I'm a new subscriber, having just recently discovered your channel, and have been catching up on your previous videos. I recently just made a fleece blanket and pretty much did it just as you have shown. With a couple of differences: I used a rotary cutter and large (24" X 6") quilting ruler to cut the long, straight edges and to "square up" the corners. The rotary cutter makes such smooth, straight cuts. The second thing I did was to miter the corners before I sewed the edges. I've been enjoying your videos so much and appreciate your tips!

Thank you. Thumbs up and subscribed. You explained and showed so clearly. I think I would get too hot with the two-sided tie blankets. I would much rather make a couple of these. The non-white selvedge goes up to where you see little holes. Though if left on for this fleece blanket it would probably not make a difference as it won't gray and not noticeable if folded over. I look forward to watching your other videos.

Actually the best way to determine the wrong side of fleece is pull lightly on the cut side of the fabric. It will always curl to the wrong side.

This was a very helpful video for sewing a blanket. I particularly loved the way the corners were turned in. I am not new to sewing, but I am new to sewing blankets. It gave me the confidence to take the fleece out of my sewing stash that I purchased 2 years ago and make a blanket with it. I would like to add binding to my blanket. It sounds simple but I would like to see it done. Do you have a video covering adding binding for beginners?
@SewSewLounge
@SewSewLounge 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Norm. So glad you enjoyed my video and found it helpful. I liked the turned in corners too. They make it look more finished. This is my only blanket video, but I’m sure there are plenty out there that will show you how to attach a binding. Good luck!
@carolg.6838
@carolg.6838 Жыл бұрын
It wouldn't need a binding but I bet you could use fold over elastic. Years ago there was binding of fleece fabric. Why not cut the binding from fleece. I think knits curl to the wrong side so maybe a little stretch to enclose the edge while you sew? Maybe it would wirk the way quilters make binding and miter the corners as their videos show Then fold it to the front and machine stitch it very close to the folded edge of the binding.

For on a plane would it be better sewing a kids blanket and have a backing fleece ???
@SewSewLounge
@SewSewLounge Жыл бұрын
The size just depends on the length of fabric you want plus the usual with which tends to be 55/60 inches. I wouldn’t see two pieces of fleece together because that’s a lot of thickness and they are going to run against each other. Maybe use a different type of fabric, like flannel or brushed cotton for the backing.

How do you keep sides from stretching?
@SewSewLounge
@SewSewLounge Жыл бұрын
I just gently hold it to keep everything lined up and I let the fabric feed through the machine without pulling on it.

Is that possible to do the corner like a quilt? The side: you stop to sew before the end and fold the corner and continue to sew the end of side and the top in one shot.

I don’t quilt so I can’t speak from experience. But I don’t see why that wouldn’t work.

Mary, have you tried rolling your needle into the fabric before you start stitching and starting a little bit in from the edge of the fabric? That might help. Thanks for watching 😊 I'm glad you're enjoying my channel.

I want to do two different fleece patterns back to back, do I still have to fold the edges?
@SewSewLounge
@SewSewLounge Жыл бұрын
No you don’t. You can just cut the two pieces the same size, match them wrong sides together and sew around the edges. Don’t forget to leave an opening to flip the blanket to the right side. Then you can topstitch along the edge to give it a nice sturdy finish.

I have never sewed anything in my life, and I am trying to make 22inx23in cage liners for cat cages at an animal shelter. I bought fleece and was thinking of putting something in between the two layers of fleece to give it some weight. If anyone sees this and has some suggestions on what I should put in them I'd appreciate it!

You can use 100% cotton batting that is for quilts. It will add some thickness but still be manageable to sew. Warm and Snuggly is a good brand and comes in a variety of sizes. Walmart has the best prices for it. Joanns is almost double. If you need more info just let me know ☺️
@lynnann5643

@Sew Sew Lounge Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment! I wish I had seen this before I went to Joann's lol. I fortunately bumped into two quilters while I was there, I told them what I was trying to make, and they showed me the batting stuff. The stuff I chose was on sale for 111.99 for a big. I'd have to look and see which one I got, but it's not 100% cotton. I was worried about shrinkage. I have 33 cages at the shelter, and I want to make 70 liners, so we have extra for when they need to be washed. Im going to look for it at Walmart and might return it if I find it cheaper. Thank you for that tip.
@SewSewLounge

@@lynnann5643 you are welcome! I wouldn’t buy fabric at wal-mart since it’s not the best quality, but it’s the best place to buy batting. Good luck making all of those blankets! I have a bunch of fleece that I’ve been planing to make dog and cat blankets with and donate to the charity where I got Clementine.

@@SewSewLoungeyeah I am thinking of that I tried but my order was canceled I’ll figure something out though. Also is there a certain pair of scissors you will prefer to use to cut the fabric? I couldn’t get my cuts straight so it wasn’t even throughout the seams
@SewSewLounge
@SewSewLounge 5 ай бұрын
@@tristanbowen2691 I prefer Gingher dressmaker shears for scissors. However when I cut patterns I use a rotary cutter and cutting mat. It’s easier to keep the fabric flat when cutting using a rotary cutter; that might help you cut straighter.
