?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
The gain for each channel should be set properly (I recommend between -9 and -12). Then if the mix is Pre Fader you can turn up the fader for the desired inputs when using Sends on Fader for the MixBUS. Once the mix is built you could use the compressor (in the channel strip of the MixBUS) to raise the volume even more using the make-up gain (bottom right knob on the screen once the compressor view button is pushed). In theory though the basic mix should be enough to get a quality signal and your headphone amp or IEM module would give the option of turning up the volume.

Thanks for the video! Question, how should you route a stereo signal from the keys channel to mono wedges? At a friend’s venue, the wedges always have a weird sound like there’s an issue with phasing. The house sounds great, just something is going on with the wedges
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
I typically just send both channels in and don't have any issues since everything will get summed to mono. It sounds like you are saying that when that happens there is some odd cancelling occurring. To troubleshoot, I would unlink these keys channels so they are two mono signals and then send only one. See if it sounds the same or different. If it is better, a work around is to unlink them permanently, pan them manually in the house and then use a DCA to control their volume so you get back to having one fader to control the volume of both channels.

Wow, that would be really complex to try and make a video like that. Each person hears different, each set of monitors are different and the instrument being played is different. I will say, I tend to use compression more as a limiter with a 10:1 ratio and remove just 1-2 dB. In terms of EQ I usually roll off the bottom around 50hZ since the actual monitors can’t accurately reproduce these frequencies. I also remove a little mud at 400 and maybe a little boost at 3k to add some vocal diction. Keep in mind I’m usually playing drums in a church worship context.

Thanks for reaching out. We find ourselves in a troubleshooting situation here. 1) I would start by connecting one of these speakers to the main output (since it is working) to make sure the physical monitors are working well. 2) I would pick one BUS, turn the fader to unity (0), confirm it is not muted, confirm there is no DCA connected to control it and confirm there is at least one input going into the BUS (using Sends on Fader) that you can use to test. 3) Plug headphones into the console, turn the volume up using the headphone knob and hit the solo button on this MixBUS. This will confirm there is a signal going into the MixBUS. 4) Go to Routing > Out and confirm this MixBUS is set as the source for the output you expect it to connect to on stage. You can also confirm your tap point here is set to "Post Fader". 5) Connect your cables properly and it should work. If something doesn't work, I'm happy to do a call with you. @AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
Yes, the MixBUS 13-16 can be used like normal MixBUS and bypass the FX racks. You need to do the following items... 1) If you need these to go out of the console you will go to Routing > Out and confirm that output 13-16 are set as the source for the desired outputs. Keep in mind you are probably using two outputs for Mains so you will really only have 14 other outputs to choose from. Obviously, your situation might be different than what I am assuming. 2) Go to the Effects button next to the screen and scroll over each FX rack 1-4. You want to change the source of FX 1 from MixBUS 13 to Insert. Repeat this for all FX 1-4 so they are de-coupled from the racks. 3) Now each are a standard mono MixBUS that you can use however you see fit.

Two options: 1) either take MixBus 1 & 2 and link them which gives you a stereo mix and then send those to your IEM device... OR 2) depending on the IEM device you have you can set it to receive a mono signal, but duplicate it to both ears this is a ‘bridged mono’ setup. This is actually how my church functions. We have two wireless units that have a bridged mono setup and our hardwired unit is also setup in a similar format.

The band I work with has been experiencing inear issues. I looked at our system and found that the sound guy is running an x-32 console and an x-32 core. He's routing the core thru the console and using an IPad to control the core for front of house and the console for running monitors. We'll get a good inear mix at sound check, but things always change in the inears. I'm guessing that he has the inear sends set to post fader. The band owns the system, and the sound tech is a hired hand. After I've done a little research and questioned him on a few things... It's apparent he doesn't really know the system. We don't have the x-32 core stage box, so I'm guessing that's why the x-32 console is required. Obviously, I'm not an audio engineer but have been checking out videos on the x-32 and its setup. Would like to get this problem resolved and do away with any redundancy in the system. At this point, it looks like I'll be learning the system and how to set it up. The guy we hired obviously bullshitted his way into the job. Thanks in advance for any help.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, depending on how everything is wired your console (with the preamps) should take first priority. You would set gain on this console and then send a signal across AES50 to the core where the sound guy can set digital trim as needed and mix his house mix. Your console would be the master and the core would be the slave. If it is reversed then he could be changing the gain and it would have a downstream effect on house mix, broadcast mix, recordings and monitors.

So we have our live stream as outputs 5/6 (bus 5/6). So if we want it to be the same mix as is in house then we would select postfader and if we wanted it to be completely customized for the stream we would select prefader and then do sends on fader with it selected to adjust all the levels right? Also, is there a way to listen on the monitor headphones to the specific volume inputs of that bus 5/6? So if we wanted to hear how a singer on input 4 is coming through to just the live stream bus can we do that? Thanks!

This is because you have the MixBUS setup as ‘PreFader’ instead of ‘PostFader’. PreFader is what you want for an In-Ear monitor mix so it does not change when you move faders for your House mix. If you have a wedge monitor or other open speaker that can be heard in your room then you probably want to run PostFader so that when you turn the fader all the way down in your House it will also turn down in your monitor.

That is frustrating. You need to adjust the Bus from Pre Fader to Post Fader for sending the inputs into the Bus. You do this by selecting the Bus and go to Home > Config and make the switch. Hey Dave I got a dumb question the way I have my drums set up is its running through the board and I'm listening out through my in ears out the main headphone jack on the x32 producer. I made an inear mix on a mix bus channel and ran my wireless inear system to that Also I tried my wired in ear system as well with the mix bus but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the headphone plug in the front of the board.my question is, is there any way to make a mixbus inear mix sound like what I'm hearing out the front headphone jack?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Keep in mind the headphone jack is a stereo feed of your main mix (unless you solo something and then that takes over). Your IEM is most likely a mono mix which will have much less width than your stereo house mix. I recommend linking two buses together to get a stereo mix. Then, you could set it to Pre-Fader and build your desired IEM mix. You have the ability to follow your LR panning or do custom panning for your IEM. Also, make sure to add some FX into your IEM to sweeten it up.

Gain should be set for each input and I look to set mine at -12dB on the input meter. The gain will impact all things downstream. Once this is set you will can find a monitor BUS, select it and then hit the “sends on fader” button in the middle of the console. This will shift and slow you to use the faders to adjust the level of each input going to your monitor BUS.

@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
For me I do send compressed and EQ'd signals to my IEM. They get a signal that is Pre-Fader and this tends to allow them to have a nice even monitor sound to work from. I have not received any complaints and I am frequently on stage as well for various instruments and it seems to work just fine. I would maybe make a change if I had 4 or 5 vocals (like a church I grew up in) that were singing/blending across each other. Then I might look at not sending the compression to give them a more "transparent" IEM. I also think in a setting like that I would not be compressing as hard as I am in my rock-band setting.

You can setup stereo monitors by selecting an odd numbered MixBus, hitting the home button by the screen and then pushing LINK. This will link with the next MixBUS and give you a stereo pair. When you build your mix you will have the ability to pan items specific to your monitor or just take the panning that is done in the house mix. This video has some various tips you might find helpful about this topic as well as building a custom mix on a MixBUS. It is focused more towards a live stream, but you can use the same concepts to build a very nice IEM mix. I would not send my people stereo IEM mixes. It’s very rare that people get stereo mixes and it will make tour life a lot easier. A mono mix can be sent to both ears and use a reverb on the console to build space in their heads. An XLR output is a mono output only. You can route a MixBUS signal to the AUX outs by going to routing>Aux Out and selecting the AUX out you want to set, then select the MixBUS on the right and your signal will be sent to the desired AUX output. If you need further help for a faster solution I do handle consulting. You can fill out the contact card on my website to get that started.

Does it make much difference on the "inputs" with respect to Post and Pre-fader? I have an input routed through input channel 15 from my stage that have a computer connected to it for a click track. No backing tracks, just pure click track. I can get that click track to work independently of my main mix, but I have no independent control for the individual busses. Bus 7 and 8 are used for my Live Stream. I can hear the click track in my in ears, but it also runs through my Live Stream bus, and no muting or volume control for bus 7 or 8 stops that click.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
The ‘click’ input should be set with the fader at unity (0). The Stereo LR should be deselected to not go into the house. Then, you should be able to select the bus for stream, hit the ‘Sends on Fader’ and put the fader all the way down or mute which should keep the signal out of your stream mix. Similarly, you can select monitor mixes and add it appropriately. Prefader and PostFader should still act similar in that you can turn down (or mute) the input in each MixBUS.

I keep seeing you talk about post fader. What about pre /post eq? On old school boards I always ran pre fad pre eq, and never had a monitor problem. On my Allen and Heath mix wizard I actually had to go into the board guts and move a jumper to get pre eq. Solved all my fb problems. I’m working a local concert club on some one else’s system, and he insist that pre fade post eq is ok. We did a 10 band benefit yesterday and the feedback was out of control. On M32 when you go to channel sends tab you can change to pre eq on each bus mix. But it also has option for pre fader. Does that change your pre fader setting that you’ve set up in the other setup options? I watched the house guy that owns the gear chase fb like a wild man going through every channel and notching every eq trying to control fb. I told him he needs to go pre eq and go to 31 band and notch out. He has 31 band inserted onto each bus send, but never uses. We had a 160 hum when band stopped, and was notching every channel to try and stop it. I was monitoring everything on my iPad. I reached over and notched 160 on 31 band and all is well. But he thought he fixed it. Lol maybe do a video on pre post eqi ng I see a lot of guys out there that run post and have lots of problems, but don’t want to listen to me. Sound guys…hmpf

This is great advice and certainly something that most people are not aware of the differences that this tap point can do in the scheme of things. In case you are looking for it, the tap point is in Routing > Outs where you designate which mix goes out a specific output and then you can choose the tap point at that time as well. I'll add it to my list for a future video.

Yes, the X32 has various tap points you can choose from for your outputs or the specific BUS. Select a BUS, go to Home > Config and on the left you can select the tap point for all inputs going into this BUS. Notice Pre EQ comes before Pre Fader therefore it will not be impacted by the fader level. Then, you can select the tap point for the BUS itself (before it actually leaves the console). This is set in Routing > Out where you can select the similar settings, but at the BUS level. Use the encoder knobs under the screen to make these selections and push the encoder to lock it in.

I'm not sure I understand the question exactly. When using a MixBUS for monitors you will be able to select between pre-fader or post-fader which (for in ear monitors) you want a pre-fader mix. In terms of the tap (preEQ, preEQ+m, etc) this determines weather you are feeding your monitor with a raw signal from stage or if they are getting the EQ'd signal that the sound tech is applying back into their monitor. EXAMPLE: a guitarist as a super lush tone from their amp into the sound board. The sound tech removes a hand full of frequencies with EQ to make it fit the mix and PA better. Do you send the EQ'd signal back to the guitarist or the raw, non-EQ'd signal back? I hope this helps.

I’ve noticed that some of my mix buses feeding my monitors say “custom” on the insert point and some say “pre-fader”. How do I see what the “custom” configuration is?
@AndrewPineiderMusic
@AndrewPineiderMusic 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the custom configuration is from if you have certain channels going to that monitor set to pre-fader and certain channels set to post fader. Therefore making it, "custom", otherwise if it's all pre-fader or all post-fader it would display those. I'm not at the console currently but if you select a channel and then scroll over to the sends tab it will display the busses. Underneath the busses it shows if that channel is sending it's information post or pre fader to the bus. So if it's custom some of the channels will be either or but not the same. So I think you'd need to just scroll through the channels when you're on the sends tab in home and see which ones are either or. Hope this helps

This is an interesting question. Here are the steps I would take to begin my troubleshooting process. 1) Take some pre-recorded music (iTunes, Spotify, etc) and send it into the console. Make sure your input level is between -12 and -9 on the input fader. 2) Turn this up in your main mix and begin turning the master fader up to the desired level in the room. Evaluate if you hear the same "limiting" happening. 3) There is an onboard limiter and a channel compressor for the main outs and you want to confirm that these are turned off. Above the master fader, push the "select" button and then go to Home > Dynamics. Make sure the compressor is not activated by looking at the bottom left knob of the screen and make sure the words are grey and not orange. This confirms the compressor is not activated. Next click the "effects" button to the right of the screen and if there is a plugin active on the Main mix it will come up. If there is, then you can push the knobs below the screen so that INS is not orange therefore being deactivated. Once you have confirmed that no issues are happening on the pre-recorded music, then you can move to the normal inputs. Set proper gain structure (between -12 and -9 on the input meter), build your mix and then begin bringing up the volume. If you still run into issues, check after the console and see if there is a DSP (digital signal processor) or other settings on your amps or speakers that might be causing some limiting.

There are a few keys things to understand based on the words you used in your question… (1) the Gain impacts everything downstream. You want to set the gain and leave it. I usually recommend setting it between -9 and -12 on the inout meter for each channel. The faders would be used to adjust the mix volume and bring (in your example) a vocal up or down during the event. (2) if your Monitor BUS is set to Pre-Fader (in Routing > Outs) it will not change based on the house mix fader moves discussed in step 1. If you have it set as Post Fader than you will have the monitor mix change according to fader changes done by the sound tech for your house mix.

Turn up the fader and make sure you hear it in your Front of House (FOH) mix. 2) Assuming step one works then you will want to look more into the routing and setup of where you are trying to send the signal. 3) If you are sending to a MixBUS, check your bus settings to see if it is pre-fader or Post fader. This information will determine how you need to set your faders to get signal to properly flow.

I’m not exactly clear on your question based on the video it is posted on. Are you trying to add additional speakers to your main mix as fill speakers and have their volume change with the main fader?

Can I flip the monitor outputs on the aes50 in other words I have the x32 producer so that's only 16 channels and I'm changing the settings so that I can mic the drums 25-32 but I only have 8 outputs in the console so can I change the out put number?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish here. You have 16 inputs, plus you have the 6 AUX inputs on the back of the console that are all available to use. Those are the physical inputs available. The outputs are set as outputs and are not able to be "flipped" and turned into inputs. There might be a better way to configure your inputs to make room for your drums, but I would need more information to assist.

@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
By default the MixBUS 1-12 are set to go out the physical XLR outputs on the back of the console (smaller platforms it is 1-6). You can connect an XLR to the console, if you have a digital snake like the S16 or S32 the outputs are usually mirrored so you could connect there if needed as well. If you need to use the AUX out on the back of the board you will go to Routing > AUX and locate the desired AUX Output and then select the desired MixBUS source. Then just connect your 1/4" cable from the board to your transmitter and you are god to go.

Anyone else notice the Pre-Post Fader MixBus Config is not available in the X32-Edit Software? I can only find it on the console but not in the software while editing offline to prepare for events beforehand.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
The X32 edit software is a little different, but the features are still there... hidden, kind of. Go to Routing > Out 1-16 and when you setup an output you can change the color based on the legend below the matrix. For Windows, right-click or for MAC option-click and you will get a drop down menu to select the type of output you desire. As always, I recommend double checking these setting a once you get on the physical console, but I’m pretty sure this is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply, I tried that already and that seems to affect the “Outs” itself... so for that switch I need to set to “post-fader” if I want to control the overall bus volume by the mixbus fader. The part where you select the mixbus channel and go to config, sets the behaviour of the mixbus sends, in this case I want it to be “pre-fader”, but I couldn’t find it on the x32-edit software while working disconnected from the mixer.

@@AllamHouse I found the solution for using the x32-Edit. I'll describe this for the benefit of those who also uses the software for editing. When using the x32-Edit software (ie. Not on the console itself), in order to set the Mix Bus to "Pre-Fader", we have to: 1) select an individual input channel (e.g. CH1 - Vox) 2) click the "Sends" tab on top, 3) click the Globe-like button on the left side of the panel (beside the first sends fader). This will make changes to affect all input channels. 4) Then click the bullets above your desired mix bus to change it to pre-fader, post fader, etc. The operation above is the same as selecting the Mix Bus on the console to change the pre/post-fade parameters in the Config tab.

The X32 is already limited on the number of effects you can set up, so setting up a dedicated monitor reverb only gets you one less option. You can simply select ‘sends on faders’ for the monitor bus in question and bring up the stereo returns for any of the house effects you have instantiated. Why would you dedicate a reverb?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 7 ай бұрын
While it is limited, I find I really only need a reverb and a delay to get a mix in a really good spot. Keep in mind there are still the four other racks of insert FX that I am using with de-easers and other compressors. You are also correct in that you can share a verb (or other FX) with both FOH and monitor mix. I find that mentioning it can open peoples minds to the fact that they can designate one verb for their monitors to make their musicians happy and then use the others for their mixes. The great thing is that there is no right or wrong way to do a lot of this stuff so I just get to provide options and each person can then experiment with what works best for them. Thanks for the comment and discussion.

With all due respect … just because you can set it up that way, does not mean you should. Your video does not suggest this as an option; rather, it lays it out as a how to. As a means to provide the uninitiated with information on best practices, it is not the right way to set up the X32 for a FOH/Mon mix. Why would you need another reverb when you have one sitting there, with the push of a button? Why wouldn’t you setup one of the myriad of available FX plugins instead, to help the mix along? I’m sorry, but I guarantee you there are viewers out there who now believe that the only way to send a verb to a monitor mix is via a dedicated FX, and that is simply not the case. You are doing your viewers a disservice with this kind of information.

@AllamHouse

Select the channel for click, push the ‘Stereo Bus’ button next to the screen so it is no longer orange. This will allow the i out to be used throughout the console, but not go to the house. I talk about it in this video you commented on at the 16:20 mark. I’m discussing it with FX returns, but the same applies to click track as well.

So I am completely new to all of this and this video was very helpful. Unfortunately, sometime before I was recruited to help with our school sound system, the monitors got unplugged and I have no idea where to plug them in. I've tried the things in this video, but every time I move the main volume up and down, the monitors react the same. They are also not independently controlled. I'm not even sure I plugged them into the proper spot. We use a x32 board on wheels from the back of the cafeteria. It connects to the wall through an ethernet cable. I found where it connects to the rack on the stage. Currently the monitors are plugged into output 1. Hopefully this makes some kind of sense to you, but any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Here are the steps I would take to troubleshoot… 1) identify what you are mixing the monitor on… ideally this would be a MixBUS, but if it’s a matrix you’ll have issues. 2) Assuming it’s a MixBUS, go to Routing > Out and scroll through the left side to see where your MixBUS is routed to. Ideally, the Out 1 is sourced by MixBUS1, Out 2 with MixBUS2, etc. 3) Next go to Routing > XLR and make sure your MixBUS is set to go out the same XLR output. Usually this is just set to a one to one mapping of Out 1-XLR1, etc. 4) Once you located the output your MixBUS is routed to, plug the XLR cable into that output on the back of the console. I hope this helps you out. I’m assuming you are just a volunteer, but I do offer consultations if you need help faster.

Hi, can send eq of each channel to monitor?
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
There are different tap points that you can set for your instruments when they go into a MixBUS (usually used for monitors). You can choose from a raw signal, pre EQ, post EQ, etc. Select the channel, arrow to the right to get to the Sends tab, adjust accordingly.

How can you route mixbuses to returns from the 16returns on the s32.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand your question fully, but I think you are looking to build monitor mixes on some MixBUSes and then send them to your stage through a S32 stage box. If this is correct, you need to do these few things: 1) Go to Routing > OUT and confirm what output each MixBUS is mapped to as a source. Usually this is a 1 to 1 mapping so MixBUS 1 is the source for OUT 1, MixBUS 2 is the source for OUT 2, etc. 2) Go to Routing > AES50a and make sure your 1-16 are set to Out 1-8 and Out 9-16. This will send a copy of the outputs from the console up to the stage box. Make sure you set the Pre/Post fader tap point correctly in the outs setting according to your needs. This video here discusses the differences. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z61-oLGIyby7e5s.html

Can i eq each chanel and send to monitor withnot touching main eq of each channel
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately you do not get separate EQ for main vs Buses. You do have the ability to change the tap point where the signal is picked up to go to your BUS. Select the desired channel, go to Home > Sends and use the encoders to select the BUS and then the tap point. This can allow you to have (example) an electric guitarist get their full signal by tapping pre-EQ for their monitor on a BUS, and then the EQ is engaged for the mains.

Grab the M32-Q app from your app store. This will allow the musician to control their monitor mix remotely on the X32 or M32 console. They will need to be connected to a wireless router and the console needs to be connected to the router as well for this to work.

In the firmware version 4.0 and newer you do have custom routing at the individual channel and output level. You would use the Routing > User Out to set this up and refine where you send your outputs. It is not the exact same as a nicer A&H board, but it still covers the same need.
