Learn and see first hand from a home dialysis patient how to use and setup the NxStage System One Cycler, using bagged dialysate and the Express Fluid Warmer, in this full start to finish setup tutorial. As a home dialysis patient myself, I have received full training from my dialysis team on how to set the machine up. I do always recommend that you follow the procedures given to you by your team during training, as this may vary from unit to unit. The purpose of this video was to help those that also do home dialysis and those that may soon be starting home treatment. My hope is that by documenting my routine of setting the machine, it may inspire others to be believe that they can also conquer what at first seems like a lot to take on. It is definitely still possible to live the life that you want to live and thrive whilst on home dialysis. Good luck to all my fellow warriors out there and thank you to everyone for watching. Stay safe and keep positive!

I’m a solo home hemodialysis patient and this is my routine 4 days a week, on the exact same machine. Thank you for posting your video. It’s so nice to see other people going through the same thing 😊👍

Thank you so much for creating this video; I do HHD for my husband. We currently use a Quanta machine (research project), which cannot be used for travel. I am now training to use this machine for our travel in June, so this will be so helpful to have as a refresher each time I set up the machine.

First: Thank YOU for putting this video together. Next: Consider switching to the Tablo hemodialysis machine. It’s a new disruptive tech machine that has been shown to greatly improve patient comfort and overall satisfaction. Looking through your video, I don’t think the vast majority of people are able to or are willing to do the home dialysis due the complexity of the set-up and the difficulty in using the machine you are now using.

My husband has just started dialysis and I am his partner in the project. This general process--your materials are somewhat different from ours--was really helpful to see. I appreciate the effort you put into this and it is yet another way to learn the procedure.

How kind of you to make such a meticulous step by step video - I haven't begun any of this. Weighing my options so I will be informed when the time comes. Right now I'm at 27% function. I don't know if that means I have one year or five before I have to face this stage of the process. Hospitals don't bother me, surgery doesn't bother me, ambulance rides don't bother me - THIS? I'm scared S****LESS! I THINK I have too much anxiety to do it myself and I don't like the fact I will see my own blood and the waste products. I THINK right now I will opt for a Nocternal In-Patient Dialysis Center Solution Until I understand the entire process and get a grip on knowing more about what is going on. ONE PART I WANT TO SEE IS THE ACTUAL HOOKING UP TO THE BODY. Have An Idea of what that may look like but Havent seen an example yet. SELF INFLICTED AND STRESSED OUT RESEARCH PROJECT. GeeeeZZZzzeeeeeZE. AGAIN< THIS WAS SO KIND OF YOU - THANK YOU!

I’ve been on dialysis for two weeks. Today was day two training on “my” machine. Yesterday it was already set up when I got there. Today I watched your great video before I went. You gave me so much more insight on what to expect. I watched it again with my wife tonight. She said you did such a wonderful job and your so easy to listen to. Thank you so much for taking the time to help out newbies. Also is there a reason you didn’t go with a fistula for access? I’ve heard it’s a lot less risk of infection. Or is that not a normal thing on the other side of the pond lol. Thanks again Luke!

Thank you for this video! So helpful to understand what's going on, better than a lot of resources I can find online. I'm curious what the volume is of the 6 distillate bags you are using? I've heard lots of different numbers about approximately how much fluid (liters) is needed for one session of treatment. Thanks!
@lukegarnes3689
@lukegarnes3689 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Grace , thanks for your comment and I’m really glad the video was helpful for you. My fluid volume is 30 litres but I think it varies from patient to patient. My treatment time is 3- normally 3.5 hours. I can’t imagine it goes much less than 30 litres as I was still using that volume when I was doing 2.5 hour treatments. Thanks again 😊

Now that the pure flow filtration system is in place, do you still use all those bags? I assumed it was mainly when traveling with that machine. What about that warmer that sits on top? Does the pure flow filtration replace the warmer?
