How to Sew a Zipped Pouch with Pocket by Debbie Shore

This useful little bag is perfect for make-up or haberdashery, and has a pocket with flap on the front. A quick make which makes it ideal for selling!
Materials:
2 pieces of outer and two lining fabrics each measuring 11" x 8" [28cm x 23cm]
one outer and one lining for the pocket each measuring 11" x 6" [28cm x 15cm]
one outer and one lining for the flap each measuring 8" x 4" [20cm x 10cm]
press fastening [popper]
As my fabric is quite fine I used fusible fleece[H630] on the wrong sides of the outer bag pieces, and interfacing [G700] on the outer pocket pieces.
My fabric is LadymcElroy retro Blooms Viscose, the lining is purple cotton.

Oh Deb.....I want you to know that you encouraged me to sew without a zipper foot and without pins when putting in a zip.....I love it. Starting on my second bag. This time I cut out the boxed corners, only because it's easier for me to line up and make it perfect 😊

What measurement did you use for the corners cut out? I did 1-1/2 and I ruined it. The pocket got cut and sewn in terrible! I found I was not lining up properly without cutting so decided to cut. I am so upset I apparently should not have used 1-1/2.😭

I started cutting the fabric today and decided to use the print side for the lining and this marbled blue for the outside. we will see how it looks. I will make lots more as gits 🥰

Fabulous video. I’m using patterned lining. Could you clarify please which side of lining piece gets attached to zip on front (pocket side) of bag, right or wrong side? Thank you. :)

Hi Debbie, I made this lovely bag today in the beautiful V&A fabric but ended up with a rounded bottom, I can't work out why. i watched your live stream when you ended up with a round bottom too lol but I still can't work out why. Please advise before I make another one 😮‍💨

Make sure the pocket is on the front of the bag when you make the base square, not pushed towards the back…

Can you give the measurements please. 11 ins x 8 ins doesn’t seem to fit with what you are making. Thank you. P.s. I’m a beginner so I’m doing something wrong

Yes it does. You are cutting 2 pieces of lining and 2 pieces of outer fabric, each 11 inches wide and 8 inches long. Then the pocket is one outer and one lining each 11 inches wide and 6 inches long. Finally, the flap of the pocket is cut one outer and one lining using 8 inches wide by 4 inches long for each. I hope this helps. Blessings.

It is a lovely how to make basic bag any size . Just decide on a size and go for it. You can leave the front pocket off to simply even more. Happy sewing .
